I have never seen a secondary at any level that bad in my entire life. This is the 3rd week in a row. If our secondary is only bad we are 4-0 but we are way beyond that.
Sad thing is some of those guys are 3 and 4 year players.
Changes have to be made.

Does former Steelers CB Antwon Blake have any eligibility left?

Ryan Lewis might be the worse Pitt legend (only say legend because of INT to save PSU game of course) to ever suit up.

Kid is truly hopeless out there. Maddox is much better but still pretty terrible. Webb (a kid I thought very highly of) is probably the worst of the bunch. Whitehead is a player but when he lines up with suck suckier and suckiest, even he looks bad at times.

Sad sad performance by the back end today. But I'm sure HCPD will reiterate that Maddox is still the team's best corner and will get better.

On the bright side, at least we should be able to hold GT under 400 yards passing in 2 weeks.

OK, I got all my negativity out. Time to get on with life.

I don't know how much longer Narduzzi can cover for them

Funny thing is this has been posted on this board every season since Walt's tenure.

He doesn't have to. Back in the spring he should have accessed his personnel and adjusted his defensive play calling to the talent at hand. Leaving Lewis alone on 3rd and goal w/ no help - that was beyond stupid. And this guy seems to have NO interest in changing. Guess what? Watch for other teams to totally embarrass his defense this year and his reputation as a defensive genius will be over.

Beyond pathetic

I blame the hair.... Pitts, Lewis, Maddox all possessed 4-5 lbs of excess wait under their helmets.

Cut the dreads and they easily gain a step or two thus making them almost mediocre instead of terrible.

He's too stubborn. He just doesn't have the personnel to do what he wants to do and he won't give in.
This is correct. We have had lousy secondaries for years, but none of them have been this utterly hapless against the pass. We have the same MAC-quality DBs and depth as we always have, the difference is this coach insists on putting them on an island against real D1 athletes, with a free safety behind them who is just as inept as a cover man, and with little help from a talented strong safety who essentially plays as a 4th LB.

Well I think our opponents have it figured out. Forget the run. Just protect the QB and throw downfield on us all day. We can't stop it.

A more consistent pass rush would solve some of the problems. I know we've had decent sack numbers, but you're going to accumulate some sacks when the other team is throwing all the time.

No question. The sack numbers are deceiving as this game proved. We couldn't get pressure on Trubisky when we needed it most despite having the blitz on several plays. When you can't get off the field on 3rd and 18 multiple timea you know you're not getting good pressure on the passer.

Yeah if your secondary is as bad as ours you either have to put a lot of pressure on the QB or tackle extremely well.

Unfortunately we seem to be unable to do either.

Carolina has a potent offense and no front seven, but a good secondary. So, while Pitt gets passed on all day, UNC gets run on all day. Both teams are so close to being very good, each with a huge defensive weakness that can't be fixed because they lack the personnel. I propose a merger. Pittlina or Heelburg would win the title! We learned against Clemson and Baylor last year we need better Jimmies and Joes. Pitt played a great game, and dominated in everything but the score. Good luck the rest of the season. I prefer your style of play, and envy it.
