4 Pat Signals

Anyone have a breakdown on today's recruits? I saw the list of visitors this weekend, just don't know much about the players.

Rated higher coming out of hs?
Who gives a crap ?

??? Ummm... this very site youre on?

What kinda dumb statement is that? who gives a crap? I mean, it is one of the biggest metrics on here. I guess you could also go by his enormous advantage in playing time and stats? The fact he was a starting QB at one of the top schools in the country and then a starter at BC when healthy vs a kid who was 3rd team at a middling big 10 school?

So, please go on. What metric do you give a crap about? Tell me why he is loads better than Jurkovec

Tell me why a twice transfered qb who’s gotten worse each season because he claims offers 6 years ago .

Slovis was actually an all conference player in college .
Phil isn’t very good
If he as from say New York nobody would give a crap about him

My guess is you'll be surprised. I'm pretty confident that he's better than Slovis for this team. Better runner, better play action, better pocket presence, better vision, more moxie. Just not a pretty thrower of the football.

Hope you’re right - but his stats have declined and his teams have been pretty meh

He has gotten better. He trew 17 tds with 5 ints and over 60% completion with a crap line.

He is a better player than Slovis in my opinion, which means nothing. But, we shall see. Slovis set a pretty low bar

Turns out -
Slovis isn’t very good
But has thrown for about 14k yards and 10 TDs vs 4 ints which is pretty pedestrian

But better than the now benched Phil who has 818 yards , 6 TDs and 3 INTs

Phil is what he’s always been , at his best a mediocre QB who has always been inaccurate

He's always had some problems with accuracy, but he's a shell of what he was back in 2020.

Accuracy issues are one thing, but some of his throws this year almost seem as if he has no control of how the ball comes out of his hand. It's really sad to watch.

Yeah, and he got benched because his arm is shot. Glad you knew that.

Feel better?

I have no clue, but it's significantly worse than when Pitt played him at BC and even in high school.
He’s a career sub 50% QB
He is what he’s always been
He was inaccurate in hs , too
His ranking was solely because of his size and legs .
Not because of actual talent

He sucked before he got to pitt , and he single handidly lost every game as our starter .
You were delusional .
I wasn’t

He's been noteworthy bad since at least 2021 (I think he was bad before that, but maybe not quite as bad). I remarked at the time that I had never seen a QB throw a worse ball. I watched them play BC that year, and he was missing by units of measurement one would think would be more apt for estimating where asteroids might hit.

It's abundantly clear that he hasn't improved one bit since then, which makes it remarkable that a guy making $5M/year could possibly think it might be a good idea to bring him in to start this season. Like I'm not being dramatic... it's actually amazing that professionals at this level couldn't discern how bad he is.

Yeah, you're being a little dramatic. It's really not amazing at all. Phil knew the offense & they didn't have anyone else. They just wanted him to be a little more what he was in the first half against UNC & maybe the 2nd half against Cincinnati instead of what he was at WVU & VaTech. Good chance the guy making $5 mil also thought his defense would perform a helluva lot better than it did against UC & VaTech.

Relationships also play a part. Cigs & Jurk had a decent year in 2020 & he probably thought he could work with him. Same reason Chaney brought Peterman to Pitt, despite the fact that Nate was a spectacular failure at Tennessee. In fact, Jurk was a helluva lot better this year at Pitt than Nate Peterman was at Tennessee. That's NOT hyperbole.

Regardless, they have moved on. Let's hope Veilleux can continue to make progress.

I can agree with the first paragraph. Kind of off the rails with the 2nd. Was Phil a spectacular failure at ND?

No, he's the worst starting quarterback I have ever seen at this level, with the possible exception of a spot-starting backup (probably after multiple injuries). If you think he went the entire Spring and Summer looking like the UNC version of himself, I would beg to differ. I'm not being dramatic at all. To actually think he was the answer this season is a huge blackmark on any coach's resume. It tells me they are beyond clueless at evaluating the most important position on the field. Fans were even commenting on how wobbly the passes looked in the few practice clips they posted on social media. It's beyond comprehension that they made him the guy.

I've seen much worse.

I don't think anybody thought he was the answer. They just thought they could get by with him until they had someone who was the answer.

Your 20116 starting QB at Pitt
Peterman
