The new uniforms are overall a fail.

There is no way whatsoever....that the football uniforms are better than last year's let alone hit the home run we all had hoped for. To wit:

a) The shoulder stripes are a cheap...half assed effort to imitate the uniforms of the glory days. The stripes on the pants were far more comparable to 1980 and simply looked better

b) the gold pants with a different gold helmet looks awful. Forget optics....photography....computer screen resolution......it looks simply ridiculous.

c) the all whites suck. The new helmet works, to be fair. But for those that bring up the argument "turn on the TV and you recognize Tennessee....or Alabama...or Michigan right away.......when Pitt comes out in these all whites they have no noticeabiltiy whatsoever. None. Epic fail.

d) The hoop unis are nice. The away blues are very nice. The home whites need more gold.

e) the rest of the uniforms dont mean much since no one will ever see them on TV. That said......the baseball uni should have the Pitt angled much like many of the major league teams. There should also be a gold trim around Pitt on the home whites.

I grade this venture at C- to D+. the ONLY thing that will change my mind short of revising this hot mess is to see Lamont Wade, Don Jeter and Freddy Hansard wearing these in the fall of 2017.

The baseball uni's will have different hats. They weren't finished yet. I think they football jerseys look good. How are the shoulder stripes cheap?

I just think Pitt has made it tough once again when didn't have to.

I am also disappointed in the overall result but realize I'm getting older and my opinion becomes less relevant as it matters how the kids feel.

I think this review is a complete fail... Sorry.

In today's day and age Pitt could wear all paisley and due to modern HD broadcasting and the fact networks have THE NAMES OF BOTH teams in the corner for every broadcast it's impossible to not "know" who's playing ...in fact there are far more identifiers in today's world...check the remote menu during the game... Check your iPhone.. Listen for 10 seconds .. Or ... As mentioned earlier...LOOK in the corner dufusses... It's not 1976.. When the names were displayed only briefly after a commercial break... I flip through games all season and Ive never not known "who's playing" unless it's World Cup soccer... Never.

The stripes look fine remind me of the Steelers... I guess they are cheap as well?

Pitt has a good clean slightly old school but definitely modern look with Script and fans of Pitt do what they do best ...piss and moan...it's actually depressing....pathetic...

They look great.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. For a lot of us.

That said, I don't mind the uni's at all. I think overall they did a great job for all sports.

Ya I think the other sports look awesome! I was specifically referring to football......but like I said whatevs

Agreed, this post is a fail. The uni's might not be perfect but they are an IMPROVEMENT. Remember, the players didn't even like the material of the unis a few years ago and now they have the new Nike threads they will be comfy in. The matte helmet is a welcomed sight, the future is here. The throwbacks will be the best part. The strips look good. Building this program will have some missteps, we are on the right path to success.

I don't think the football unis are that bad. I don't think they're great by an means but they are definitely not horrible.

I like the sleeve stripes a lot. That is the best feature of the new unis. I do think the numbers are goofy looking and a good example of a school trying too hard. They would look much better in block form. Also, they should be white with gold trim, not the other way around. That would DRAMATICALLY improve them as those numbers would really POP, IMHO.

I think all blues with beige (or whatever they are calling beige) numerals is too dark looking. That has long been a problem for us. Design is all about creating balance and there is a very good reason why white is almost always the most predominant color in advertising.

I wish there was a way for everyone who's not happy with the uniforms to be given the opportunity to design the uniform that they'd like. Those uniforms could then be put on a website where the rest of us could evaluate them.

I think it's a safe bet that those designs would receive the same negative responses or worse.

This isn't intended as an attack on anyone; it's simply a reminder that no uniform will please everyone, anymore than one car color will please everyone.

Love 'em or not, I'm guessing that the majority of Pitt fans would agree that the new uniforms are an improvement over what we've seen in the past 15+ years.

You miss the point entirely. The idea is not that you want to know who's playing, but that you instantly recognize the team (Pitt) from their uniforms. A relevant team should never require viewers to look for the name of the team. If you do not immediately recognize the team by their uniforms, your marketing is poor.
The Steelers do not have 1/2 stripes on their sleeves. Iron -on stripes were very popular in the late "60's. There is nothing new.here. . . At CCHS, we had an ugly black jersey with half white stripes on the shoulders. They looked cheap then and look cheap now. Yet, I think Pitt got the best that could be culled from this style.

I am patiently awaiting the appearance of McDonald's, Sheetz, Heinz, UPMC and Consol logos on our game uniforms.

The basketball uniforms look good.

Have we changed our school colors to Blue and White?

Bottom line: Whatever pleases the athletes, recruits , students and a majority of engaged fans is the way to go.

Finally, thank you to those posters who consistently sacrifice their time and effort to point out the ignorance and stupidity of other posters. Without your relentless criticism, we would be unaware of the abyss between our puny intellects and the blinding brilliance of your unerring wisdom.

Simple question ... After all the hype surrounding the release of the complete adoption of Script how would ANY fan of Pitt not know who was playing? I'm betting most who are interested at all have seen at least pictures from the fashion show and therefor have literally no excuse for this supposed "confusion"... Everyone else can read "Pitt" on any possible combo because.. We'll it says Pitt on the helmet...

Seriously I've never heard such an absurd argument ever...

