If AI is the future I don't want it. SFGate's ACC Power rankings are a joke

SFGate's power ranking came up on my Google Feed. They generated these rankings using Data Skrive which bills itself as "a technology company that takes human-written and -edited content, and then uses AI to assemble it into original sports and entertainment articles". Here are the rankings and projected records for each team (they don't count FCS games for some reason):

1. Miami 10-1
2. Louisville 10-1
3. Duke 9-2
4. SMU 8-3
5. Florida State 4-7
6. Virginia Tech 8-4
7. BC 6-5
8. UNC 6-5
9. Georgia Tech 4-7
10. Clemson 6-5
11. Virginia 4-7
12. Pitt 7-4
13. Cal 6-5
14. Stanford 2-9
15. Wake 2-9
16. Syracuse 3-8
17. NC State 4-7

I have no problem with Miami and Louisville being 1 and 2. Projecting Pitt as the 12th best team with 7 (really 8) projected wins is ridiculous along with Clemson being 10th. Some of the win totals seem out of wack especially Duke, Syracuse, and Clemson.

Here is the link to the original article.

Pitt MSOC may be #1 on Tuesday

I think the rankings come out on Tuesdays. #2 Pitt went 2-0 this and is 7-1. #1 Stanford just drew Duke on an 88th minute goal thanks to some cringeworthy 1v1 Duke defending. Stanford is now 6-1-1. #3 Denver had a draw this week and is now 4-0-4. They are coached by a former Vidovich player from Wake and will be here in 2 weeks. Could it be #1 vs #2? Maybe we can move it to Acrisure. But WVU didnt take my advice and move their match with Marshall last year to Mountaineer Field. Could have drawn 20K if they marketed it. That was #1 vs #5.

ESPN Gamecast Predictions Rest of Season

ESPN Gamecast has Pitt favored in next 3 games; then predicted to lose to SMU before being predicted to beat UVA.

Then--- it has Pitt going 0-3 the rest of the way vs Clemson, @Louisville and @BC.

That would result in 8-4 (4-4 ACC) if all game by game predictions held. If going, instead, by sum of % chances to win each game (divided by 8 games) Gamecast predicts 5 more wins for 9-3 (5-3 ACC).

Also, FWIW--Sagarin rating today has Pitt up to #45 nationally (#28 in his "strong recent" rating).

A pat Narduzzi thank you post

Look, obviously this season could still go sideways, but my expectations before the year were like 6-6 and signs the offense was moving forward.

Well, the offense has been a success and 6-6 almost seems given at this point.

So pat, I’ve been one of your biggest critics on here….thank you for hiring bell. That took a ton of introspection on his part, and making that change could not have been easy but he might have saved his job.

McMurphy included Pitt in his ballot this week

He was late to the party in 2021 and 2022, but has them at 24 this week…It does make me wonder if they get ranked this week, but a good sign for those that care about this stuff.

Thoughts

- I still contend that Daniel Carter is the second-best non-suspended back on this team. Way better hips/feet and vision than Davis. I don't get it. He also picked up multiple blitzers while blocking.

I also think Hammond would thrive in this offense, so that one stings.

- This d line is awful. We missed a lot of coverage assignments on defense, and that can be fixed. The line, however? YSU hangs 30-something on us if not for some self-induced penalties, what I thought was a fortuitous fumble call, etc. Guys up front just getting their asses kicked. This team would waltz to 9-3 with even last year's very average d line, which is nuts. I think I saw Borders, Matlack, and Donald after the game hula-hooping Cheerios.

- I continue to be confused as to whether or not Gavin Bartholomew is a good inline tight end.

- Shotgun on 4th and a foot is a little disappointing.

- Kenny Johnson returned way too many kicks for my preference. Should have had him fair catching against an FCS team.

- Similarly, why the hell was the entire starting OL in there so long? We left after the pick six and I still hadn't seen a backup play. If either of those tackles go down, good night.

- Our safeties are not playing as well as I had hoped. The linebackers, however, are as good as advertised. Louis, George, and Biles are a hell of a trio. What we do in the ACC will probably depend on how well the linebackers can make up for shoddy d line play.

- Clemson and Miami both look like they would eat our lunch, but my gosh does the rest of this conference suck. Dare I call 8-4 "the bar" right now?

Daniel Carter

I have been saying Daniel Carter is a productive back that should be getting more carries since I first saw him at Pitt 17 yrears ago. I'm so happy for him that he got his opportunity to shine. I really hope the coaches recognize the fact that Dez cannot hold up for a full season doing it on his own. If you have the talent a change of pace back can and does work. Dez is the starting RB but get Carter involved as well. I think 7-10 touches a game is about right. What do my Panther brothers and sisters think?
