Looking for some opinions on an issue that came up tonight with some friends at the Live Casino. ..

my closest friend went to Psu, and was on the varsity basketball team at a bigger high school in the wpial. He played on a team that would scrimmage the Psu women’s team in the mid 2000s and claims that they would consistently dominate the Psu women’s team. Just to put that into perspective. And I don’t doubt his integrity for one second. Just my two cents.
I believe that. My buddy went to CMU and was friends with a women’s basketball player there. One summer, he asked if we wanted to play pickup basketball against the CMU women’s team for two weeks since they couldn’t have true practices over that timeframe. We dominated them every game. When I say, “we” I mean 4 college sophomore guys (none who were over 6’1”) who played high school basketball and 1 who didn’t play.

There is 10 of us sitting in an area at the Rivers Casino watching some basketball games on tv. As we are talking one of the girls sitting at a table next to us made a comment to one of my friends, talking about how far the sport of women's basketball has come, especially the WNBA. The one girl made a comment about how she felt that a good WNBA team could give an average NBA team a run for their money.
We all started laughing at her statement thinking that she was just trying to be funny and she got upset about that.
This poor woman actually believes that would happen if the two teams were to play. I didn't want to be mean, but I had to explain to her that, if a game were to be played between an average NBA team and a good WNBA team, that it would not even be close. She said that we didn't know what we were talking about. I told her if they played a game between the best players in the WNBA and a random male team of five male players, say Steph Curry and Nikola Jokic and three 50 year old men, the game would not even be close.
In fact, just two the NBA players (Steph Curry and Nikola Jokic) would crush the best WNBA players in a game.
What do you guys think?

The better question is, what record would the best WNBA have in 6A WPIAL Boys HS basketball? I think they'd win some. Maybe go .500.

For comparison's sake, the USWNT famously lost to FC Dallas middle schoolers. And Arsenal's women's team lost to their middle school age boys this year.

I was an average high school basketball player and I was better than the best girl on our girl's team, who scored about 2,000 points in high school ended up being a 4 year starter at an ACC program.

Men are just so much more physical. Bigger, faster, stronger so we can get to the hoop better and defend better. Trying to score on someone that's significantly bigger than you and faster than you is laughable in basketball. It's like you're trying to run through a living brick wall that's always one step in front of you. So you have to resort to shooting over the brick wall, but then the wall is also taller than you. It's just a losing proposition.

It seems like you kind of lectured her a little bit. I probably wouldn't have bothered to educate someone who knew that little about hoops. They just don't even know enough to understand your references. Let them live in their bubble next time.

the best wnba team wouldnt win the wpial boys championship..

EDIT: I just asked my buddy who coached wpial boys hoops for years and he disagreed and said that a good WNBA team would absolutely without a doubt dominate in wpial boys hoops.
He is just wrong unless he is talking about an average single A school.

Women play fundamental basketball not I can dunk better than you. Women also can shoot three's better, did not one beat a man in NBA all star game. Hey Dick, WNBA all the way.

On the whole, women do not shoot threes better than the men. This year the men's average is around 34%, the women are at around 31%. And that's with the women using a smaller ball, which increases your percentage.

There was a women's team this year, Arkansas Little Rock, that shot 14.1% for the season, 19-135. The worse men's team shot 26.6%. There were 30 women's teams that shot worse than that.

Yeah, no. The WNBA's best 3P shooter attempts fewer than 4 three-pointers per game. She makes 2 of them on average. That's almost identical to Al Horford, who nobody thinks of as a good shooter (and who has to shoot a bigger ball, from further away, and with taller, faster defenders).

Stef Curry attempts 12 three-pointers per game and makes 5.5 of them. Maya Caldwell can't shoot efficiently on that kind of volume. Not even close.

I bet if you took just an above-average shooter like Desmond Bane and put him in the WNBA he'd shoot 60% or more from 3.

I hope that I didn't come off as "lecturing her". She just caught me totally off guard with her statement. I wanted to point out to her about that male swimmer from Penn who decided to say that he was transgender (not sure i'm using the proper words to describe his/her situation) and competed against women at the NCAA National Championships. I mean, when the guy competed as a male, he did nothing. Competing against women, this same guy, was setting NCAA records.

When I was a young kid, I thought the greatest basketball team ever was the Harlem Globetrotters, and they would beat any NBA team if the NBA had the courage to play them. I also thought studio wrestling was the real thing.

But alas, I realized that the tooth fairy didn't come if I didn't tell my parents about that knocked out tooth. Unlike Peter Pan, I became an adult, still naive but much more realistic.

In my opinion, an all-star WNBA team wouldn't stand a chance against the last place team in the NBA. It has nothing to do with heart and everything to do with physical characteristics.

This is also why trans women playing against naturally born women is totally unfair. The only reason we have women's sports in the first place is that men have a biological advantage in physical competition.

Did you ask her what size ball they would use? Based on her ignorance, she probably wouldn’t even understand the question.

I love womens sports and I will defend it til I’m blue in the face, but this woman is insane. Some people you just can’t have certain discussions with.

I mean....when it comes down to it. I don't care what current political narratives say, men and women are not equal......physically. We just aren't. That doesn't mean every man is stronger and fast than every women.....but if you would put the two distributions together, it would be bimodal, with the very top of the tail for females over lapping the very bottom of the tails for mens.

This is why that transgender stuff is an affront to women and women's rights more than men. Like I posted above, the top 1000 100 meter dash times for males exceeds the very best of female. I don't know why admitting this is "transphobic" or wrong.....because it is the unadulterated truth. Maybe in 10,000 years we morph into hermaphroditic creatures and biological sexes are blurred really physically (not a "I identify with") but right now and the foreseeable future, ain't no women playing with men's pro sports.

No different when people would say could Alabama football beat the 0-16 Detroit lions....NO.

Could a WNBA team beat and NCAA men's champion? Perhaps in the right circumstance.

Could a WNBA team beat the worst NBA team? Maybe 1 out of 100 times it might be possible if it was the greatest wnba all star team but I would agree with you and your friends that this would be very very unlikely.

And I am not coming at it from the "men are far superior to women" or " little girl...go home." I enjoy women's sports. But men vs women in basketball is not happening.

Bowling...yes.
Tennis? I think Serena in her prime could give many of the men on tour a loss.
Basketball? No.
Tennis? I think Serena in her prime could give many of the men on tour a loss....uh, that is also a big NO...

Could a WNBA team beat and NCAA men's champion? Perhaps in the right circumstance....DITTO on the NO

Lay off the crack.

An all-time WNBA dream team would get smoked by IMG Academy.

Which is funnier?

The girl who thinks the WNBA team could compete with an NBA team, or the fact that this thread is still being discussed?

When it comes to comparing basketball (and not only) teams of different genders, it is important to understand that physical differences between men and women will greatly affect the outcome of the game. Men have physical advantages, they are stronger, they are faster and more enduring. I think, in most cases, the men's teams have an advantage over the women's teams in a purely physical sense. And this is already a lot. In mind-dominated games, such as gambling, which is plentiful these days, the odds are more even. https://auspokiesguide.com/best-casinos/real-money/ to play, it is better to visit this site. Here are the real money casinos in Australia, with an overview and a complete guide. In general, the success of a women's team against a men's team depends on the specific circumstances and conditions of a given game.
