are you people worried about crowd issues when the psu fan base comes to Heinz field?

I am genuinely curious being that many of my fellow bwi posters seem to be concerned about potential violence at Heinz field. Do Pitt fans share the same concerns?

Yea. Because Psu fans will get offended by the anti paterno garb and signs Pitt fans will have, and try to start crap. They also will be loud, arrogant and try to act like they are taking over the place.

If they just shut up, there won't be many issues.

I realize that we may come across as out of control to you Pitt fans but I am hoping that we will display a great deal of civility. Threads like these are a good way to lead by example.

I have been a season ticket holder for many years, and have never thought conditions were violent or unsafe at a Pitt game, and that includes previous PSU games and WVU games. At least I have never felt that way (and I did in Morgantown). Yeah, there is the some yelling, razzing, and threatening, but have seen few fights. The BWI haters want to 'put that on Pitt fans' because of their resentment and hatred. Other than some minor incidents, which are found at every stadium during a rivalry game, including Beaver Stadium, they cannot say that there will be a safety factor. I'm sure there will be extra security anyway, considering the importance and buildup to the game.

Pitt fans are likely to taunt PSU fans. I expect many PSU fans will be looking for a fight and running their mouths, given their unbridled arrogance and lack of self-awareness. My car was keyed 2 of my last 3 visits to State College due to having a Pitt window decal I would suppose.

As long as PSU fans don't act like idiots, a tall task...everything should be fine.

I am hoping for cool temperatures ~

-I'm concerned about Penn States defensive line after the game is over. I see pain coming from trying to stop our run game.

Here is my advice - do not go around chanting We Are.....If you do, then expect to hear replies that you do not want to hear. Be respectful going into the game, cheer on your team, and walk out like a normal person without running your mouth.

A lot of Posters on bwi appear to be looking for trouble. I have asked that we all be civil. I ask hoping we can encourage civility.

I realize that we have done a lot of things that have cause the world to be repulsed but I hope we can move forward and look for some positives.

I fully expect that the Pitt fans will mercilessly taunt the Penn State fans over the whole child sex scandal. It will not be pretty. They will be particularly vicious towards Paterno - who used to wag his finger at them in disapproval over a litany of issues.

If the Penn State fans react by laughing it off or blowing it off, there will be no issues. If the Penn State fans take offense to the taunts and confront the Pitt fans over the jokes/taunts/signs/etc., then yes, there will definitely be issues because there is no way in hell the Pitt fans are going to let that opportunity pass without getting in their licks.

It won't be physical like it is in Morgantown. I don't expect many people to get hurt as a result of physical violence. However, I certainly wouldn't expect a warm reception either if I were them.

Personally, I will be there with about 20 other Pitt fans and probably 10-12 Penn State fans too. The ages will range from very young (2-3 years-old) to mid-70s. We are going to have fun with it but not take things too far. It is, after all, just a game.

More than anything, I just hope Pitt wins.

During the 2000 game, we went with a big mixed crowd full of fans of both schools and a few Ohio State and Michigan fans too (don't ask). We all had a lot of fun.

The only downside came after the game when the then boyfriend (now husband) of my wife's best friend (PSU alums) complained after the game how rude everyone was to him. He vowed never to go to another game with us again. Honestly, I have only run into him a few times since then. For whatever reason, he was really wounded by that whole experience.

I was sincerely flummoxed as to what he was crying about? We had a tailgate and had a lot of fun, exchanged some light-hearted (or so I thought) barbs and then went to the game. All was well in Panthertown...until his team lost. Then all those barbs were actually mean-spirited insults that made us classless and a disgrace to college football and an affront to humanity and all the rest of it.

I think this will be similar. If they win, their fans will rave about their experience and they will boast about taking over Heinz Field. Conversely, if they lose, Heinz Field will be compared to the Thunderdome and many will vow never to set foot in that stadium again after how harshly they were treated.

It will definitely be performance based.

Im sure a punxh or 2 here and there but seriously mostly just good natured cheering and harassment by the fans whose team iswinning the game. Its College Football. Happens all over the country when schools are in close proximity

pitt home games are about as tame an environment as you can get.. Yes we have our share of loudmouths (I was one of them for the better part of 2 decades) but as far as a hostile environment for opposing fanbases, you cant get more "friendly" than Heinz field. Think Herbstreit said it best in terms of Winston playing his first game at Heinz when he said there is no better place to play if you are an opposing QB... That was not a compliment...

Unfortunately I will have my 2 young kids with me so the crude, obnoxious, and offensive comments wont be coming from me. I hope the student fan base makes up for it.

Having worked as part of the security in Beaver Stadium, I can assure you that there is a group of the fan base that isn't afraid to eat its own. Guessing it's part of the Philly contingent but generally speaking, if you come looking for a fight, you'll probably find someone that is willing to oblige.

To be civil you have to walk in humility. I don't see many penn state fans doing that.

I realize that you believe the majority of us act like the animals that were in the riot or that we are like those "truthers" but the majority of us are disgusted with what happened. I hang my head in shame over that whole mess. Please realize there are many of us that walk in humility.

That is fair enough. Unfortunately, the loudest portion of your fan base is the ones defending paterno.

Penn State fans should be thankful that this isn't a Steeler game.

Penn State fans should be thankful they are still playing football. I would imagine once everything comes out once and for all that place should have been shut down for good. The administration at the time took the first deal given to them knowing what was around the corner.

However their freakish "view" of it after the fact, you are righ that Pitt fans are going to be absolutely merciless about them and Paterno, there are going to t-shirts, signs and other things ... Decades of holier than thou BS put together with the abhorrent acts by Sandusky, the powers to be looking the other way, and their twisted sense of making themselves into victims. Just a recipe for some pretty ugly venting.

How ugly it gets will depend on them. PSU fans are going to have to deal with it, either keep their mouth shut or otherwise take it with a pretty big dose of magnanimity.

And, Pitt had better darn well win, because if PSU wins or gets up and starts cocking off ... As someone else noted, even a "We Are" chant is going to get pd ugly, pd quick.

Not really. The same 11 morons that feel the need to yell at opposing fans exist everywhere. If I see some guy abusing you I'll be the first to get the police involved. But there's also the 11 jerkoff away fans that come looking for trouble.

I believe the two are mutually exclusive. I am ashamed that our BOT sold my University down the river, however I also firmly believe that Joe Paterno had nothing to do with it.

I think the rest of the world thinks you have your villains and heroes mixed up. We think your BOT were the only people involved who FINALLY did the right thing precisely because for decades Paterno would not or could not.

Question for you revival. PSU fans say that Pitt has few fans, and say they Nit fans will fill the stadium, so what are they afraid of? If there is only gonna be a minority of Pitt fans, then they should not be 'afraid' of crowd issues unless it is on them. Am I correct?