The football uniforms are OK. Not bad. Not great. Was kinda hoping to go Oregon-esque, or at least have a few more combinations like a Midnight Panther look. The big numbers looked looked a bit strange but I'll get used to them.

Don't like taking off the pant stripe but its OK.

I just feel if Pitt is going to go with vegas gold instead of yellow or mustars, the helmets and pants should be ND-like gold and not the drabby gold like BC.

The unis are fine. Sure we wanted the football uniforms from the early 1980s but it wasn't happening. Most important is how the team plays in them. Are we going to overachieve on the field or continue to lose five games a season as I continue to read on here that the program is rebuilding?

It's kinda like we're trying to build a house: it's tough to get the job completed when we keep changing contractors who bring-in their own, different set of blueprints.

The test of whether the new uniforms met the fans' standards will be merchandise sales. This rebranding will not drive sales-no one at Pitt has been listening for 15 years. The colors are blah. I could live with the navy but the washed out gold is just freakin pathetic-great for khaki lovers. Won't buy another piece of Pitt garb with that crappy color gold as a component. It screams "generic".

Totally agree, ANY uniform appearance will improve with 10 wins attached to them!
After all is said and done, it is what is IN the uniforms that is important.

"The Script" by itself will sell some merchandise...the team's success will determine how much is sold.

Man...tough crowd. I think they're nice. The numbers are a little odd looking but overall it looks good, especially the unis for the other sports. Keeping the helmet was the main thing since I consider it iconic, but I'm not too worried about peripheral stuff pants stripes. If the pants from 1976 were candycane striped, you old heads would be calling for that lol.

Pretty surprised a throwback uni didn't show up. It will eventually.

All in all, great job by the athletic department here.

The colors are identical to a few schools. An exaggeration to say you can't tell difference but ga tech has exact same colors, navy has same blue as well. It's a very blah midnite blue that can come off as black from afar. Pitt had its own thing going with the royal blue and mustard yellow. Anyone else watching instantly recognized pitt instead of us having a very traditional color scheme shared by multiple schools.

The uniforms are a step forward, so is the return of the script, the administration, the coaching, the talent, the recruiting. Getting harder for cynical Pitt fans although they always find something to complain about. We need to kick some ass on the field this year!

I'm like 95% sure that people had convinced themselves that Pitt was going to ignore the official school colors and go back to electric blue and piss yellow for football out of left field, then are mad when they came out with the same colors as always.

Just too bad imo......cause
Royal and Mustard ain't our colors.

Anybody confusing Pitt w GT is probably not paying attention, not very knowledgeable or drunk. You'll catch on real quick just betcha.
No problem man

And the worst part about that is that they convinced themselves of that silliness even though Barnes said months ago that the uniforms were going to be in the school colors.

As they should be.

Literally everything that gets said or reported that goes against the board groupthink just gets totally dismissed. Then there's a huge meltdown when the thing that gets said or reported occurs, as if it's totally incomprehensible. We laugh at Penn State for rationalizing things in a way that makes them comfortable, and on a smaller scale that's what happens here as well.

Case in point, the basketball hiring. All third party reporters said nobody wanted this job, Ray Mernagh polled coaches who said it wasn't a good job, then when we get an also-ran there's a huge meltdown, a whole bunch of conspiracy theories, and ultimately just a bunch of finger pointing because CLEARLY those reports were incorrect and somebody simply screwed the pooch on Pitt's end.

The official school colors are navy and OLD GOLD. Not the washed out vegas gold or white. Ignoring the official school colors is exactly what they did.

So, did you actually look at any of the brand identity guidelines before making this point?

The University Graphics Standards Manual says the gold is Pantone 4515.

The Pitt Panthers Athletic Department Licensing - Internal Use Information says the gold is Pantone 4515.
http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/ot/pitt-licensing-internal.html

That's the same color.

Can't be. Someone on the internet says they aren't the same. So obviously they aren't.

Then why are the gold pants bright gold? Let me guess, Nike doesn't have the capability to make a darker gold? I mean they do it for army but they just don't have enough fabric laying around the child labor camps in China to make anymore for us I guess. I don't mind the new colors, just be consistent. If you are gonna release some technical color like Pantone 4515 then don't unveil some bright gold pants 24 hours later.

Of course it's opinion. There is no right or wrong. Some like it, some don't. You can't convince someone that something they don't like is easy on the eyes. I think Maggie Seaver, the mom in growing pains, was incredibly hot. People thought I was nuts. Doesn't make me wrong.

I don't think anyone really believed the colors were changing back. All the newer gear the athletes had were the dark blue. Most if not all of us knew that the royal blue/mustard yellow was only coming back in throw backs.

I know exactly where you're coming from regarding Maggie Seaver. Television is a powerful drug and it is easy to fall in love with our sitcom friends.

Don't get me wrong, I ain't no queer. However, I did get weak-kneed every time Mr. Belvedere graced my television screen. Must've been his charming British accent and his playful banter with that lovely family from Beaver Falls.

BTW, as an aside, how many Beaver Falls households do you know that have a full-time, live-in butler? I always thought that was the least plausible part of that entire story. Hell, the whole Alf storyline seemed more realistic than a Beaver Falls family having a full-time live-in butler.

You are attracted to mr belvedere? DVY, this is no laughing matter, that's not good. I could see the wife, even the pudgy daughter but mr belvedere? I'd rather bang bob yuecker than mr belvedere, at least he would make you laugh post coital.
