Amsal

I don't get that either. He has been, by a pretty good margin, our best defensive rebounder this year. And the last two games, when we are having all kinds of problems on the defensive glass he doesn't play in the second half.

I mean he's certainly not a great player. And we could really use him making threes the way he did last year. But pretty much everyone on this team has their flaws, and one of his strengths appears to be something that we really need.
Capel over reacted to the Duke game and early Louisville. That is why GDG is playing less. Capel sees GDG as Bethlehem John sees Amsal: loose handle and can be physically overpowered.

That, and Capel's love of playing small.

We can not play Corhen, Austin, Dunn, Leggett and Lowe, but that is the clear inclination.

To be fair, Guillermo does have a loose handle and he can be physically overpowered.
Agree, but most of our players have flaws.

Looking like Corhen rather than GDG or Delalic does not make one a far superior player.

Physique needs to translate into play.

So- I’ll ask again-
Who does Amsal replace in the rotations ?

Austin or Cummings or Dunn ?
Beebah and Dunn can also run the point .

Amsal is a 2/3 . He is a willing passer against lower level competition when he got more run .
Against better teams - he’s not contributing much of anything.

The other 3 are- and if we need a tall shooter - I’d definitely go with Jorge so we can all get blocks and rebounds .

Pitt should play 10.

Guillermo-Kante
Corhen-Jorge
Austin-Delalic
Leggett-Cummings
Lowe-Dunn

Dunn is not fully recovered. Can see that in his handle and his being more careful with contact going to the rim.

We have enough talent that no one needs to play 37-38 minutes.

A break each half might also prevent offense degenerating into three players taking turns at dribble drive.

It might also keep us out of foul trouble and allow full effort on defense.

One additional benefit: Since we seldom vary scheme, at least it will force our opponent to vary from "their gameplan" and at least be forced to adjust to different personnel. Maybe opponents don't get as "locked in"?

Kante and Amsal are like the popular backup QB....or in more Pitt terms, the new JJ Moore. JJM might have been the most popular Pitt reserve ever.

Kante is confusing because he did play outstanding vs OSU and has looked mostly ok in his few cameos...and he's playing behind someone who is struggling so how much worse than Corhen can he be? Amsal on the other hand is going to average 7 PPG at like Davidson next season. He's just not a P4 player right now. He may be when he's older but nobody sticks around for that.
I like Kante -
I do think he needs a few minutes per game - since he plays with energy

Pitt's defense at the end of the last 3 games has been very bad. Maybe having fresher players would translate to better effort at the end, rather than playing the same 5 for most of the 2nd half.

I don't think there was an overreaction. Dunn had just come back from injury and was ready for more action in the Louisville game. We all knew once he was back that it was going to impact things.

No doubt, but the question is how?

Before the injury, it was Dunn or Austin.

GDG time was not impacted. Our lineup on the floor maintained its length

With the return of Dunn AND the results of Duke and early Louisville, we made a conscious decision to play with less length.

Absolutely pathetic defense .

Amstel hasnf played since Stanford and generally has gotten nothing more than mop up minutes. Not sure how you can truly assess his play.
