It is a hard pill to swallow. A team that showed a will to win and a meshing of abilities turned into a team that got down on itself and used the same players to run into the same wall.
My take on Jeff Capel the coach is virtually identical to my take on PN the coach. Their fatal flaw is their inability to face their bad habits each falls into when adversity hits.
If I had the time, I would track Capels record as he shrunk the bench. By limiting bench use he engages is conduct that simultaneously erodes team confidence while exhausting the few who play.
Fewer players playing more minutes over a long period of time. He treats a marathon like a sprint.
I felt our bench stopped gaining right around the time we peaked.
It was the blowout loss to Duke from which Capel withdrew and never recovered.
I don’t think he has earned the right to continue as HC.
But finances probably dictate otherwise. I hope the AD has control over the assistant coaches. Someone on that bench needs to disagree with Capel

I agree with everything you said. Capel makes zero adjustments. It's really crazy. Teams just packed the paint and dared Pitt to make enough 3s to beat them. Pitt didn't have a Hinson this year. Another poster said it correctly, no matter the opponent it was like watching the same game over and over for the last 2 months. That's on Capel. It's not working, make an adjustment. The failure to utilize the bench is very strange. The starters weren't playing well. Capel is not a good coach. I can't remember the last time I watched a game and said that was a really nice we ran out of a timeout.

We ran a nice play off an OB yesterday and scored but of course it was a designed play to get it into Corhen. Capel loves that dude. Can't get him enough touches.

Well, despite his bad hands and his inability to rebound or defend, Cam can score. His shooting percentage is quite remarkable - at over 63%. I realize that it's hard to fathom, but if he doesn't turn the ball over before getting his shot off, he's been, the best offensive option we've had this season. I do think Capel was often trying to run the offense thru Cam, but I'm not sure how much the guards warmed up to doing so.

Too bad there wasn't a complementary player to Corhen in the paint that could rebound and defend better than he. That still wouldn't account for Cam's inability to catch the ball consistently and turn the ball over. But you're right, the dude can score

Maybe my biggest disappointment this year was that Kante wasn't nearly as ready to play as I thought he would be. I expected him to start at the 5 with Corhen splitting time at the 4 with GDG.

With the exception of the Ohio State game, Kante was pretty "green" looking to me. He, the twins, and Corhen. 4 players @ or taller than 6'10". It boggles the mind sometimes to think that these "stilts" couldn't be developed into more rounded players. I seem to recall a quote from a BB coach that goes something like, "you can't teach height"

Corheh can only be of use in a double big lineup. Like when we played Blair and Biggs. As crazy it sounds, maybe we go to the FF if we have Corhen instead of Biggs because if Corhen catches it, he can score. Or like when we had Gray/Kendall. His rebounding is so bad that you can't rely on him to be even your 2nd rebounder, let alone your first. You want your C to be your best rebounder and post defender. Then maybe your SF is the 2nd best rebounder. Then Corhen.
