After watching tonight's frustrating Pitt game, I watched some Bball on the ESPN stations.
There were a number of ACC Big 10 challenge games. Now, I'm not talking Duke and NC,
but instead Wake, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech etc. I hope their coaches show us some mercy because the Virginia Tech's of the world look like pros next to us.

Buzz is far superior to Stallings.

I think our timing was unfortunate. But we are Pitt so...

When Buzz was at Marquette, and Jamie was struggling here, We were still not far removed from #1 seeds and still had a "perceived" waiting list for season tix. I think Buzz would have come here. It was a much better program. At least it was on the court and inside the arena. As far as donor support and athletic support, VT is probably a better job.

I can't remember the timing, but if we would have let Jamie walk after we lost in Salt Lake City and he and his agent were flirting with another job, a guy like Buzz would have been the best thing ever for this program. It just wasn't in the cards unfortunately. In hindsight, our program went into hospice that day.

You don't let Jamie walk to hire Buzz Williams. Honestly.

You let Jamie walk to hire Sean Miller, Mark Few, Greg Marshall, Shaka Smart, and maybe a few others.

You certainly don't let him walk to do a general coaching search

I disagree. I think very highly of Buzz. He's also a better human than some of those guys you mentioned.

downgrade?? Look at where we are!

Additionally, Buzz was beating Jamie on the floor with a team filled with JUCO guys. So whatever holes were here, he would have filled effectively and then put together respectable recruiting classes. This program would be one capable of tourney runs.

Just my opinion. And a moot one at that.

You’re talking about 5 years ago right? We were two years from a freaking big east title and number one seed and you wanted to let Dixon walk or push him out for buzz Williams????
Hindsight my friend. I believe I stated that.

That isn’t how it works.
Someone said that Buzz was better than Stallings. My original point was that the timing wasn't right for us. It never is. Obviously we weren't going to push Jamie out then. And I was defending him then against guys like Phil and whoever else on this board. But if a guy like Buzz is at a place like Marquette when Jamie eventually did leave, it would have been an attainable and brilliant hire.

And in hindsight, if Jamie walks 5 years ago, we would have had a much better pool of coaches than Kevin stallings wanting the job.

From that group, I might...MIGHT let Jamie walk to hire Mark Few or Greg Marshall. Not anyone else. I can't justify hiring a Miller or Smart to replace Jamie.

Well there's the hindsight again...because I would have absolutely let Jamie walk for Sean Miller. Now? Not at all.

I guess I'm in the minority on this board. But I think Buzz is right there with those guys as a coach. Every one of them.

No, you're not alone. I think Buzz is a helluva of a coach and should be included in that group.

It's hard to find coaches out there that are capable of fixing this trainwreck.

This is comical : Miller, Few and Marshall? Why not Brad Stevens? Talk about delusional!

I wasn't saying Buzz instead of Dixon back then. I was just saying Buzz is better than KS now . In fact, I would say KS is probably one of the weakest coaches currently in the ACC.

Buzz is the perfect fit for what a Pitt coach needs. He knows how to maximize his talent, emphasizes toughness, and is a good coach from a strategy aspect. Basically, what Dixon was before he started to change his approach.

I would take him over Shaka or Sean Miller but not Gregg Marshall.
