Remember when Tom Herman was the next big thing?

May have interviewed here after Chryst left. I remember hoping he would be seriously considered and hopefully take the job. Now he's a jabroni, coaching a jobber program in Florida Atlantic arguing with the USF coach after the game since USF decided a little payback was in order for Herman running up things last year.

Predictions for SMU

7-0, first time since 1982, this season has been incredible so far. Pitt are decently sized underdogs this weekend (currently +7.5) and most national people (and podcasts) don't seem to be giving them much of a shot and it seems most think SMU covers (and some think easily).

SMU runs the ball very well, and Jennings has been great for them. Their rush D has also been decent but I do think they can be thrown on. One interesting thing is Jennings is very good against man coverage but struggles some against zone - 12.1 yards per attempt, five TDs, one INT vs zone 8.6 yards per attempt, four TDs, four INTs. He also seems to struggle some against pressure (he at least did against Duke) and he might not be 100%.

I know some are starting to get down on the offense, after the past two weeks. But really they were good against UNC and the Cuse game was just weird for them and they actually did fine when they had the ball, they just didn't have it alot. And of course, Pitt's D has been really turning it on and have played really really well the past two weeks.

So....with all that said, Pitt really has something going this year, and I think Narduzzi is really going to have them playing very well with a huge chip on their shoulder this week.

I think the offense plays very well, Eli has his best game since UNC, gets back to throwing well - over 300 yards and 3 TDs. I think the run game will hit on a couple big runs too. Mumpfield has a big game too.

The D continues their strong play and holds up against the run for the most part - SMU will break off some runs, burlt Pitt will do enough against the run. I think they get a lot of pressure on Jennings and force a mistake or two (not 5 or 3 picks 6s though! Haha). They might even force Jennings out of the game, I think they hit him alot.

So, with all that....I say Pitt 38 SMU 30 and unbelievably Pitt starts the year out 8-0. After we enjoy this win for about 24 hours (who am I kidding, probably less than that!) we all start to worry about a massive letdown/lookahead game against UVA, but let's worry about that next week.

Let's Go Pitt!

Pitt - Virginia: A Few Final Stats

Virginia was steamrolled.....here's the proof...

  • An easy sweep....3 sets to 0.....Pitt won each set by an average score of 25 - 11.....a 14 point difference per set.....amazing
  • Pitt hitting % .393.....Virginia - .011
  • Points/set......Pitt 18.3.....Virginia 10.0
  • Points/set given back due to errors....Pitt 3.0.....Virginia 9.3
  • Scoring 10 pts/set and giving back 9.3 means you have no chance whatsoever in winning a set in a million years!
  • Total domination by Pitt in every aspect of the match
  • Everyone on the Pitt team played well but Stafford stood out in particular....she hit .455%....11 kills....only 1 error....2 blocks....8 digs....13 points
This was as dominating a performance as any we've seen all season.....Virginia is not a bad team (17 - 4 record before tonight). They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.....namely facing Pitt playing at their very best. I wonder if Virginia Tech was watching.....the next to the last place team in the ACC. If Pitt plays this well on Sunday they may be arrested for assault and battery! Lord Have Mercy!

Incentive-based NIL

My biggest takeaway from the Narduzzi interview is that Pitt/Alliance 411 has adopted an incentive-based NIL program. The better you play, and presumably the more the team wins, the more $$$ you get from A412 at the end of the season.

If I’m understanding the new approach correctly, that would mean that some Alliance 412 donors are donating, or “pledging” $$$ to cover the incentive-achieving payouts for successful guys on this successful team.

I think approach makes it much more attractive for donors, especially folks who have been interested but wary of not getting any “ROI” for their $.

Can anyone confirm how the new system works?

It’s not even Saturday, and…

It feels like an eternity just getting to kickoff for this game. Tomorrow is gonna feel like running a marathon just getting to 8 p.m.

So while we wait, let’s do a temperature check. How’s everybody feeling about tomorrow’s game?

Rate your confidence level on a scale of 1-10.

I’ll go first… I’m a solid 6-7. I think we’re legitimately good and probably have better depth and more talent across the board when you go position by position. But… The stupid betting line has me spooked, and their QB worries me quite a bit.
