This topic reminds me of spring 2018, I think it was March and the NCAAs were going on. I'm driving from the panhandle of Florida into southern Alabama. I have some sports talk show on in the rental car and all they're talking about is SEC football. Yes, during the NCAA basketball tournament.

Now the best part of the story. Livid LSU fans calling in that want Orgeron fired because they finished the recruiting season 15th and there were 3 or 4 SEC teams in front of them. Georgia was 1st and Bama was like 5th. Those two had just played in the title game. How was LSU ever going to compete with those teams..... LOL.

In the Bay Area, all the talk is about the 49ers, Raiders and Warriors. Very little Shark talk and pretty much no College FB talk.

Sometimes that's the case, but not always.

I remember in 2016 when Pitt beat Syracuse in the ACC tourney, on the (then) Starkey and Mueller show (right after the game), they asked for callers to call in and talk about the game and Pitt Basketball and the upcoming NCAA tournament. They got not a single caller, I kid you not.

And as far as people saying "not knowing"....I disagree. I think Poni and Mueller follow college sports pretty strongly. Same with Starkey. We know Zeise doesn't. Mr. 166 Super Genius doesn't. At all. If he isn't watching the Pens or Steelers, it is WWE. (I am not making this up). Even the Dunlop/Mack morning show have interest with college sports. As much as I always liked Savran, he is all about the pro teams also.

But again it all comes down to the if a tree falls in a forest, does it make a sound. When they have their segments, and get no reaction from callers............then again, the Fan specifically seem to be going more and more away from callers.

I like Sirius but it has the world's worst host, Adam Schein. He's worse than Mark Madden because at least Madden knows he's a joke and only exists because there are people dumber than him. Schein truly believes he's god's gift to radio.

I never thought I would say this....but I would rather listen to Poni and Cook give their opinions on those shows over MM and Steigerwald. Why? Because the latter two, I already know what they are going to say. They just push the same narratives over and over and over again.

Madden's boring. The only way he can get attention now is by bullying a select group of beloved sports figures in the city. Every so often he breaks a story, but doesn't have much substance anymore. He used to be pretty good.

Poni is the guy who used to do the show after the basketball games on the Fan. We'd listen to the post game show and then leave it on to hear what he had to say. And almost every game he'd give his recap of what happened during the game and get it absolutely laughably wrong. Like he'd spend time talking about how Pitt had trouble with the opponent's tough zone defense in a game that the opponent play man to man all game, stuff like that. It got to the point that we just turned him off, because he obviously had no idea what he was talking about, and laughing at the stupidity is only funny for so long.

Oh he was a horrible choice for post game. But Joe, these hosts don't have to be Doris Burke breaking down X's and O's to the nth degree. They follow college sports, which is much more than most Pittsburgh sports media guys. Some even have a disdain for college sports it seems.

I've noticed this too. There was a time when he would do sports opinions on TV or in an article in the paper. When I followed the guy on twitter I was shocked that he had no idea how to support anything he wrote. Politics or sports.
