50,149 was recorded attendance

Oh, no you di'n't. Nobody but nobody questions my attendance estimation prowess.

Seriously, if you want to say there were 50,000 people there or 130,000 people there, that's cool by me.

I'm saying there was nowhere near 50,000 people at that game on Saturday. Or if they were, they were never in their seats.

My seats are right on the 50 yard line and I have a great view of the entire stadium. The visitors section was half empty and the upper deck of the north end zone was mostly empty.

Seriously, it's time to think about tarps.

I'm going to start taking pictures of the stadium at the end of the first-quarter every week because this argument is stupid and dishonest.

No reasonable person could think it was less than 45K. Yes, I'm calling you unreasonable, or the worst attendance estimator in message board history, especially considering your ongoing defense of your ridiculous assertions. Try walking around the stadium sometime.

At kick I called 48K, and I considered that a little conservative. My seats are on the 45 yard line visitors side. Home side full, upper decks were more full than any game last year except ND, students filled a large chunk of the upper overflow, both endzones were full. Our section emptied quite a bit by half because of the sun. You seriously underestimate the numbers milling around in the clubs and Great Hall.

Dance team appears to have lost a lot of weight. All hot.

What? You're supposed to want the diversity of FAT CHICKS out on the field! Now you are body shaming the former FAT PIG dance team members and they'll have to seek a "safe space" on campus so as not to impact their self esteem.

To to be totally honest, I thought it was a very nice crowd. Pretty scattered about the upper deck too. I agree in that I haven't seen the home section that full since the ND last season. 50K seems on the nose. Folks have to remember that Heinz fits nearly 70K now. So, you know, 50K is a lot but there are still 20K missing.

This. Plus, it's going to look a little bit more empty since there's more seat space compared to stadiums with bleacher seating since it's an NFL stadium.

I can remember the old days when Denny Onkontz and Jack Ham would come into Pittsburgh against some really bad Pitt teams and Pitt field would be sold out. I am not sure what has happened to the Pitt fanbase but it is disappointing for sure.

I mean, it's not as bad as folks make it out to be. Pitt pretty much mirrors the attendance of other urban schools. And, I mean, when playing PSU, it's always sold out. As it is this season and will be again in a few years. Not to mention, the season's you're referring to the games were likely at Pitt Stadium with a capacity of just over 55K instead of Heinz which is just under 70K.

Shhhhhhh.
( several people in my section commented on it AND how the band sounded better - I would say it was the beer but I didn't drink before or during the game)

Not that it matters , but the Dance team, golden girls , and cheerleaders have always had weight requirements at least going back to the 1990s.

I don't think there were any were near 50,000 people at yesterday's game. However, I can't prove that and I'm not interested in arguing about it.

Still, if I had to guess I would say there were approximately 35,000 fans the game.

If there really were 50,000 people at that game and it still looked that empty then we really do need to seriously consider putting up tarps or paying the Steelers millions of dollars for the privilege to swap out all of the gold seats for gray or dark blue seats.

The home atmosphere for most Pitt football games is absolutely horrendous. Unfortunately, yesterday was no exception.
I've been going to games do 50 years and in my opinion there was easily 50k there. I do agree that that the home atmosphere is bad. I don't have the answers but they should try doing things inside the stadium to make it exciting and fun. One it will get people inside earlier and two keep them there.

That's perfectly fine. You can call me whatever you want to call me. I'm saying that no honest person could say that there were more than 40,000 people at that game.

And no, I'm not necessarily calling you dishonest because I don't call complete strangers names.

I guess I'll just have to take pictures every week to disprove some of these absurdly inflated crowd estimates.

That's fine. It's kind of silly but it's fine.

It's unfortunate that Pitt plays in a bigger stadium than it needs.

The blowback is that when they do draw a "respectable" crowd, it looks less than reported because of the number of seats that remain unfilled -- and we end-up having ridiculous discussions about it.

This is a 2nd quarter photo from Cardiac Hill blog of 'Nova Game... 50k in seems fair, in my opinion (73% full)... no way it was only 30-35K (44%-51%) full, even if the visitor upper deck was lighter than the home side. Visitor lower bowl, where I sit, seemed just as full as the home side. This photo doesn't even capture the student section that was packed.

Actually, calling everyone else who posted in this thread "dishonest" is exactly what you've done, no matter how you try to parse words.

You either majorly suck at estimating crowds or are not being honest yourself. Since you insist you don't care but keep arguing anyway, perhaps it is just intractable pride.

There were probably 8k students alone. So you are looking at crowd of, max, 27k in that photo, according to the one who claims sole de facto honesty for this thread.

It goes directly from ticket office computer. Anyone can find out. Pitt doesn't own Heinz.

Pitt has never owned Heinz. There has always been an accurate number available to people with proper access. It is still none the less a fact that Steve Pederson made up and announced whatever attendance number he wanted for years. The notion that it would somehow be impossible for Pitt to still be doing that is laughable.

All their crowds are respectable, playing in a major league sports town, they are always above 40000/game on average.
