Allar

I cant believe Arch Manning volunteered to be a waterboy for 2 years. Really stupid. Should have played football for 2 years then transferred to Texas. Not sure you ever see someone do that ever again
You think he should have taken a pay cut?

But to answer more seriously, if you took him right now vs Pickett when he entered the draft then he probably isn't. But at this point in his career compared to Kenny at the same point..Both were Juniors entering their 2nd season as starters.

But let's look at how they progressed. Allar has been a starter for two seasons.
495-783 , 63.2% , 5,958 Yards , 49 TDs , 10 INTs , 7.6 Y/A , 145.2 Passer Rating

Kenny in his first two seasons as a starter.
469-779 , 60.2% , 5,067 Yards , 25 TDs , 15 INTs , 6.5 Y/a , 121.6 Passer Rating
What about the talent comparison in Kenny’s first two seasons va. Allar’s? Not even close.

Here is how he's done against ranked teams:

2023
OSU (L) 18-42, 191 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT
Michigan (L) 10-23, 70 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT
Ole Miss (L) 19-39, 295 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT

2024
Illinois (W) 15-21, 135 yards, 0 TD, O INT
OSU (L) 12-20, 146 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT
Oregon (L) 20-39, 226 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT

Boise State (W) 13-25, 171 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT

SMU (W) 13-22, 127 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT

Notre Dame (L) 12-23, 135 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT

3 wins, 6 losses over two years.

"Drew Allar's average game vs 6 ranked opponents this year:

- 14/25 (56%)
- 157 Yards
- 6.28 YPA
- 1 TD
- 1 INT

He only reached 7 YPA in one game (Ohio St 7.3)"

That said, I get to some extent what NFL scouts see in him. He has bad wide receivers and is a 6'5" guy with a big arm. His footwork is terrible but NFL coaches probably assume they can fix that.

Oh, I agree. I'm by no means saying he is better than Kenny was, I haven't watched nearly enough of his games to form a strong opinion and I'm guessing most people in this thread haven't either.

I was responding to the question about how anyone could possibly consider Allar a better prospect than Pickett was, with special consideration to his ability to complete a pass. But at this point in his career compared to Kenny at the same point it's pretty clear who has the edge statistically. People want to bring up Allar's failure against ranked teams, which is by no means wrong, but you definitely don't want to compare that to Pickett's stats vs ranked teams in his first two seasons, lest we forget his 2018 PSU and Clemson games that combined for 63 passing yards.

All I'm saying, and what most talking heads are saying, is that if Allar has another season like this next year he'll likely go in the first round. Most had him as a top 3-round pick if he entered the 2025 draft, if he shows another consistent season he's only going to climb the boards.

In addition to only being 20 years old and having better arm strength. I don't get how people don't comprehend that projection and production both matter.

I'm still not incredibly high on him, but I can certainly see the appeal. NFL teams have taken flyers on worse.
I'm not very high on him and I'm not sure the NFL is right now. It's a really bad QB draft this year and if Allar was highly valued by the NFL right now, he'd easily be a top-10, maybe even top-5 pick this year...even as the third ranked QB.

Saw a social media post from a PSU blog site that said Allar will be the far and away #1 QB next year and also the #1 pick in the draft. This was not satirical. I have never seen a player who has brought out completely opposite opinions. Some feel he is a #1 pick and future Hall of Famer. Some feel he isnt even a P4 caliber starter. It's insane. Plenty of PSU fans would rather have Beau Pribila and plenty think he's the next Mahomes.

Would you take him over Eli Holstein? I honestly wouldn't. Scale of 1 to 10. Allar is a 5. Definition of mediocre college QB. Lucked out having Warren and 2 big-time RB's.
I hate psu as much as any one else and what I am about to say has nothing to do with that...Drew Allar sucks. I said it on this website earlier this season and nothing that I have seen has changed that opinion. He is part of the Big 10/psu media hype that goes on year round. He has done absolutely nothing to indicate that he is an NFL level player so far and honestly don't see him doing anything to change that next season. Would I take a HEALTHY Eli Holstein over...IN A HEARTBEAT.

