One name we've heard rumored is Joe Rudolph. Pat Narduzzi has spoken highly of Rudolph in the past - he said that Mark Dantonio tried to hire Rudolph at Michigan State - and obviously Rudolph has local connections as a Belle Vernon native and former Pitt assistant.
Rudolph was involved with the Temple head coaching position but it sounds like Rod Carey is getting that job, leaving Rudolph either to continue as Wisconsin's offensive coordinator or pursue other opportunities. One source has told me that there are rumors Rudolph wants to leave Wisconsin, which makes sense; right now, pretty much his entire resume is tied to Paul Chryst, and at some point, a long-time assistant like him needs to make a move if he ultimately wants to end up as a head coach.
So we'll see what comes of that. It's a rumor at this point, but it's a name that would make a lot of sense on a lot of levels. And I think he could be a good option as a smart offensive coach who fits what Narduzzi would want to do.
We'll keep working for a little more solid confirmation.
