Will Pitt ever land a WPIAL recruit over the Pedos again?

I think we'll see PSU dropping off now that the only thing that matters is sheer dollars with recruiting. And I take no pleasure in saying that. There will soon be new meaning to the term "the 1%". Because only 1% of college football teams will really matter unless they get a fix on this thing.
Their football program isn't shabby at all but they are really a much better Olympic sports school it terms of proportional financial support.

I wonder if their wrestling program comes back to earth now that NIL is a tool that other schools can use. Not that I think that they were buying wrestlers, I have no idea, but clearly that coach of theirs knows what he is doing and is probably a dynamic recruiter, but Andrew Jackson is also a significant player in the recruiting world.

The only two programs that can and are exceeding their NIL are Iowa and Okie State. Iowa has been spending a lot of money with limited results so far.

Sanderson is a pretty big difference maker. Guys that have Olympic asperations want to be in his room. The Olympics at PSU that do the best all are well funded with donations and have a very solid fan base. It's scary what their volleyball program could become again. Same with hockey and the money getting thrown at it.

Most non revenue sports are carried by a whale or two that either played or just really love the sport. If you can find one or cultivate one, a program can find a ton of success.

I’m not going to say a salary cap won’t stand up constitutionally but why can’t they follow NFL or NHL Rules for a salary cap. I’m sure congress will give them an exemption just like the NFL. I know it makes too much sense for college athletic directors and conference presidents. It’s all about the MONEY and let’s be honest the AD’s and conference presidents don’t give a flying F about the athletes.
Because.....the NFL and NHL have a collective bargaining agreement.

OSU just dropped over $20M on their football roster. Them thinking they are behind in NIL would be like a 102-pound model looking in the mirror and seeing Rosie O'Donnell.

As for PSU, I don't think they'd be able to compete with some of those big-time southern programs in the years when they are firing on all cylinders. But they're at least within striking distance - to a point where you could say the right QB or something can put them over the top.
The only real difference between OSU and the Peds is that the OSU always has a solid QB and at least two of the very best receivers in the country. The Peds struggle to get a good QB even though they are highly rated like Allar, and they have been recruiting Pitt level receivers lately. If they could get a legit QB and some top notch receivers, they might actually win something. I'm hoping they keep giving those ships to WPIAL players who have little to no impact on the program.

I view Ohio State as a cut above Penn State in the hierarchy of college football. Franklin actually has Penn State just about maxed out, in my opinion. Completely agree that they could do better with a better QB/receiver tandem and would be dangerous if they ever caught lightning in a bottle for a few seasons, but I don't put them on Ohio State or Michigan's level (even though Michigan especially hasn't always performed to that level over the last few decades).

Penn State is like a purple blood, along with maybe Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, and some others. At least to me. But I also think the southern schools typically have an advantage within each tier. So if Penn State and Florida are both at full potential, for instance, I'm taking Florida. This all makes sense in my head, but that might be the only place it makes sense.

That's a pretty accurate assessment. Maybe a hair better than those schools but only because they've won the conference a couple more times.

I think PSU needs to step up their recruiting to a more national level. Yeah, they are cleaning up the WPIAL, but is Anth really going to strike fear into the hearts of Georgia or Alabama?

I don’t think they can though.
The further out you go, the more diminishing returns you get.
At some point all the money balances out amongst these upper tier NIL spenders.

So how do you go into Georgia and actually hold on to Justin Fields or somebody like that when they have 10 to 15 programs closer to them that are at your level or higher?

That’s why I agree with others that have said they are maxed out as a program.

No one is maxed out in today's college landscape, if a Pitt booster decide to throw a $50 million into NIL every year Pitt or any school would quickly be recruiting number one classes. All a school has to do is find the money

And once they do, they reset the market.
The south and Texas aren’t going to let Penn State or Pitt raid them. The hat will be passed around to match them.

At a minimum, in order to truly compete, you do need to make sure the local talent stays home. Besides PSU, Michigan and ND have had way too much success in this state.
