Let's look at some raw stats through the first 2 games of the season first

Pitt Team FG % on offense- 51.5%

Pitt 3 point shooting- 39.3%

Team Free throw shooting- 61%

Team Midrange shooting- 48%

Team Interior Finishing- 68% (Lets get the ball inside more)

Points per game- 95

Pitt has 6 players over 120+ in ORTG offensive Power Rating which is fantastic.

Pitt has 2 players at 100 and 96 in ORTG power rating in Jeffress and Austin which is ok for more reserve types but I would like it to be considerably better

Pitt has 1 player at 57 in ORTG in Lowe

Pitt has 1 light reserve player in Michael Huitt at 117 ORTG

Pitt is ranked 12th in the country in offensive rebound percentage at 44%
Pitt is ranked 41st in the country in defensive rebound percentage at 83%
Pitt's total rebound percentage is ranked 9th in the country

Pitt's scoring margin per game is ranked 9th in the country at 38.5 points per game

Pitt is 10th in the country in total field goal percent defense at 30%
Pitt is 71st in the country in 3 point defense at 27%

Pitt is ranked 53rd in the country in assist to turnover margin

Efficiency site Team Power Ranking

Pomeoy- 49th
Torvik- 67th
Haslam- 37th
Warren Nolan- 55th
Massey- 60th

Individual

8 Pitt players have a slice of the pie in team win shares which shows the balance on this team so far. Carlton Carrington leads the way with .6 followed by Leggett and Hinson with .5.

2 things that stick out

Fede has a total rebound percentage of 18.8% on the year. This has been a big weakness for him in the past, I hope this continues

Guillermo has a turnover rate of 34% through 2 games. This can change quickly in a few more games, but its very uncharacteristic of him to be careless with the ball like this

The top 5 players in DRTG defensive Power Rating on our team so far, lower is better

Guillermo- 66
Jeffress- 68
Fede- 70
Leggett- 74
Austin- 76

This is an early sign that again shows the balance of strength on our team by different players on offense compared to defense

In short, Im pleased for the most part with most of the numbers as a whole above

Tabs on future opponents

Virginia beat Florida by 3 points in a nail biter
Memphis beat Missouri by 15 points
Indiana beat Florida Gulf Coast by 6 points
West Virginia lost to Monmouth by 8 points
Clemson won a nail biter over UAB by 1 point

Efficiency Site Early lines on Florida Gulf Coast, Pitts next game

Torvik- -7.7
Haslam- -10
Warren Nolan- -17
Massey- -13

52% of Florida Gulf Coasts total shots are from 3. Expect a lot of 3's in this game as our defense should hold things together just fine in the interior. As Ive said, continue to play tough with aggression and intensity on defense and keep after it on the glass, and good things will continue to happen.

Great breakdown. Thank you. Are the 6 over 120 twins, Fede, Hinson, leggett and Bub? Jeffress and Austin at 100 is fine if defense stays that solid, but Austin should regress to mean in a good way. His 3s should fall eventually.

What were the breakdowns last year rating rise for Cummings, Burton, Elliott and Sibande? It seems they are gelling earlier than last year, but can the production of those be matched or exceeded? It would be a tall task by Bubs and Leggett to equal the production of those 4…

The team ORTG offensive Power Rating leaders are currently

Jorge Diaz Graham- 204
Carrington-153
Hinson- 149
Fede-128
Guillermo- 127
Leggett- 124

The 4 players you asked about for last season for the entire season were

Burton-110
Elliot- 122
Cummings-109
Sibande-108

I don't want to make any big conclusions after only 2 games. However, Nelly Cummings was one of the biggest reasons our team started in a giant hole last year.

His first 5 games as a panther, Nelly's Offensive power ratings were

92
85
72
78
76

That is really bad for a 5th year senior and I think he was really nervous as a panther to start off. In contrast to Cummings, Lowe doesn't look nervous at all. Lowe looks out of sync as an offensive player just overall in his playing and how he fits in with our offense. He clearly is still adapting to the speed and athletic ability of the college game.

Austin made spot up 3's at 37% in the past. He actually has a track record of making open 3 point shots in the past as a spot up shooter. He should get things together at some point.

There is plenty of offensive potential on this roster as a complete team unit. I don't think we need to compare this years guards to last years guards in terms of production. I think the questions to ask is, just how good and dominant can this team be on defense and on the glass. At this stage of the game, we are lightyears ahead of last year in those 2 departments thus far.

Post game interview. Some good stuff here. Same 2 players (Hinson and Leggett) before the game even started talked about weaknesses and areas to improve one. Same 2 players after the game (the video below) talking about weaknesses and improving some things next game, keeping composure, etc..

Shout out to the media asking some of these questions instead of patting these guys on the back for winning by 29 points giving layup type questions of praise.

Special shout out to Blake Hinson for acknowledging some guys need to step up on defense way more and in other areas of the game. This is the type of stuff you want to see from our leaders. This type of stuff where there is little self satisfaction after a 29 point win is what can potentially make this team the biggest dark horse in college basketball.

Let's keep this going...

Regarding FT shooting-- Two games so far-- First game FT % below past average % for the same players who shot the FTs. Haven't done the same math on game 2; but it appears the % may have been about what on average you would expect for this team at about 70%. Very likely some future games will have the team shoot FT's at a higher than normal %. Just like you sometimes have below normal games you will have some above normal games in shooting FTs. I would expect the team's average for the entire season will end up at, or over ,70% but perhaps not at high as last season's 0.759 (76%).

Vader - just curious what Lowe’s OR was last night? Is there a free site to pull such stats from?

Lowe's ORTG was 151.

I would start with torvik if you are just getting started with advanced efficiency. Torvik makes things pretty easy to read and understand.
