Video and transcript: Bronowski on special teams, the tight ends, the offense and more from the opener

Pitt special teams coordinator and tight ends coach Jacob Bronowski met the media on Tuesday and recapped the Panthers' win over Kent State. Here's video and a full rundown of his remarks.

Thoughts on the Game

*Holstein and Reid proved me wrong. I had my doubts whether they could step up, and be the players we were hoping for. Both were sensational. However, Holstein needs to be careful with the ball. He threw one interception and nearly had to more picked off.

*The offense will be fun to watch. It had balance and big play capabilities. It was so nice to feel confident when the ball is in the air that it will thrown accurately. Unfortunately the way the defense played at times, they’re going to need to score a lot of points this year. Speaking of defense….

*The defense looked a lot like last year’s version. There were many missed tackles, no pass rush in the first half and prone to give up the big plays in the secondary. The run defense looked spotty at times.

*Special teams looked improved, except the punting game. It was the same. Hopefully they won’t need to use the punter as much as last year.

* As everyone knows QB is everything in football. Pitt is in great shape with Holstein and Yarnell. Both can win for Pitt. Pitt may be better than anticipated by a lot of the pundits.

*As for coaching, Kade Bell is as good as advertised. The offense moved much better than I anticipated for the first game. Can they do that against better competition? We’ll see.

Overall, it was a good first game, but needs more work on the defense. Better competition is coming so they need to step up.

NIL

Was talking to a guy at my usual tailgate I go to. Big Pitt fan drives in about 2 2/1 hrs for ll home games. Asked hi if he did anything with NIL. He said no. I told him he should even if it is just the 19.76 a month. He said he would, but he was like how do i do that does the school run it. I said no just google Allianse 412 and mentioned that Bickel is the guy behind it for the most part. Have these idiots really gotten the message out?

Article Film review: Ups and downs from Pitt's defense in the opener

Lost Oakland

When the band performed Lost Oakland the man sitting next to me and I began to talk about Oakland when we attended Pitt. Also, about games at Pitt Stadium.

I noticed he was wearing a block PITT t-shirt with the old Panther Logo. He said he purchased the shirt on-line through 47. Also he remembered the Panther Logo mural overlooking Pitt Stadium from the building next to the stadium. However, he asked if I remembered the building. I said it was painted on the side of Pennsylvania Hall (I think).

Do any older Panthers know if I'm correct? And believe me it will take an older Panther fan.

Thanks

OT: PSU vs LV WVB

Penn State is absolutely waxing Louisville tonight in State College. The lady nits look about as good as anyone right now but at the same time I am really not impressed by Louisville. DeBeer hasn’t looked right at all and their freshman setter is all over the place. PSU will be a tough match for us when they visit in a few weeks. Could be #2 vs #3

Article Film review: How Pitt's new offense looked in the opener

Pitt rolled out its new offense with a new quarterback in the season opener against Kent State on Saturday. How did Eli Holstein and Kade Bell do in their first games with the Panthers? Let's break down the film.

ACC Is Wide Open

Waaaay too early.

But what we do Know.

Florida St. Sucks and By midnight Labor Day eliminated from winning the League.
NC Lost their Starting Qb cant be good.
Clemson Not the power house they once were.
Miami are they finally for real??? I will have to see it before i believe it.

Everybody else who the hell knows.

Even if Miami is for real still leaves 1 spot wide open.

I also think it is completely asinine that the Leagues (ACC SEC BIG 10 And Bic 12) have gotten so big you dont even play half the team in your league anymore. I mean seems that winning your league now could come down to scheduling luck as much as anything else.

ACC or any league for that matter could have 1 team win the league and 4 or 5 teams tied at 8-4 for second 3rd place

Lastly. I watched several games this wknd. Every Upper level team poaches players from lower level teams. Seem the power already has been and will continue to be consolodatedwithin the top 8/10 teams? Pitt is not the only team getting poached. I must have heard 20 times so and so used to play for Liberty or Pitt or Mississippi St etc etc etc.

Really excited to watch the Cincinatti game to see if this new offense is legit. Still very concerned about the D line.
