I've been watching on and off today the national media continuously say how a coach like Jim Harbaugh turns programs around almost immediately and changes their culture.
Pitt football under Pat Narduzzi has been(let's keep it real) slightly above average if you evaluate his whole tenure. A couple of seasons bad, a couple of seasons excellent or very good and a few seasons mediocre. The Bowl games for the most part have not been impressive, the recruiting has been good in some areas and poor in others and his teams have mostly all been undisciplined.
Now obviously Jim Harbaugh is never coming to Pitt but my point is do you think a coach like that would be putting up with the weekly stupid penalties that occur game after game? The bad use of timeouts? The yearly losses to bad teams at home?
The answer is a resounding NO. I would bet anything that if Pitt had a coach like Jim Harbaugh take over the program in 2025, you would see drastic changes and all for the better. Obviously getting good players is critical and having a coach like Harbaugh would dramatically help. But he brings so much more to programs than recruiting. I think Pitt would be competing for the CFP and ACC Title just about every season and we certainly wouldn't be watching 3 straight defensive offsides on a 4th and 21. We wouldn't be watching dumb personal foul penalties on our guys week after week.
I'm sure I'll get the usual Narduzzi is the best Pitt can do replies and I'm expecting that. But coaching definitely matters and I think Pitt would be so much better year after year if a guy like Harbaugh was in charge.
Just my 2 cents. But it's all good because the Motor City Bowl is calling our name in a few weeks.
