Last night on TV sports show with Richie Walsh, Paul Zeise went off on the "Pod" system that Allegheny County Politicians put in place for football games to resume along with not allowing fans or even parents to attend games. He said it was the dumbest thing he's seen and that it's idiotic to allow hundreds of people to protest daily but not allow parents to attend their children's games. Kudos to him for speaking up. Football and soccer stadiums/fields are huge. It would be easy to socially distance. Either our political leaders lack common sense or there's a political agenda. Maybe both. As long as parents are socially responsible, they should be allowed to see their kids play!!!!!

The problem is that a lot of people aren’t socially responsible.

He's been going off since March. Parents should just be glad they're playing. If they find a way to allow them to attend, fine. If not, kids still get to play which is the most important thing.

How many “Uhm’s” did he say before he was able to say all that?

Limit attendance to 30 or 40% of stadium capacity. Keep the fans who are allowed in to socially distance. Make everybody wear masks.

Problem solved.

No parents should be allowed to attend their kids games. This is ridiculous. They do it in the north hills every weekend. Football, baseball, and lots of family attending. People know the risks and are ready to get close to normal. You can go to wal mart or sams club but u can't attend a freaking game. Protests every day. This world is upside down

I did not listen to the show with Zeise. I fall right in the middle if people are allowed to attend games. While I think some people should be able to attend if they are kept distant, the minority of the attendees ruin it for everyone.
I read an article this morning that many people who attended the Kansas City Chief practice last night removed their mask upon entering the stadium, You can't have it both ways. If teams allow fans in to watch the games/practices, why can't people just respect the rule that says masks on all the time?

He seems to be as intelligent as he sounds.

He is an astonishingly poor speaker for a radio (purely aural) format. Occasionally I will hear him, and his communication skills have not improved over time. If you randomly woke someone up at 3:30 AM and stuck a microphone in their face they would maybe sound as disordered as Zeise. Maybe.

Both the race protests and the anti-mask protests are protected First Amendment speech. Playing high school sports (or watching your child play high school sports) is not Constitutionally protected. So that's the difference.

So if parents decide to "protest" their right to watch their children play at the field or stadium then that's OK?

Yes. But they may be denied entrance to the stadium to do so. Courts have given government leeway to protect 1st amendment rights but not always in the exact spot protesters would prefer.

So if I were the mayor of any city I could tell the protesters they could protest but it must be in a city park or open field but they cannot block off traffic in the streets of the city?

Yes. This happens frequently. Both in Pittsburgh and elsewhere.

He’s always been a bad writer
It sounds like he writes like he talks

This area has awful sports media for the most part

I agree with you.

I have never really cared for Zeise as a reporter or columnist. I will say, I think that he does try (FWIW). Some of these other Pittsburgh sports media personalities, I think they may not even try and write worse.

As far as his opinions in general, I think he is who he is. It is nothing new from him; he is just more vocal due to the situation (like most everyone else).

For all the political talk, my enduring thought about Zeise's opinions is how he seemingly was in the camp of folks that thought Jamie Dixon was replaceable in a somewhat easy manner. He went out of his way to praise Kevin Stallings at every point as well.

Dumb people get radio jobs, too. Zeise is a nice guy, with a delivery suited to silent movies and mimes.

The days of Beano Cook and Myron Cope are long gone for Pittsburgh sports media ...

He was a weird Stallings shill. Weird on disgust for Dixon. Clouded my opinion of his views honestly. Haha.

Zeise made it clear that he was more interested in being entertained than seeing Pitt win. You see the same media reaction every year to the way Virginia plays. I'd love to have half the success UVa does, no matter how it may look.

Zeise is a putz. His whining about not renewing the Duquesne series was over the top. But he has been unreadable on Twitter lately. Had to unfollow him. Sad that we have to count that loser as one of the few Pitt friendly local media members
