Still can't win games but a pro at crying about refs, at Pitt with ignorant fans will do well , winning at Pitt is not important from administration on down

We know here he's right and good for him for taking up the cause I guess. Just don't know how it can help and probably more negative overall for him imo.

I like Jeff Capel and think his intentions are good in saying these things about the refs but the bottom line is he needs to win more basketball games period. This team isn’t losing games solely because of bad officiating. They are losing games because they aren’t playing well enough to win across the board and that’s all that matters at the end of the day. Quit whining about the officiating, recruit better, play better and win more games and get this team in the NCAA Tournament in 2022. That’s what Capel needs to focus on because his excuse making and these mid to late season collapses are starting to get old.

Ok, I’ll voice the dissenting opinion - why do we know he’s right?

I’m sure many on here watch way more ACC games than I do, but of the ones I do, I really can’t say Pitt is consistently short-changed in calls, whether normal in play foul calls/non-calls or technicals.

Sure there’s been games or instances here and there where there are calls/non-calls I don’t agree with, but consistently game to game to game, nope I don’t agree.

Particularly on the technicals, I’ve always been of the impression that our Pitt players complain to the refs more than other teams. Many on here were critical of X for all his turnovers and other game play mishaps. For me,the turnovers obviously weren’t good. But he disappointed me most with his constant complaining to the refs over calls/non-calls, whether verbally or demonstrative.

I blame the Refs for Capel not having a recruit committed in 2021.

Why can’t it be both ? 🤷‍♂️
The team can be not playing well and the refs can be bullshit

So saying both (which he has done) is no harm no foul.

Because some of us are paying attention?

I mean Pitt had a guy get a technical foul called on him for yelling "And one!" when a teammate got fouled (not called) making a basket. If you listen to the background noise during games you can hear guys yelling out "And one!" after a shot a dozen times a game. That's literally more than 100 times in just Pitt games this season. It's only ever been called a technical once. Against us.

And then yesterday you have not one, not two, but three Clemson players after a foul call against them (and admittedly, a really bad call), immediately jump up and start yelling and waving their arms. The guy that had the foul called against him literally ran off the court while he was yelling and waving his arms around. And nothing. That display was worse than anything that Johnson did this season that got him a technical. By far. No call.

It's like I said during the game thread yesterday, the problem isn't necessarily any individual call. It is the complete and utter inconsistency in what gets called, not only from one game to the next but from one play to the next. What players want isn't tight officiating or let them play officiating. What they want is consistent officiating. And that has been sorely lacking this season.

The officiating is terrible and very inconsistent. We know that. And Capel is right for pointing it out. But what good will it do? He has to quit whining and do his job. He needs to recruit better players....hell, recruit any players at all....and coach them up better. He needs to get results, help his team win, and quit with this childish whining. No one owes him anything...not the refs especially. Better play and better players overcome poor officiating and win. Capel has neither better players nor have the players he has played better. It's Capel's team and program and he is accountable.

Yep, your right Joe, ref calls or so consistently and insanely unbalanced against Pitt relative to the rest of the league all season long, last year, year before that. There’s some largely unjust and unfair discrimination against Pitt because we’re not any good or one of the good ole boys.

Nah, it can’t just be that refs don’t do a good job sometimes, and it varies from crew to crew and ref to ref and sometimes the calls go Pitt’s way and other times they go against Pitt.

Pitt is treated so unfairly. What a joke.

He should spend his energy on 2022 recruits and making the team better.

Crying about refs is JV. Maybe make one stand and be done with it just to get on record, but him and his players have been dramatic all season after every call. Throwing arms all over the place and heads shaking up and down, running around after the play instead of focusing on ball in play. They get it from coach. He needs to act like a pro so his players can learn to act like pros. Ridiculous. Capel is a lil biatch IMO crying like this last game of the season.

It's our job to complain about refs in game threads and then the add on threads after the game. You know them, " I usually don't say anything, BUT"... whatever, Capel is a turd for making a scene last game of the year he has way more important things to worry about.

Because it’s plainly obvious of the inconsistency and double standards the past 4 -5 games in particular ?

Well your reading comprehension level is apparently really low, because I said nothing of the sort. In fact, I actually said right there in the post that you quoted that the play that the three Clemson players went nuts over yesterday was actually a bad call. But that doesn't actually excuse the behavior, does it? The ref obviously thought the call was right. You never see three guys on a team react to a call like those guys did yesterday and not have a technical called. Never.

But again, there have been more than 100 times in Pitt games this season (and many hundreds of times in games that I have watched on television) that guys have yelled "and one!" on a shot attempt. And yet that's only been called a technical one time all season in all those games. If you don't think that was odd, and was clearly a wrong call, then I don't know what to say, because to think that you'd have to clearly have no idea what you were talking about.

If you have watched both Pitt games and other games all season long and you don't see the inconsistency in officiating then the problem isn't that I'm pointing it out. The problem is that you have no idea what you are watching.
