Is there a possibility that Pitt could be one of the odd teams out for going to the ACCT if they lose the next three games? I know that UM is out for sure, but looking at the reminding schedules of the teams below us in the current standings, I think there is. NC State and BC would have the tie breaker over us if we all had the same record, as would FSU, ND, and UVA. Pitt has the leg up over VaTech, Cal, and Syr

What a fitting end to the season if THAT happens

It would be very difficult, but not impossible to miss the ACCT. Here's our path:

- lose next 3

If at least 5 of the following 6 scenarios happen, we won't make it:

- NC St loses to Syr (since we have tiebreaker over them) and beats GT, Pitt, Miami

- Syr goes 3-1 (NCSt, VT, SMU, UVa)

- The winner of BC @ Cal wins 2 more. For Cal this would mean going 2-1 vs SMU, @ Lou, @ ND. For BC, this would mean going 2-1 @ Stan, vs Clem, @ Pitt. So easier path for BC should they beat Cal.

- ND wins 1 more game

- UVa wins 1 more game

- VT wins 1 more game

Chances of making ACC Tournament: 98%

I figured if there was one person who'd know the outcome of this it would be you

So you're saying there's a chance? (with apologies to the cast of Animal House)

Honestly? No

Why waste another day? I'm a Pitt grad

Those of us who are Pitt fans hate how they're playing now. And they're losing to boot. But that doesn't mean we're not going to watch them play. Because we're Pitt fans.

But I agree....I don't see another win the rest of the year. They don't have the coaching or the leadership to achieve another win.

Saturday night we have a family event so I won't watch the game in real time. I haven't missed watching a game this year, nor last. I record all Pitt games and would plan on watching it eventually. But if Pitt loses by a significant margin I'll likely pass. I might be a masochist in live time; not in recorded time

BTW, second surgery went well. I have a post surgery appointment tomorrow and a final appointment in another four weeks

From a tourney perspective, finishing 10-15 is much better than 8/9 given the Duke stays as the first seed.
Best spots are 10/15 games or 11/14 game since that avoids the one seed until the final.
Winning 10/15 -> 7 -> 2 -> final
Winning 11/14 -> 6 -> 3 -> final
Winning 12/13 -> 5 -> 1 -> final

Obviously the chance of even advancing one game is long, but one can dream of a scenario where they shoot out of their minds and have a run. Their defense and rebounding aren’t going to magically get better but this was a team who could score 80+ points through 14 games even against P4 teams.

Winning 12/

The best path is the 10, 11, or 14 seeds. You need to avoid Duke and hope we can pull off an NC St

That's good to hear that your second surgery went well, Moe! You're going to be saying, "Why didn't I do this sooner?". It changes your life. At least it did mine. Mine was 13 years ago with both eyes and I don't have to wear glasses any longer and can see colors, distance, near, everything so much better. I hope you get even better results than I did.

I had to miss last night's game because my wife and I went to see a musical for the kids in our school district. But I watched it later on Hulu and it's like Groundhog Day with this Pitt team. It's monotonous. I will probably tune in for a short time on Saturday and see how they look. But I'm not expecting anything different than last night, probably worse.

Update:

For Pitt to miss the ACC Tournament, they have to go 0-3 AND:

The BC/Cal loser cannot pass Pitt so the winner has to win their last 2, which is very unlikely and:

NC St go 3-0 (GT, Pitt, Miami)
Syr go 2-1 (VT, SMU, UVa)
VT go 1-2 (Syr, UNC, Clem)
ND go 1-2 (Wake, Stan, Cal)

Looks like we are going dancing in Charlotte!

Let's go 0-3 and see what happens ... I love a little suspense ;)

The BC/Cal loser can clinch us a spot in Charlotte on Wednesday. Even if we lose to Lou and NC St, I hope we have the champaign in the Raleigh locker room ready because if BC loses to Cal and then Clemson (at the same time as our NC St game), we could clinch! If it's Cal we need to root against, they play at 9 on Wednesday do maybe a Raleigh locker room watch party to see if Louisville can get us in by beating Cal.

It's spelled Champagne - it's named for a town in NE France. And technically speaking, a sparkling wine can only be called Champagne if it is produced in that region of France, and is made from either Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, or Pinot Meunier (or a combination thereof), and goes through a secondary fermentation process inside the bottle

But in Pitt's case, the only bubbly they deserve in a locker room party this year is something non-alcoholic - maybe Martinelli's Apple Grape, e.g. The dance card in Charlotte will be short-lived I'm afraid

The Panthers gave us a few nice wins (OSU and WVU, to name a couple) and a glimmer of hope this season when we ended 2024 @ 10-2. Our 2025 record of 6-10 has nothing worth celebrating

Maybe he meant Champagnie, and was hoping for some rebounding help?

After going to games in Pittsburgh, wake forest and Unc this year I’m not even sure I’ll go to the ACC tournament and I live in the Charlotte area. I’m that pessimistic and disgusted with this team/coaching effort the last few weeks.

Other than the outcomes, how did you like those arenas. I know both are dated, but for reasons that I can't explain, I've always enjoyed watching games at LJVM. The only drawback is that I leave with Wake's fight song stuck in my head. I absolutely detest the Dean Dome. One of the worst venues in the game, imo.

I think I'm going to try to make it to Charlotte for a couple of days.

Pitt is actually 6-10 in 2025 since the Cal and Stanford wins were in January but has already lost more games in 2025 than in 2024 when Pitt was 22-8. Pitt was 23-12 in 2023.

So it’s possible Pitt will have already lost more games in 2025 than each of the previous 2 calendar years by the end of this season. That’s progress.

Thanks for noting. I corrected that. I forgot that the wins over Stanford and Cal came in early January. I doubt we could beat Stanford now. I watched a bit of their game vs BC the other night and while they're probably not an NCAAT team, they do have the look of an NIT one. Might the Cardinal surprise a few teams in the ACCT?

I agree completely. I expected the dean dome to have a better atmosphere but it was filled with mostly very well off older fans and preppy families. Very little student noise. It was a Saturday noon game so maybe that drove the atmosphere. Also with the natural light from above it was a little odd

Wake had a pretty rowdy crowd and larger student section but they certainly weren’t at capacity. Fun environment.
