Article about Shaka Toney's visit

Toney is figuring out that Narduzzi has been an architect of some very good defenses and knows exactly where each of the players talents fit in. In contrast, at PSU James Franklin doesn't seem to have a real system after firing the OC which is his side of the ball, and then having the DC leaving after Toney committed, leaving Toney to ponder if he is a match for the new defense or just a body to recruit.

This position stuff matters. It's why Jo-El Shaw didn't even consider Pitt until they changed their minds late. He was dead set on playing RB and didn't want to hear anything about playing LB.

2 things that caught my attention in that article.

1. We are recruiting him to play DL. PSU at LBer. He prefers the DL.

2. City versus urban setting.

It's also why JJ Watt signed with Central Michigan-they were the only school that offered him as a TE, the position he wanted to play. He started as a true frosh and played the whole season as a TE in Butch Jones' spread. Caught 8 balls the whole year amd wasn't happy about it. Butch came to him after the season and told him he wanted to move him to OT--CMU had some great success converting athletic TEs into first round draft picks at OT. JJ said that wasn't the deal I signed up for and I'm outta here. The rest is history.

That CMU team had several future NFL starters on it and that 2007 freshman class with Watt and Antonio Brown was one of the best in MAC history. BTW, I don't remember the exact number of catches AB had as a freshman but it was over 100. I think Butch's offense suited him a little better than it did JJ.

Oh don't worry...By tomorrow morning Franklin will declare him a DE...

Hope you're right man, but I don't see it

Typically "official visits" end on Sunday morning. So the recruits you saw at the game were Pittsburgh area players. If Toney wasn't from Philly or it was a Saturday night game, he would have been there.

Hudson was there and he's not going to Pitt.

I think that it will be hard to get any of the players, local and others, if they have not already committed. I hope I am wrong.

He's generally listed at 210. And at 6'5", he has the frame to get to 250 and not loose any quickness. That combination of height and weight ideal for a quick college DE.