Allar ia 6’5” and 235.

Kenny is 6’3” and 220 .

Doesn’t seem the extra 2 inches helped to compete a pass to any wr against ND .
I really don't think Kenny is that big regardless of what it is listed. You have seen out there, he's relatively tiny.

Disagree
Unless you think the nfl combine measurements are wrong
He also ran a 4.73 40 which is pretty quick for a qb
Josh Allen ran a 4.75 for comparison .

He looks great when he can stand in the pocket with no pressure on him. He had a pretty good offensive line this year that was not challenged most games. He also had a great running game with two backs that are very good. The problem was that he couldn't perform in big games. Whenever he was pressured he did not respond well. The interception against ND was a bad throw in response to pressure. Having said that, other than Warren, he had Pitt caliber receivers which is Franklin's fault. So, to me, the jury is still out on him. I will say I don't see him turning into something special at the next level, and I wouldn't spend a 1st round pick on him because he hasn't shown he can handle pressure well.
lol. Most qb’s look good when there is no pressure on them. But I do think your right because what separates great qb’s is how they deal with pressure.

Kenny is big enough to play the position but he certainly isn't big by NFL QB standards. Lawrence, Herbert, Allen, etc. are big.
Yep. I met Pickett at training camp and he was great, but definitely wasn’t physically imposing like you see with other players. As you said, big enough to play but I also can see why he gets banged up sometimes.

But Souf says otherwise and he is the smartest guy in the room.

Of course 6’3” isn’t physically imposing Unless you’re short .

Buddy you doubted his actual measured combine height.
Lamar Jackson is 6’2. So is Mahomes and Rodgers .

So Kenny is essentially the same size as Matthew stafford

Burrow is an inch taller than Kenny

Kenny has a small frame. Nothing wrong with that. A lot of NFL players do.

He's been nearly a bust for how he was hyped at least around here. But they're supposedly pillaging and plundering all the top assistants in the country so maybe next year...

I don't understand why the Ohio State DC would leave for the Pedos
Sounds like a combo of two things: Knowles and Day apparently had some big blow up after the first Oregon game that they lost, and it might have veered into the personal. And Knowles and OSU’s defensive line coach butted heads for years about scheme for the DL.

He decided that he wanted to leave, and Penn State jumped on it - they preferred Knowles to Diaz a few years ago, but Knowles took the OSU DC job and Penn State was happy with Diaz as a consolation prize.

Day was upset that the DC used his Just for Men , which made his beard a less ridiculous color -
So Oregon won .

Right. I get and see some of the concerns, that he can be bizarrely scattershot at times and isn't great in the clutch. But, he has great measurables, very solid stats and does throw some incredible passes at times, and as someone else noted working w (amazingly given recruiting ability) an amazingly bad wr crew to work with. He's clearly a first round talent.

He's clearly a first round talent.

Clearly? The kid isn't even a good P4 QB. Talk to some PSU fans. Many think he sucks and want him replaced. He has a 0.0% shot to be a good NFL starter. It's a complete waste of a 1st Round pick. And I hate the WR excuse. They had an elite running game and elite TE that teams had to account for.

Absolutely the most unnatural black ever. It is blacker than a black crayola crayon.
oh yeah vintage GIF

If Day's was unnatural, what was Hogan's lol

Same one where the PSU dc. Leaves for Clemson !

Sometime coaches want to work with new people
Why anyone would want to work with James Franklin is beyond me. Although Franklin strikes me as a guy that is more about having fun than hard work and probably doesn't demand long hours out of his assistants and things like that, so there could be an attraction to that I guess.

It is apparently the opposite and that is why some coaches have left. There are rumors that Manny Diaz was looking to leave because he could not golf even during the dead periods in July.

Let me ask you this? Where the bleeping hell are you getting this from? That is one of the worst takes ever on this board and there has been alot of them. He goes through coaches like most people go through socks.

I mean -
If you want to take it easy and not recruit - working for Narduzzi seems ideal
