It was never its own country since the Romans conquered the Jews 2000 years ago. First off, the Ashkenazi Turks who are descended from the Khazar nation which converted to Judaism in the 8th century and who now pass themselves off as "Jews" did not write the book. Read Arthur Koestler's The Thirteenth Tribe to learn more. And that's the point. Who cares what political subdivision was recognized by what nation at what time?
