are we in?

from the ACC:
"With the win, Virginia is the ACC’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament, which begins Thursday at campus sites. The full field of 48 will be announced at 1 p.m. Monday on NCAA.com"

Yes. I am predicting we host WVU, who won the MAC surprisingly as the 6 seed. I thought Akron would win that but they lost to BGSU in the semis. Denver did end up getting the auto bid out of the Summit so that will help us.

What kind of a seeding matchup would that be? Do you think pitt is in comfortably?

Soccer can be a brutal game. BGSU was throttled by Akron, yet was able to escape with a 1-0 win. First time in 17 years Akron will miss the tourney.

I don't think they necessarily seed anybody besides the Top 16. I am not 100% sure how it all works but I think they try to regionalize it as much as they can. Now, I doubt they'd match up 2 teams who just missed out on the national seeds but you know.

WVU @ Pitt seems like an obvious matchup. Pitt's RPI is 31. WVU is 75. So maybe like a 5/12, 6/11 matchup? WVU did dominate us last year at their place though. They have a great coach and nice program. A FR from Norwin scored against us last year and I was thinking I doubt Vidovich even looked at him.

And yes, I think we are comfortably in.

I also think we’re definitely in and going to host. I think it’ll probably be WVU as well. St Francis lost to FDU in the NEC finals which I thought may be the other possible opponent

I think we are in, but one other thing to consider is that a lot of really crappy teams besides West Virginia won their conference tournaments, so it's probably going to be closer than maybe we thought. In fact it might be such that we get one of the last at large bids and yet still get a first round home game because of how many lower ranked teams made the field.

While we may be one of the "last teams in," I don't believe it we are in jeopardy of missing out. A quick look at the resumes and I dont see any way we miss, but sure, we could be one of the last teams in because someone has to be. And yes, because there were 15 teams with RPIs lower than us that gotnauto bids, we are a pretty safe bet to host.

I am more interested to see who we get in the 2nd Round if we win. I assume we wont get an ACC team so it would have to be one of the following based on geography.

Georgetown
New Hampshire
Marshall
Indiana
St. John's
Providence

Pitt/WVU going to Marshall makes all the sense in the world and that would be a fantastic draw. If there were oddsmakers, I would say Pitt would be favored over Marshall

I guess UVA counts as one of the lower ranked teams that won its conference tournament, although #2 nationally beating #1 nationally hardly counts as an upset.

I thought Clemson was in control, and all of a sudden, the roof collapsed on them. First, a substitute gets the first goal of his career; then UVA scores thanks to the ref missing a blatant foul by a UVA midfielder which allowed him to make the pass resulting in the second goal. Then, a penalty in the area for goal number 3. And all within a very short timespan. It was brutal to watch (and I was rooting for UVA).

I scored the only point of my fleeting Pitt soccer career against WVU in an exhibition match played at Forbes Field, so playing them always brings back good memories. My continued appreciation to Sheldon Zvoma, wherever you may now be, for making it look like I actually was trying to cross the ball for you.

No one considers Virginia a lower ranked team as far as getting in the tournament goes. I'm taking about schools like West Virginia, who had no chance at all to make the tournament as an at large but won their conference championship, so now they are in. Loyola Chicago is another school like that. Coastal Carolina would be another.

I'm not sure why you'd think Pitt would be such a big favorite over a team with several wins against teams with better RPIs than us.

Its Lehigh at home on Thursday. We play Georgetown if we win. Not excited about playing the #3 overall seed. I thought it would have made more sense if we drew Marshall in Round 2. However, this Pitt team is obviously well-drilled having come out of the brutal ACC

Exactly. This team beat virginia and played close to even with Clemson at their place. Georgetown is right in our wheelhouse.

I only saw the firs half of the Clemson game, but it was far from even and we were lucky to be down 1-0 at the half. Question: Did we play better in the second half? I had to miss the second half and forgot to tape it so I have no clue how we played.

Yeah. The first half was an absolute beat down. But Pitt flipped it the 2nd half and had the better of the play. Statistically we didn’t pull even for the game, but we almost did.

Our Coach is a genius.

Thanks for the info...really excited about where the program is going!

7pm ughh... any chance they move the hoops game back an hour as to not directly conflict with NCAA soccer?

Record 10 ACC teams get bids.... that’s with a 48 team field and only 12 ACC schools fielding men's soccer teams. That's 9 of 24 at-large bids. The ACC has had the most teams in the tournament for 7 straight years. 3 of the top 4 seeds went to the ACC. That is impressive.

That would make too much sense. They should start the soccer game at 5:30, basketball game at 7:30 and let anyone into the basketball game with a soccer ticket.
Must be some kind of NCAA controlled thing, because all games that night in the tourney start at 7 PM

No, they don't. The New Hampshire - Fairleigh Dickinson game starts at 6:00. The Butler - West Virginia game starts at 6:00. The Louisville - South Florida game starts at 7:30. And for whatever reason it does not appear that the Boston College - Yale game has a start time yet.

This is what I looked at http://theacc.com/news/2019/11/18/record-10-acc-teams-earn-spots-in-ncaa-mens-soccer-tournament.aspx and saw all games starting at 7 that night, all ACC games looked like they were starting at 7, but now I missed the UL game at 7:30. I did a quick and incorrect glance/assumption that this was all the games that night. Guess I'd better get an eye check. Or maybe I was just trying to prove SMF wrong in his constant throwing stuff against the wall, haha :)

I dont know what sense it makes to start it at the exact same time as the basketball game. The same thing was done last year when the volleyball team went head to head vs the City Game and then the ACCCG. I mean even if they started the soccer game at 6, that would be helpful. I realize the fanbase for Pitt soccer is miniscule but its a big game and a feel good story, you'd think they'd want to promote it. And speaking of that, I cant even buy tickets for it. Its either sold out or the site is down.

It wouldn't surprise me if there were as many people at the soccer game on Thursday as were at the basketball game tonight.

Yea, depending on the weather, there may be more at the soccer game. I could see there being 2000 at soccer and not that many at basketball. I didn't go to the basketball game last night, but from TV, there didn't seem be 2000 there.

Even if they had to keep the untelevised basketball game at 7, would it have been that crazy to start the soccer game even at 8:00? Or 6:00? I'm skipping basketball for soccer though.
