As much as I've always disliked ND

Not sure what you mean here.

Kelly's teams were fine until they ran into the loaded up Bamas, Clemsons, OSUs and UGAs of that era. Everyone else got murdered by them as well. At that time those teams were so superior to everyone else from a personnel and coaching standpoint it wasn't even fair. This ND team didn't have to deal with one of those--down year for all of them. I do expect OSU to curb stomp ND in the NC, assuming they don't trip on their dicks against Texas tonight. Only way OSU loses that game is if they beat themselves.
Brian Kelly would have beaten Indiana at home in a playoff game. But I swear on my life he would have taken the L to Kirby Smart in the sugar bowl with that back up still.

BK brought consistency to ND, and I appreciate that. And he faced some stack teams in the playoffs. But he had no feel for a big game environment, and how to motivate his players. It’s playing out at LSU where they will literally give him anything to win.

It's also lack of championship caliber talent. January 20th, ND will once again get beat down by a team with superior talent and prove Brian Kelly correct.
Are you saying that the team with superior talent always wins?

Nope. I'm just saying I think tOSU is going to easily win over Notre Dame. And the reason I think that is because tOSU has championship caliber talent and Notre Dame does not.

The two most talented teams in the CFP played each other Friday night.

That’s what is sounds like to me…superior talent always win. So if that’s the case you don’t believe in coaching makes a difference.

Of course, coaching makes a difference. However, most every P4 school has a competent coaching staff. Superior talent is the single greatest factor that goes into winning. There's a reason the programs that keep signing Top 5 recruiting classes are the ones winning National Championships.

How did OSU manage to lose to Michigan and Oregon, if they have the most talent? Incompetent coaching?

ND has enough talent this year to win three playoff games, including the Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl.

Kelly's teams failed to do any of that.

Neither did his last three LSU teams.........

Turnovers cost tOSU the first game against Oregon. tOSU beat the hell out of Oregon just over a week ago.
tOSU's staff, specifically offensive, sure didn't have their best day against Michigan. It happens.

Hard to believe that every single one of Kelly's teams failed to accomplish something that was impossible to accomplish before this season. Imagine my surprise.

Kelly had an undefeated season at Notre Dame. He's played in a National Championship game. He's been in a playoff. He never said those things couldn't be done. He said he didn't think Notre Dame could win a National Championship. That's his opinion. Unless Notre Dame wins against Ohio State, he hasn't exactly been proven wrong.

This misguided notion some people have committed to in their heads that Notre Dame has always had top level talent really shows how little most people understand what they're looking at when they watch a football game.

There's a reason that since 2024, 20 out of 24 national champs have been from the south. The same reason that Alabama has handed very good ND teams their asses 3 times since 2012 in postseason play.

These guys just don't get it TD--ND does recruit well, but that's relative. Compared to OSU, Bama, UGA, Clemson, LSU, Texas, and even PSU or Michigan, they don't even come close. It's just a fact that some people refuse to accept, proably because of their dislike of ND and inability to be objective.

Sure, the less talented team can sometimes beat the more talented team, that happens a couple of times every season. Teams have a bad day at the office and they lose. Critical turnovers, special teams errors, etc. etc. Happened to ND this season. And it happened to OSU, twice. That doesn't mean the losing team has lesser, or even equivalent, players or coaches. Sure ND could beat OSU, I think Freeman has them bought in and believing, but I don't expect that to happen, and I don't expect the game to be particularly close.

I'm damn glad the greedy bastards lost. They got to keep their 20 million for themselves because they refuse to join a conference. Well I hope things come apart for them and they never make the CFP again. They are not special, hopefully NBC will drop their contract soon. They gave me the gift of beating the pedophiles and seeing the nitwits whining after that game. Thank you ND, now go back where you belong. Play a decent schedule, unlike this year, and finish 9-3 or 8-4.

I get your "anger". But just like the Cowboys are in the NFL, the Fighting Irish will always be a solid brand in football. There are far too many generations of fans that root for and that support ND to make them have to join a conference (for football, anyway). And the primary reason that they are in the ACC for all other sports is to capitalize on the revenues from those

Until the ACC grows a pair and either forces them to join for all sports (including football) or kicks them out completely, ND will remain independent in football. And NBC (or another network) will air their games

Kelly never won a playoff game, ever.

Freeman won three...this season.
Gee, I wonder what was different about those playoff games while Kelly was coach?

Kelly has played for and lost the same number of national championships as Freeman. TD’s point, which was also Kelly’s belief, stands. ND won’t be winning any Nattys in this modern era. They don’t have, and will never have, the talent level and horses that the real heavies have.

Nick Saban said it best last night before the game when he picked OSU-OSU just has a lot more elite level future NFL guys in the 2 deep than ND. That was pretty obvious from the first OSU possession to the end of the game. The fact that it ended up only being an 11 point win was the only surprise.
