Soon, Pitt will name a new coach.

He will then contact every player on the current roster and make a strong pitch to the ones he wants to keep, and gently shove out the door the ones he doesn't.

And without fail, nearly all of the ones he wants to keep will stay.

If a complete stiff like Kevin Stallings was able to convince the Pitt players who asked for a release two years ago to stay.... you don't think a Danny Hurley, Nate Oats, or whoever else we hire could convince Stewart, Carr, Brown, and Stephenson to stay?

Why would they choose Pitt if there's a chance they won't have any players? Too much risk

They were 0-19. That means not every player is going to go to another P5 school. A new coach can bring in his own players.

At 0-19, each player should be worried if the new coach will LET them stay, not the the other way around.
Amazing isn't it? Why on earth would Chukwuka and Davis want to transfer unless they don't want to play at the P5 level.

Only 4 of them have a shot at a P6 offer and really only 2 have a good chance. So the others would be passing up a chance at P6 basketball and a very good school to go to a way lower level and likely worse degree opportunity, plus HAVE to sit out a year.

No.

Faced with the prospect that Luther will probably go; an empty arena, getting ridiculed by the fan base and by bag wearing students, another 0-19 season a distinct possibility I would not walk away, I'd run. It far more likely they all go instead of all staying.

If you are thinking of a transfer, the best time to do it is after your freshman year. Oh, and by the way I am totally relaxed. Saw this coming a month ago.

-We will lose by 30 or more most nights if it happens. And don't forget the media will rip into Pitt on a national level harder then a tiger against a piece of wet bread. Ugly doesn't define what we are staring at potentially. People arent seeing the scope of this yet with a guy like Schmidt as coach

What is the transfer rule when signed players want to transfer after their head coach is fired or leaves on his own, do they have to sit a year? What is the deal

If a player wants to go they can go now.......but they may or may not get their release from Pitt. Again, the new coach will talk to these kids and most of them will stay if hes a good hire. Those that still choose to transfer, will likely do so at the expense of losing a year.

Yes. 2 years if they want to go ACC. Luther is the only one who should have free movement and even that Pitt could restrict, like they tried to do with Cam Johnson.

Luther was/is going to have the option to be a Grad Transfer no matter if Stallings stayed to not.

I agree with this take. Everyone needs to relax. Not all 8 of them will leave. This is a reaction that you would expect from 18 year olds. Not blaming them, but there will be time to re-recruit the roster and I would imagine a good coach will be able to salvage 4 or 5.

One of the most lucent posts of the month. I think that is exactly what will happen.

For most PITT fans its just business as usual.

Just another day listening to the local Pittsburgh sports media and reading the newpapers.
