And I think that was right.
Have to admit I was wrong. Best attended Pitt game for a non name opener in years
The attendance was great. Too bad the first half was not entertaining,

Thank you students for showing up.

Game thoughts - Band is a lot better. Dance team appears to have lost a lot of weight. All hot.

Defense was close to very good.
Offense - I hope they were holding back. O line not as advertised.

Non of this matters.

Beat the Pedophiles.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!!

I estimated between 44K and 48K so yea, that might be accurate.

Of course, only 35K Pitt fans will show up next week to see them play their hated rival for the 1st time in 16 years. Of course I'm kidding as that would make no sense.

PSU, being very geneous, could possibly top out at 20K but probably closer to 15K. Will seem like many more as visiting crowds often do.

West side of the stadium was pretty full even in the upper deck. A lot of people took in the game from the club section and Great Hall. 50k is probably about right when you consider Heinz is now at about 70k.

I thought the same thing. The home side was really full. If I had seats on the other side I would have had to sit inside. It was pretty hot in the sun yesterday.

I sit on away side. I am sunburned pretty bad. The same thing happened last year. I bet half of my row took most of the game inside because of the heat. Most did not come back after halftime. Additionally it was annoying but because of beer runs, lots of ups and downs for beer and bathroom breaks. I would have said roughly 45000 from my perspective yesterday but if pitt says 50000 I would buy that total.

Sun was hotter than I thought, I ended up moving up. Wearing hat and sun screen next week. I guesstimated 45K but that's a good number, there were entire rows with 1 or 2 people sitting in them which I guess will be filled with Nitters next week.

My father is a big Pitt fan even at 70 and even he decided to move inside the club yesterday in the AC and out of the sun. While the rest of us stayed out in it, I certainly cannot blame anyone for moving in. That sun was definitely brutal for anyone now sitting on the West side of the stadium.

Once again. Pitt now can't change the turnstile count so please stop commenting high or low the number. It's the same as the Steelers. Not sold, Entered.

I don't think there were any were near 50,000 people at yesterday's game. However, I can't prove that and I'm not interested in arguing about it.

Still, if I had to guess I would say there were approximately 35,000 fans the game.

If there really were 50,000 people at that game and it still looked that empty then we really do need to seriously consider putting up tarps or paying the Steelers millions of dollars for the privilege to swap out all of the gold seats for gray or dark blue seats.

The home atmosphere for most Pitt football games is absolutely horrendous. Unfortunately, yesterday was no exception.

I think 50K is pretty accurate although I would have said around 45K. FWIW, if the actual crowd WAS 45K, I think they would have announced 50K so its hard to tell but I can believe 50K.

The empty yellow just sticks out so bad. You can count every empty seat. Plus, there are seatbacks which makes them stick out more. If you are at Penn State and the 4 people next to you dont show up, everybody slides down to take their seats to give them more room. Its why Beaver Stadium would loom completely full even if there were only 75K there.

One thing about the game atmosphere, is that 2/3 of the people are on the HOME side of the stadium. It is REALLY glaring---Because of folks requesting to sit behind Pitt, that puts many many more people in both the lower bowl, and even more noticeably, the upper deck. Unfortunately, the tv angle looks right at the visitor side, so it is night and day. I truly believe that when the most people were in there, think late 1st quarter until halftime, there were probably 40-42k actually IN the stadium. Many tend to hide underneath out of the sun, At one point, in the 2nd quarter, there were twice as many people watching from inside the West Club than out in their seats..

It's a fact. Pitt doesn't announce their own attendance. Steve P may have but it won't happen now. That's a fact.

There's 5000-10000 there but not in their seats at any given moment. Hot days like Saturday- the great hall is packed with people getting out of the sun. Same with the folks in the club.

Sean did you consider that maybe 12,000 of the 35,000 PSU fans that bought Pitt season tickets were at the Pitt/Nova game so we really had 39,000 fans at game and not 51,000?

35,000 LOL!!! Looks like you really took advantage of the new beer sales policy. Hopefully you did not drive home!

Yeah, I guess so.

Apparently there were 50,000 + people there yesterday. Just many of them were dressed in yellow to match the seats.

As I said earlier, if there were 50,000 people at the game yesterday (there weren't) then we definitely need to look into tarping off the end zones and portions of the upper deck on the sidelines.

If we're selling that many seats and that stadium STILL looks that empty, then we have real problems.

I said I thought 45,000 yesterday , and Pitt fans went at me like I was Paterno or Sandusky lol

Don't be so suborn Yinzer! There were significantly more people there than your guess. 35,000? I walked over to see what our side looked like at the end of the 1st quarter. Basically full. My guess at that point was 48,000 people. Not a big deal and I know how awful you think it is to go to a home Pitt game.

don't forget about the 46 people that logged onto the website to watch the game... Thank god for the acc network..

Just wondering, what's Penn State's problem with attendance? It seems like that's all they talk about and is the biggest convo topic between Pitt/PSU, ahead of talking actual football

It most certainly is not a fact. If Pitt doesn't announce the attendance just who exactly is it that you think does announce it? The Easter Bunny? The Tooth Fairy?

As a Steelers season-ticket holder, it looked like a preseason crowd, which usually has around 20,000 empty seats, except the home side was pretty full. The 50,000 number seemed accurate and anyone saying anything less than 45k is looking for a reaction.

I think at this point I am probably known among those who pay attention to these discussions as something of an "attendance curmudgeon" and even I thought the crowd was around 45,000.

Why does attendance matter? Attendance is never going to be a point of pride for a big city school and pro sports town. Even if the attendance was 60,000, that number would be an embarassment for most college blue bloods.

You're absolutely out of your mind and have abandoned any credibility for attendance estimates.

Oh, no you di'n't. Nobody but nobody questions my attendance estimation prowess.

Seriously, if you want to say there were 50,000 people there or 130,000 people there, that's cool by me.

I'm saying there was nowhere near 50,000 people at that game on Saturday. Or if they were, they were never in their seats.

My seats are right on the 50 yard line and I have a great view of the entire stadium. The visitors section was half empty and the upper deck of the north end zone was mostly empty.

Seriously, it's time to think about tarps.

I'm going to start taking pictures of the stadium at the end of the first-quarter every week because this argument is stupid and dishonest.

How could that be? I mean the Branch Campus Dummies clearly stated they bought 50,000 tickets to see their beloved Lions. Did Penn State increase their enrollment at their 50 Branch Campuses to 130,000 "Students"?
