Wow TJ McConnell

Ski denies everything. I know basketball and watched TJ McConnell play so I knew he was Big East material. No one else did. That was an early big W for me. I would say be was better than Tray Woodall and people would disagree with me. Ski's retort will be: "pull up a thread from 10 years ago as proof."

Are we talking about Dixon not recruiting him out of high school? Because I have a difficult time holding it against him if he didn't make a go at the 348th rated player in the nation. Lots of other teams also missed that boat. Or did he have a chance to land him before he went to Arizona and opt to pass? That's a little less palatable, but we were still a damn solid program at the time; can't bat .1000.

Dixon sucked his last few years here, though. Program was trending downward fast, and his recruiting was Stallings-esque. Anybody who says we should have kept playing his game is wrong. We just should have made a better hire to replace him with.

Dixon did want him to transfer to Pitt from Duquesne but the Dukes blocked it.

Well then I really can't be upset about not going at him out of high school. It'd be like complaining that we didn't take some local dude in football who ended up at Montana State. People "knew" Zane Dudek was going to be a stud, too. Most of them aren't, though. But I guess hindsight is 20/20 50/50.

He was a low major recruit out of HS. The college basketball world knew it but somehow you were different…

My point was in reference to the Dixon comment.

And the fact that you can't find one post from THIS YEAR to support your blatant lies about Miller says more about you than it does about me. But go on. Keep being dishonest.

How'd your boy Hafley do this year?

That is true and his father made him honor his commitment !!!!!!
Is this actually what happened? If that's the case, then for all we know maybe Dixon did at least try and talk with him during his Junior or Senior year and he said "don't bother calling me, I'm not interested, I'm going to Duquesne and there is no convincing me differently."

I think there was a handshake agreement that Pitt didn't try to poach Duquesne commits. I could be wrong, but I heard that was true.

TJ acted like a world class dick when he played in high school and similarly at Duquesne. The best move for him was to move out west and get away from his dad, (his dad was the same way on the sidelines coaching). And Miller did a great job with him. He was able to get his emotions under control for the most part. I hated watching him play in high school and at Duquesne but my opinion changed once he went out west and also like watching him play in the NBA and he will make a great coach someday.

He was totally this same way when I watched him play over the summer at Greentree. I was never rooting for him because of it, but there's no denying how good of a player he turned himself into.

I was at one of the games when he flipped off a couple kids from the zoo who made a comment when he made a bad pass during the first half. Then towards the end of the game he came over to them and said, "I played pretty well in the second half, didn't I". I will never forget that. It was a friggin summer league game and he let the crowd get to him!

TJ was another example of bad luck for Dixon. Danny Green, Harden, and shady Frank Haith buying Durant Scott.

Birch, who I wish never left.

Also, Iowa State paying for DeAndre Kane and McConnell hitting a late growth spurt. That good point guard who switched from Pitt to Vanderbilt immediately after the father spoke to Jamie was 100 percent his fault though.

And wasn't he like a sophomore in high school when he committed to Duquense?
Yep. And think if I recall correctly in the newspaper article about him committing to Duquesne he was like 5’11”/150 lbs at that time.

There was a family connection with the Dukes through Susie.

Not true as usual. There were many people on this board(including me) that thought he should be recruited by Pitt.

Who is the PG that switched from Pitt to Vandy?

Haha. This post seems so quaint compared to the modern day chaos of the transfer portal. My oh my how times have changed since 2012.

I remember around that same time, a player (not a starter) from St. Joseph's grad transferred to UAB to pursue a program that St. Joseph's legitimately different offer. Now, did he really transfer for athletic reasons? Probably but UAB had the program, St. Joe's didnt but Martelli said his transfer was for athletic reasons so he didn't get to play his final year of college basketball

Damon wilson anothe jamie guard who was more highly regarded by jamie than mcconnell

blocked it ? Seriously do you minions believe this ?
McConnell, Kithcart, Wilson...WTF do you still care about any of this? It was over a decade ago.

Yes
Because his dad acknowledged it
"We just decided that those are two schools we would not pursue, just because of local rivalries," Tim McConnell said. "We don't think it would be a good idea to leave, and come back and play Duquesne on a yearly basis. We will look into some schools, but we will not look into Pitt or Robert Morris”
