So as of right now it seems like Morrisey (obviously), Hargrove and Huey will be 3 of the starters on the O-line. Is anyone else concerned about the depth Pitt has to replace the other two positions? Another Grad Transfer maybe?

I would say Ford and VanLynn would be the other 2 starters in addition to the 3 you listed. I would expect VanLynn to add weight like O’Neill did and move to OT. Yes, I would add a Grad Transfer.

I think we'll see one Grad transfer brought in, possibly even two. I also think Jerry Drake gets one of the tackle spots next season, he redshirted his first year and had another year of learning and developing this season, I think he has a good chance to be a really good player under Borbely.

Huey
Hargrove
Morrissey
Ford
Van Lynn / Drake
There is not a lot of depth. Only two low rated freshman recruits.
The likely two deep:

Morrissey - Drexel
Hargrove - Zubovic
Ford - Kradel
Hough - Drake
Vanlynn - Warren

C.Brown ????

Huey
Hargrove
Morrissey
Ford
Van Lynn / Drake
I agree that Huoy, Morrissey, and Hargrove (not sure hed be a tackle though) are locks to be the starters.

If Im not mistaken I thought Huoy got some PT at RT this year so it appears that hed be one of the tackles.

THe rest of the spots will be battles among Kradel, Drexel, Zubovic, Drake, Ford and Brown, and Warren.

On paper this looks like the worst Oline we've put together in a while. We're going to see what type of OL scouting/development chops Narduzzi and staff have next season.

Are you saying everything turned out fine or are you saying different year, same problems?
The line was pretty impressive until Morrissey got hurt on that superfluous and ridiculous call by Watson.

That is the same thing people said coming into this year.

What's your point? The offensive line was horrendous this season outside of being able to block the world-beaters of Virginia and Duke.

PITT may have had the worst pass protection in all of college football in 2018. Narduzzi better hope some of Chryst's OL magically appear to make him look better than he is.

A lot of the pass protection problems were due to scheme. Tackles got absolutely no help. Lone back was almost never Aston. Almost always took the first inside rusher to gain ground. Never any help on the edge. No plays called to take advantage of edge rushers.

So all of the roll-outs plays and holding the TE in to block were just for kicks and giggles?

The number of penalties by the line and tackles for a loss was pretty impressive for a school that still managed to run the ball as well as Pitt did.
Those two phanthom holding calls on the other side of the play that negated TDs are clear examples of that.

Holding the TE in to block? What else was he going to do?

The stupid roll outs were all Watson trying to protect (not pass protect) a QB that did not need it.

What would Pitt's offense scheme be described as? We certainly do not run a pro style offense with pro style routes or pass blocking schemes.

A large part of the offenses failings had to do with getting the QB out of the pocket so that he could stay upright long enough for the WR's to run a pattern or give him the chance to run. You don't really think the OC chose to cut the field in half because he thought he was fooling anyone, did you? So far as the TE's, yeah, what else was he going to do? There are literally schools that line up five wide on just about every play and score tons of points. Pitt struggled at times with a RB and a TE in pass pro to get the ball off.

Did you see what UNC did to us? Bubble screens and passes to the flat. Quick slants. Shovel passes. Long passes on first down or third and one. There are other ways to pass the ball that don't require lots of time to make a throw. What Watson relied on was offensive malpractice.

I don't disagree with that. The problem is that you need to throw into traffic on those kinds of plays. I think that's an indictment of his confidence in Pickett. But I won't make apologies for Watson. He's not good.

The OLINE was not good at pass blocking by any measure but they also were not nearly as bad as some make them out to be. OL pass blocking can be made to look a whole lot better or worse by the QB play and play calling. If you have a QB with happy feet who breaks the pocket at even the slightest sign of pressure it makes the OL look bad. The converse is true. If your play calling does not keep the DL off balance, it makes rushing the passer much easier.

Also given most of the guys competing for spots will just be in the second or third year of college ball, its hard to say just how good they will or wont be. Unless your recruiting 5 star kids, OL take time to develop. There are some kids on the roster who had good offer lists.

Wrong again....They were playing 3 people at new positions for the first time.

100% agree that Pitt hasn't developed their Oline depth. That said, they fired the guy they blamed for that last year.

Well, we know it's not because Pickett threw for 400 yards and three TD's.

That people continue to note this proves that the depth was/is garbage to the extreme, if it is making people crazy months later that a coach merely called a play to try to score points and win a game, and an injury occurred randomly and freakily .

Just take knees and lose 81-0 every week. Nobody gets hurt that way. Well, i take it back, our QB would probably hurt his knee...

Perhaps just Coach-speak, but I heard Coach Borbely bragging on freshman Kenny Rainey in an interview. Kenny R. Is a walk-on from Aliquippa and is listed as 6-3 and 330.

Sounds like a guard candidate.

Go Pitt.

I'm actually not too worried about the line. We all worried about the line this year with the new faces. I think our O-line coach has these kids who hasn't played much coached up well waiting thier turn. I consider VanLynn a starter coming back I know it's d iffrent blocking from TE to line, but putting someone in thier ass is putting someone on thier ass.
