I now see that it looks like the Polo Grounds had a cut-out in center field that was 483 feet, and Mays was to the right of that, so at least according to Wikipedia, there is some controversy about exactly how far he had to go to make the catch.

These are all great catches....I'll give you that. Now put the kind of smaller outfield glove Willie Mays used on the hand of today's players in the outfield and I'm not sure some of these catches are made.
