Army - Michigan

The service academies have historically been great plays as a big dog and horrible plays as a big favorite. Looks like Army continuing this tradition today.

To me it’s playing to win rather than letting Michigan dictate. Too many big dogs make that mistake at the end of games.

Massive mental error by Hudson there, almost unbelievable.

Sneaking home to watch this, Narduzzi better not blow this lead.

Flex Option is the great equalizer. Can you imagine Pitt going into Michigan or OU almost beating them? Several coaches (Lou Holtz comes to mind) swear the option is impossible to defend and yet it's not widely adopted. More evidence about how mediocre college coaches are..

They want to be employable. They are always thinking of the next job. Running something weird that is not easily understood apparently reduces the job opportunities.

As I posted on another thread, Army should have just stuck to what their Strength is as the decision trying to Pass that resulted in the interception in the 2nd Half and resulted in a Game Ending Sack in OT were bad gambles. Army did cover as one my Best Bets of the Day though, as figured their Ball Possession would eat up a lot of clock so they would beat the 22.5 Point Spread. Too Bad they did not also get the Win.

Would love top see PITT install that Army Offense just for the Game in Creepy Valley next week to eat up the clock and take away the Home Field Advantage, and maybe negate the Talent Advantage The CULT will have with their Defensive Front 7 versus the PITT O-Line, as this is not a good matchup-IMO. Thought PITT had a chance to Win in Creepy Valley prior to losing Weaver and Camp, but not likely now, although the Backups played well today. Just imagine how good the D-Line would have been this year if healthy? Would have made the Back End Players even better with pressure from the Front 4.

In other words, it's safer to be like everyone else than differentiate yourself with an offense that helps to win. You could easily right but that just proves my point. If you amass good records, opportunities will come despite your obsolete offense..

It's not like this experiment never happened. Georgia Tech hired Paul Johnson and went to three orange bowls. Then they fired him, which was imho not a good move. But they were the one big school willing to take a risk on a coach who would recruit a highly specific system of players that would almost inevitably mean a rough landing when he would be gone.

If only we had a school that ran the option offense exclusively at a P5 five school so we could see how well that offense might work at that level. o_O

Hey, by the way, has anyone noticed that Georgia Tech won 58% of their conference games in the past 11 seasons, but that they had only won 43% of them the last four years? And that they only finished 6-2 or better twice in those 11 seasons? And that they only finished in the top 25 three times in those 11 seasons?

Agreed, they were fading. Johnson had been on the hot seat the last couple years, Ga Tech deciding to part ways with him not exactly a surprise.

A team that never runs the option attempting to run the option for one random game with one week to prepare is a disaster waiting to happen. What would the over/under on the number of Pitt fumbles in a game like that be?

Put me down for the over.

In 11 seasons they finished either 4-4 or 5-3 in conference eight times. Plus one 7-1, one 6-2, and one 1-7. They have kind of defined mediocrity. Rarely all that good, but also rarely a disaster.

I was kind of semi joking with the idea, as realize it is virtually impossible to install such a system on short notice and the QB running that Offense needs practice on making the correct decision on when to keep or pitch the ball, or give to the Fullback. I just mentioned it, as I am concerned how PITT O-Line and whoever else(RBs, TEs) helps outs to Block, will struggle next week against the Front 7 from Creepy Valley. Certainly is amazing though how Army(and on certain years, Navy and Air Force) with lesser Quality FB Players can challenge Top 20 Teams with 4 and 5 Star Rated Players.

I didn't watch much of it, but the announcers on the nitter - Buffalo game at one point in the 3rd quarter were talking about how Buffalo had been having success running the ball right up the gut against the nitters. Let's hope that's something that we can exploit.
