Knows how to play and plays a team game.

With that train wreck offense on display tonight, he needs in there.

Team needs ball movement and some organized offense.

I think there was an unnecessary and over reaction to the Duke loss.

Capel massively changed the rotation for no good reason.

We got smaller. We become a three player team, almost exclusively dribble drive.

This would’ve been a great game for him to play considering how loose he is with the basketball.

We have no offense. Like no sets. Just dribble penetration and contested layup, ally opp, or kick out.

I don’t recall seeing the Horns set they ran so well in previous years much this year

Last night was not the night for Amsal. He has been lose with his handle and isn’t thrilled with contact. He would have been a TO machine like Jaland last night.

Yeah he may have turned it over a few times.

He also might have moved the ball when no one else was.

Might have also grabbed one of those elusive rebounds others either stood and watched or had hands that couldn't gather.

Might have even hit a three.

Pitt first half - 27.27% FG. 12.5%. 3PT. - I believe we had 14 TOs - Probably out rebounded too?

Regardless of the final first half score, this game was lost by this "horrendous" start and a Head Coach who had zero clue on how to stop the bleeding.

Would you have said the same about Jorge absent his performance?

Amsal has not played enough to make any accurate judgement about his handle (11 A - 13 TO)

He played 37 minutes against OSU and had 3 turnovers (1 of them should have been an assist)

I have not seen any sign of "isn't thrilled by contact".

In my opinion, an injection of Euro ball might have improved our chances over our usual style of play.

Do we ever individually gameplan at all?

Gotta agree with Gary here. Get the kid on the floor. Nothing else was working. Or bang head on wall again and hope for a lack of brain damage.

So you think Amsal is better than Cummings ?
Is he even better option than Jorge ?

Who is he replacing on the court ?

He just seems way too slow so far. So much so, surprising dribble drive first Jeff even considered him.

Not saying he is Luka, not one bit.

But...worth playing time.

He played 37 minutes in a win AT Ohio State. (Yeah, I know his stat line.)

The game is not always about stat lines.

Amsal "sees" the "entire" floor better than anyone else on the team. He plays a team game and is fundamentally sound. (Free throws will come around)

That’s literally a crazy conclusion to draw by his very limited minutes .

You also said playing Kante against Ohio State before he came into the game was idiotic and he wouldn't contribute at all so I mean, why not try Amsel.

That's true, and I was wrong about that one game.

How about the other nine since?

We have a team that is awful on interior defense and defensive rebounding, and a big who mostly can't get into the games and when he does he shows little to justify him being in the game, but you simply can't figure out that right now he's just not that good a basketball player.

But hey, if your plan is to fly a kite and hope for a lightning strike, well, I guess at least that's a plan.

Kante and Amsal are like the popular backup QB....or in more Pitt terms, the new JJ Moore. JJM might have been the most popular Pitt reserve ever.

Kante is confusing because he did play outstanding vs OSU and has looked mostly ok in his few cameos...and he's playing behind someone who is struggling so how much worse than Corhen can he be? Amsal on the other hand is going to average 7 PPG at like Davidson next season. He's just not a P4 player right now. He may be when he's older but nobody sticks around for that.

I've said before, I would be playing Kante more. I would have played him a lot more (relatively speaking) in the non-conference. Had you done that then one of two things. He'd have either figured some things out and been ready to be more of a contributor now, or he would not be up to the task and he would only be playing, well, kind of like he is now. But one way or the other, you'd know something more than you do now.

But at this point, barring foul trouble or injury or something, it looks like his playing time is going to be extremely limited.

He played so minimally in even those cupcake games that I made the statement that he isnt a P4 player right now and everyone jumped down my throat after OSU. I meant that as a freshman, it was obvious the staff felt he wasnt ready for this level because he cant get off the bench vs bad teams...and I trusted the staff. Then he had his Chevy vs Gtown moment against OSU and I thought, well, I was wrong and the staff was wrong. But we basically haven't seen him since. He hasnt played enough to get a good feel for his game but my feeling is that the staff thinks he is too much of a defensive liability. That's just my hunch.

Nothing else is working right? Maybe he can drain a few 3's. I mean maybe it's worth a try.

It will be interesting if things are not going well early tomorrow if we keep doing what we've been doing, or if we try something different.
I'd like to know why GDG seems to be in the doghouse now. Last 2 games he didn't play or hardly played in the 2nd half.

I don't get that either. He has been, by a pretty good margin, our best defensive rebounder this year. And the last two games, when we are having all kinds of problems on the defensive glass he doesn't play in the second half.

I mean he's certainly not a great player. And we could really use him making threes the way he did last year. But pretty much everyone on this team has their flaws, and one of his strengths appears to be something that we really need.
