This is a really odd story. There are only 2 Pittsburgh Public Schools with boys soccer teams, Allderdice and Obama Academy. So, obviously, the City League doesn't have a soccer league. Those 2 teams play in the WPIAL which seems to make sense. But as the playoffs are set to begin, they were just informed that they are not eligible for the playoffs because they arent really in the WPIAL. They were told their section games would be changed to exhibition games so it sounds more like what they had with the WPIAL was just a scheduling agreement and not boys soccer membership. But NO ONE TOLD THEM THIS UNTIL THE SEASON IS OVER!

What types of fools run the WPIAL? The incompetence is astonishing.

The Trib, as per their standings, seems to believe that Allderdice is in Class 3A, Section 3 and Obama Academy - which seemingly wouldn't have qualified for the playoffs anyway - is in Class 3A, Section 1. Weird that it couldn't just be that simple. Obviously they didn't just completely make that up and that information came from someplace.

They never informed them that they werent actually in those sections and it was just a scheduling agreement. UEFA actually does this in qualifying. If a UEFA team is hosting the World Cup or the Euros, they'll put that team in a qualifying group so they have someone to play but the games dont count for either team. They are friendlies or exhibitions if you prefer. The difference is UEFA actually informs the teams of this. Somehow, WPIAL is actually worse than FIFA/UEFA and that aint easy.

Obama sports is actually 3 schools
Obama , sci-tech(Oakland ), and U-prep (hill district )
So they compete as USO.
Just fyi

Read the article. It explains the issue and that this wasn't actually on the WPIAL.

Its a PIAA rule. I get that. But the WPIAL should not have placed them in a section and instead informed them that they will be playing exhibition games. The WPIAL didnt know the rule. Let's just be honest. Everyone was under the assumption that their section games count for both teams and they would have the right to earn a spot to the WPIAL playoffs.

Neither did the city league or they would have understood they can't be in the WPIAL playoffs.

Someone's kid was probably going to miss the playoffs if a city league team that was better earned the spot.
probably. Or thought no way they’d be good enough. Most if not all would assume eligible when they’re making their crayon crossword puzzle schedules.
