Totally useless as far as I’m concerned. Nobody queries this guy on his view of the performance of the major men’s’ programs and his future expectations. The interview is solely on the change in the financial backdrop for college athletics….we’ve heard this spiel over and over again from a dozen different sources. I’m beginning to believe that when this guy does an interview he sets up some very clear boundaries and that a real heart to heart discussion about Narduzzi and Capel are off the table. It’s like the guy is a robot.

To be fair he is what, 6 months on the job. I'll withhold judgement until he does something.

It’s hardly a spiel. And the gap between the haves and have nots is likely only gonna grow. It’s hard to know who’s gonna be where unless you’re at a big money school.

And if he did address the coaches, what do you expect he’ll say? We’ll get nothing more than AD speak. Coaches have our full support, blah blah. If you’re looking for him say something along the lines of Capel is out of here unless they make the tourney, ain’t gonna happen.

What is there to discuss?

Who is coaching the football and basketball team next year, or 5 years from now is rather insignificant compared to the financial concerns and hurdles that Pitt and similar programs are going to face in the current changing climate.

As much as I hate to admit it, Narduzzi and Capel are the least of his worries.
He is tasked with spinning straw into gold.

He ain’t spinning anything until he has 2 good HCs.
Of course. So what's he supposed to say, "I'd love to dump the two underperformers I inherited in our most important sports, but I can't due to financial constraints so we're stuck with them both for a couple more years unless I can convince some big time donors to help me out?"

No, he’s supposed to say we want championships and won’t be satisfied until we win them. It would be encouraging just to know he isn’t happy with the results in either sport last year. We can fill in the blanks…we understand the contractual mess. He’s said zippo about either sport season.

I assure you he isn't happy with the results in either sport last year because he'll be fired if they continue.

Feel better?

Are you Allen Greene? I want to hear it from him…he is hiding from the real issues by limiting his public appearances to highly structured interviews in which he can blither on incessantly about the changes in NCAA athletics.

Now you can go back to sleep or watch cartoons on Nickelodeon.

No I'm not Allen Greene, but I also don't need him to spell out the extremely obvious before I'll feel like he will attempt to do his job.

If I were interviewing him, I wouldn't waste time on asking pointless questions that will generate canned answers when there are existential concerns related to the athletic department that he was brought in specifically to manage.

Maybe you can contact him expressing your concerns and see what happens, because everyone else already knows the answer to the questions you want him to address.

two coaches who are paid handsomeley .. I'd bet both of their annual figures are pushing top 25 in their respective sport .. if not in the top 25 .. I'd say that's a concern based on the product they cook up for us.

If Narduzzi is 5 million a year and I can have a Kade Bell / Mike Shannahan type come in and coach for 2 million, why wouldn't I do that? Save 3 million .. spend another 1 million to create a solid support staff for the young HC and then take the additional couple million and put it towards NIL.

Instead, we pay our coaches a lot of money for a lot of nothing.

Correct. At least on capels side of things. I still haven't completely given up on duzz although this year will tell us a lot

I haven’t given up on either, honestly, but if money wasn’t a thing, I’d want both gone. I also won’t be shocked if Duzzi wins 8+ games. I won’t be shocked if Capel builds a tournament caliber team.

The issue with Capel is he gets too fixated on stuff. He built his team around Lowe and Ish and it got too one dimensional and he was stuck. A center that’s Lowe’s good buddy and can’t shoot also being forced to play because of this “vision” he had.

Building a roster from ground up with no ties to any other players? I’m actually excited to see what he pieces together. Now winning games on court will be a different story but on paper, I won’t be shocked if I’m fired up about our roster in November.

I would say I think duzz has showed he's a good coach at developing talent. I dont think capel has ever shown that. He can win if he recruits talented players but I am not sure he can develop guys.

He’s showed he can generally win 6-8 games, with the occasional clunker and the even rarer outstanding season….even factoring in his purported ability to develop players, this is nothing to write home about.

Pitt can change coaches all they want, but they aren't going to get anything to write home about from the football program. Those days are history. The SEC/Big 10 are putting the squeeze on everybody else not only to keep up financially, but they basically control the playoffs as well. Other conferences are playing against a stacked deck. It's going to be hard going forward for programs like Clemson, Miami & FSU.

Six months on the job?!? People would be fired at any normal job if they haven’t done anything. This is big time college athletics. Get off your @$$ and start doing something.
Do what? The school is not firing those 2 coaches, because of HL. He would be really stupid to get and interview and start running of the mouth about firing this or that coach, just to appease a few fans. Give it a rest.

It’s goi

It’s going to be hard going forward for everyone.
