For trying to market its product around the world. That being said, if I'm in charge of the marketing for the NFL, I am not taking two bland, conservative offenses like the Ravens and Titans to display on the international stage. Both of these two teams and their coaches are boring. Lets run the ball, play defense and kick FG's in order to win the game.
Where are the exciting players and teams of the league? If I'm a successful business man in Europe and I'm looking to invest big money by buying an NFL franchise, I'm not interested in the product on the field.

They need to put a team in London. Also, it infuriates me that all these American pro leagues play regular season games in Europe but they cant play 1 regular season pro soccer game here. Some small club was going play their home game vs Barcelona in Miami but the players mutinied.

How did it come about that Jacksonville has played so many games in London. Don’t they have something like twice as many games overseas as any other NFL team?

Because their stadium sucks and they (typically) don't draw well at home, although they have the last year or two. They played in London because their owner made a lot more money playing a home game in London than he did playing a home game in Jacksonville.

And for most other teams that is simply not the case, so most other teams don't actually want to play games in London (or Germany, or anywhere else). Especially home games. Jacksonville is more than happy to give up a home game to play overseas. Teams like Pittsburgh and Dallas and Green Bay and New York, etc., etc. want no part of that.

Yeah, everything you said is what I thought was the answer. But by the same token, you would have thought the NFL would have had a bigger interest in getting some more high profile marquee teams and/or games over there.

There are rumors that the Steelers will play a home game in Mexico City in 2025. They also played in London in 2013 but the Vikings were the home team. So you statement about the Steelers could be true as far as Europe but maybe not true for Mexico City where they have a big fan base.

But they sure do know how to market themselves. And the NFL doesn't mess around when it comes to customers. You go to the bathroom at halftime and they're kicking off the second half before you can get your fly zipped up.

Who cares about playing an NFL game out of Pittsburgh, or the US for that matter. Set up an american football league there and let it generate fans, players, and development of the game at lower levels, and leave the disruption of playing across the Atlantic behind. Games in Mexico, fine , no problem.

The NFL sells out and makes top dollar off the brand alone. Put the NFL Shield on the middle of any field, and it's selling big.

Owners don't want to loose their local revenue knowing the bigger pie is being taking off regardless.

I'm surprised Baltimore even went over there. I guess it was their turn. The Art Modell run Ravens would've figured a way around it.

For a while, I thought it was inevitable that the NFL would expand internationally, perhaps in the next 10-15 years.

Now, I wouldn’t be surprised if they used the 17th regular season for international exposure, whether that be London, Mexico City, Germany, or Spain.

Everyone has to play games outside the US on occasion. It's not that the Stillers WANT to play one, it's that they (and everyone else) are going to HAVE to play one. If given the choice, the Stillers would rather play in Mexico City than in, for instance, Frankfurt.

But if given a choice between playing in Pittsburgh or playing in Mexico City they pick playing in Pittsburgh 11 times out of 10. And that does not apply to the Jaguars and London.

Why...when they can still sellout with the slugs of the league?

You think they’re playing games in London and elsewhere overseas simply to sell out stadiums? I think they have their sites on a lot bigger paydays than just selling out a stadium.

But why? Can't the league owners be happy with owning an NFL team worth billions?

That’s not my point - I understand they want to expand their footprint but they don't have to have marquee matchups overseas to do it.

you have to wonder if anyone in england cares about american football or if it's just American football fans using this game to go take a vacation to europe to watch their team play..

Rumors of the nfl looking at a super bowl in either london or frankfurt. Honestly, i chalk this up to typical social media nonsense, some blogger throwing it out there as rumor when he is just looking for clicks but IF there is any legitimacy to this, this would be an insanely ridiculous blunder..

So then don't ever send the Steelers :)

No, ridiculous, don't need it, they can get a team in European League, and it's kind of strange England doesn't have a team in that league. that's as bad an idea as USA joining UEFA, I hope none of that ever happens.

Ideas like these are why college football was totally destroyed and all the best regional leagues and rivalries where obliterated and relegated to memories, so Stanford can be in the ATLANTIC COAST conference.

This was a really good game. I think Harbaugh & Vrabel are two of the best. And as far as exciting players, Lamar and Derrick Henry certainly fit the bill.
I'd hate to have them as my coach, I'm sick as hell of the ANTI-OFFENSE philosophy we are always stuck with in YINZER NATION.

Except for the fact Goddell has said they’re considering it in multiple interviews now. I think it’s a stupid idea and don’t know if Goodell is anywhere serious about it but he has nonetheless confirmed their/his consideration of it multiple times now.

That would be horrible for the actual NFL fans in the USA, England or Germany are 5-6 hours ahead, unless they kick off no earlier than 10pm their time, it'll throw off the whole Super Bowl party tradition.

They figure it would have to be an 8:30pm kickoff which would be 3:30pm East cost and 12:30pm west coast. Not popular with the media since it takes it out of prime time.

man, on NCanton, thanks for clarifying. That would be a disaster IMO.

Also, I'd think less popular with fans throwing big parties, 6pm is a perfect time for a party IMO.

6pm is a perfect time for a super bowl party, 6pm on SATURDAY..
I agree, that would be best, NFL has always been associated with Sunday, but a Saturday game would be better, no work the next day for most people.

My own personal idea has always been for college football, they should have the College Playoff Championship game of the Saturday night on the weekend between the NFL Conference Championship Games and the Super Bowl. There's no real football that weekend and more people would watch it and throw parties for it, I'd even watch it, I hate it on Monday night at 9pm, never watch it, between the time and its always teams that I hate :)

Lol. Nobody is anti-offense.
I don't want run first, I want to toss it all over the yard all day long, score fast, score often, score a lot, TDs not FGs, not ball control, not shorten the game, I want to be willing and hoping to draw the opponent into a high scoring shootout.

Steelers are 7th in pass attempts. I don't think it always works the way you think it does.

Don't think such a thing exists on any type of consistent basis. Maybe 7 on 7 flag football.

Of course not, I'd just want to try to build one of the teams where that type of play and results happens more than for most teams, doesn't have to be perfect.

Doesn't have to be consistent, there are teams where that is more common than other teams and that's what I'd want to shoot for. To be one of those teams that embrace that and strive to be that.

There's 10 million people in London and 56 million people in England. These are soccer, cricket, and rugby fans first but there are enough people to support an NFL team and grow the game. In 30 years, 50 years, American football could overtake cricket and rugby just as soccer has overtaken hockey here.
