13 Year Anniversary

Team was good enough for a title, man. Stinks.
Just horrifically bad luck to one, match up against Nova who generally had their number, and two, have nova shoot an asinine FR percentage.

Pitt played a good game against Nova, which is the real shame of it.

Flr that matter they also played a really good game against butler. Shelvin Mack just ended up playing the game of his life.

Just look at Purdue and how difficult it is for them to get over the hump.

LOL! you can’t be serious. You wanted Dixon gone but you’re cool with painter?

You’re a troll
I have said several times that I didn't want Dixon gone.

Painter's last 5 years: 119-50 overall, 67-30 Conference record, Played in 2 Big 10 Tourney Championship games, 4 NCAAT appearances with 2 Sweet 16s and 1 Elite 8.

Dixon's last 5 years at Pitt: 112-63 overall, 45-45 Conference record, Made one Conference Tourney semi-final game, 3 NCAAT appearances, made it to the round of 32 once.

You don't see a difference? There is a huge difference in conference results and post-season success. And no doubt, I bet a lot of Purdue fans are frustrated & pissed today.

Nova was like 22-23 FT’s that night. To this day, still such a great FT team. Wish Pitt could have better numbers.

Love that YouTube channel. They do a great job archiving past Pitt football/basketball games. I believe someone on here runs the account, no?
I went down a real rabbit hole checking out a bunch of random games last weekend from that channel. I love how it’s the full original broadcasts complete with commercial breaks.

My favorite was a football broadcast at Pitt Stadium. I forget which one it was (might’ve been a late 80s against Miami), but it showed an in-game feature of the old Pitt Pavilion tucked inside the stadium. You wouldn’t find that on a two-minute highlight reel!

I think the 2010-11 team was better built for a title run. I think they were deeper and more versatile than the 09 team. There was no UNC, that was head & shoulders above the field to go through in the 2011 tourney..

Painter
I get his point.

But seriously, if Painter's last 5 years was a carbon copy of Jamie's, I think they would make a change.
Painter had a 3 or 4 year stretch very similar to Jamie’s last 5, and Purdue stayed the course, while Pitt couldn’t wait to get rid of Dixon

you’re a troll.

Well-
Good enough for a final four appearance
would have met unc there - who was a juggernaut that year .

Looking back at the historical numbers on Pomeroy indicate that we would have been about a 2-1/2 point underdog. So not quite a 60-40 game in Carolina's favor.

But on the other hand, Carolina was on a heater in the NCAA tournament. They pretty much just hammered everyone. That was maybe their best six game stretch of the year. Radford by 43, LSU by 14, Gonzaga by 21, Oklahoma by 12, Villanova by 14 and Michigan State by 17.

I do think that Blair would have been the toughest matchup hansbourgh would have faced though

Pitt struggled mightily for each tournament win leading up to the Elite 8. (ETSU, OKLAHOMA STATE, XAVIER) It's hard to see that Pitt team hanging with that UNC team. That Tarheel had so many guys who could score.

My god you are the king of awful takes. Virginia won it all in 2019 and was down by double digits in the first game, struggled with 12 seed Oregon state in the sweet 16, beat Purdue in OT in the elite eight, and then needed a could minor miracles in the final four and finals.

Playing close games in the tournament where after the first round you’re likely playing top 25 teams just about every game is it an indication you can’t win the next game.

For starters, that UVA team was flat out better than the 2009 Pitt team. Also, there was no team like Carolina that was head & shoulders above the field. 2019 was pretty much a wide open field. Several teams had a legit crack at it. Pitt wasn't good enough to win

That was a very good Pitt team, but they weren't built to go all the way, imo. I think the 2011 team had a legit chance to pull it off.

And FWIW, you could probably call me a UVA hoops fan. I live in VA & go to several of their games every year. I was actually in Charlottesville for the Pitt game the night before the ACC Championship game. If Okeke hadn't gotten hurt, no way UVA beats Auburn. And fwiw, it was an obvious double dribble by Ty Jerome & no way in hell was Kyle Guy fouled on that 3 pt attempt.

And the play that sent the Purdue game in OT is one of the most insane things I've ever seen in the history of the tourney. The stars aligned for that team. No doubt about it.
