What's interesting about this is how simple it is (one page), that it was a 3-year contract for $7K a year (that is $100,564 per year in CPI adjusted 2016 dollars), and that it was signed a year before he was to start coaching (Sutherland coached Lafayette in 1923 and Pop Warner coached Pitt in 1923, finishing out his contract, despite having also signed a contract to move to Stanford the following season).
Great photo of Walt! Must have been the game where we beat Philip Rivers as the NCS QB. Fun game. Also, 15 years ago today, Pitt destroyed NC State 34-19 in the Tangerine Bowl. Antonio Bryant is named MVP.

By the end of the year that was a very good team. Priestly really came on the last part of the year. Enjoyed being at the Tangerine Bowl and in Morgantown for Pitt's big win against WVU at the end of the year. As well as Tyree Young played in the bowl, it was hugely disappointing when he was ineligible the following year.
As well as Pitt played at the end of the year, they played that badly early in the year when they ran the spread-saw them get their tails beat in a listless performance at BC. Wlat...a good guy but to this day an enigma as a HC.
you are right...forgot about that.Del, Young played in 2002 but had his season cut short versus Texas A&M when two Aggie linemen cheap shot him as he was unblockable up to that point of the game. I was so disappointed that Walt didn't call out the Aggies at his weekly press conference.
I believe Pitt had a 7-0 record when Young started and finished the game -- the final six in 2001 and the first game in 2002.
