5th year transfer - Immediate eligibility.

I like Collins a great deal. I remember him as a freshman beating Pitt @Pitt. Heath would space the floor on both sides, giving Collins the middle to go one on one. He continually ran the clock down and almost always made something happen late in the clock.

He might not fit here playing with Robinson. Neither is much of a threat from three and both would want to dominate the ball.

If it could be worked out, Robinson could play less intensive minutes. It would give Jamie the high assist to turnover rate he likes and it would allow the shooters (DJ, Artis and C.Jones) to do the shooting.

Collins is a very experienced guard that would not tie up a 2016 scholarship. Pitt could become more of the older, experienced team that Jamie likes.

He's a fascinating case.

We was tough as a frosh, but slipped every year afterward. And USF was terrible last year.

Yeah, as a freshman it looked like Collins was going to be very good, as a sophomore he looked like he was only going to develop into a decent player and then this past year he just looked bad.

It's tough to think that a player whose usage rate, Ortg and free throw rate has dropped every single year is going to be much help. Especially since he's not really regarded as a good defender even though he gets a fair amount of steals.

I would say Collins looked bad because of his surrounding cast, including his coach.

Here is a comparison of Collins terrible year versus our guards last year:

Wright 27.7 mpg 9.3 ppg 3.0 rpg a/to 1.7/1 46.2 from 2 21.1 from 3 50.7 ft 1.7 steals

C,Jones 27.4 8.5 3.1 2.0/1 43.1 35.7 54.5 0.3 steals

J.Newkirk 20,8 5.9 1.3 1.9.1 37.7 30.1 66.7 0.5 steals

Collins 33.9 7.1 2.6 2.2/1 44.2 27.6 67.9 1.5 steals

Collins looks better to me than what we had, If healthy, he is an absolute improvement

He's a PG, no? Maybe a backup or reserve for a season JD and Co. want him until whoever they bring in in '16 and Wilson are ready.

Jones has better numbers....and 2 years left to improve.

In fewer minutes. Waste of time.

Re: Jones has better numbers....and 2 years left to improve.

Collins is a guard - Jones is a three trying to play the two

Hey....YOU'RE the guy who listed him. And who needs stale

bread?? We need to stop looking for quick fixes....Trey Ziegler, e.g. Wilson in 2015, Heron in 2016, maybe Gibbs??

Here, I just tossed this together so that you can see what I'm talking about. Essentially we'd be replacing Newkirk, who we can all agree pretty much stunk last year, with a similar but older player who played against worse competition. Collins was worse than Cam, who also wasnt particularly good, and not even in the same league as Jones or Robinson.

Sure, if Josh transfers and we need a backup point for a year there are worse ideas but expecting Collins to come here and to even be useful is a huge reach.

With our current cast, what would happen to Pitt if Robinson had a lengthy or even lingering injury? There is no one else to handle the ball.

Adding Collins is insurance. I would not even mind seeing Collins at the point with Robinson at the two. The only problem is Jamie would not run his offense to take advantage of Collins and dribble penetration.
