Aundre Hyatt

Officially reclassifing to 2018. I'm guessing he will end up at Pitt and redshirt.

Yea, Capel won't lose this guy if he wants him. This isn't Stallings or Dixon II fighting off Fairfield for scraps. The question is: is Hyatt good enough? I'll trust Capel.

Capel's great, but I wouldn't go that far. Hyatt's last two visits are to Pitt and LSU, who have the #3 class in the country. Will Wade can recruit his ass off too.

Does LSU have spot open for 2018?

I don't believe so, but I've heard some chatter about Brandon Rachal getting kicked off the team, which would open a spot for Hyatt in 2018. He seems to love Will Wade judging from the quotes in the article on 247, it'd be weird if he were that enthusiastic about someone who can't take him.

Shoot. Wade is a known cheater. Not sute if Wade would risk cheating for Hyatt though. I dont think these cheaters cheat for every recruit so I still think he's Capel's.

There's no doubt that JC is a truly gifted recruiter , but thinking that he'll always get his man is truly delusional . Who knows what any kid or their family is looking for in a program or the composition of the roster in regards to their position . Pitt will have the best collection of talent since the Golden Panther era of Pitt bb , it just might take a few yrs to accumulate it . Patience is needed and we all should enjoy the process of Pitt being resurrected from the dead !

Not always but when going after 150ish recruits against lesser programs he will

Injury and rehab would set him back a year but if picks Pitt he will get upmc treatment. Can't hurt our chances.

the fact he cancelled his pitt visit and it only visiting LSU and providence tells u all you need to know

As I just reported, #Pitt basketball will not host Aundre Hyatt in August. His visit was canceled. The Panthers have plenty of prospects at wing. I believe they are focused on size (PF/C) for 2019. #ZooEra

LOL - and you are not "slanted"? Every freaking Pitt related item is negative with you. You are the definition of a troll.
6 hours earlier he was a Pitt target and now eliminated and Pitt is the one not interested.

That isn't true, at all. Meanwhile, earlier this year you were talking about how you should probably just switch allegiances to a Carolina school closer to you. You don't give a flying f**k about Pitt. Do you even watch the games? I know enough not to expect to see you at any games or the HoF induction this year.

Very glad Pitt decided to pass on this player

Guys, you aren't a troll just because you have a negative slant on some issues. There are people here who seem incapable of uttering a negative word about Pitt and that's fine because that's how they're choosing to be fans. By the same token, you're not any less of a fan if you're not as generous with your praise.

Personally, I liked what Hyatt offered and I'd have taken him, but I'm not really bothered either. As long as we don't waste the scholie on a reach, I'm totally fine with it tolling over to 2019.

I don't know which way it went, but I don't think it is a great thing. He is a talented player and would have made us a better team, but I am confident we can find a player as good or better next year. However, I don't worry about limitations of scholarships because we still have lots of dead roster weight that can be cut to give us plenty of scholarships for 2019.

Unless there is a one and done 6' 6" guy out there Pitt has enough guys that size. Better to hold off until you see what you have and then try to find a guy to fill the void. Like a
big !

I will simply trust Capel at this point instead of getting bent out of shape over a kid that is no longer considering Pitt for whatever reason. Maybe he eliminated Pitt, maybe we stopped recruiting him. Doesn't really matter to me at this point. Capel knows what he is doing from a recruiting standpoint and will get the talent back on this team.

Ok, haven't been following closely,
just know we need more size.

Captain--Consensus seems to be that no big good enough to provide immediate help (or even be ACC productive in a year or two) was found to be available among the remaining players out there for the class of 2018. So, getting a big (or bigs) seems to have been deferred until next year (Class of 2019).

Nevertheless, I agree the most pressing need for the current roster is another talented big or two. We are way too thin down low in terms of rim defense and defensive rebounding. The other side of that same coin is that we are also too weak inside offensively to be able to play the inside out game needed to collapse the defense to get perimeter players open shots. IMO, Brown is really our only near-ACC level talent big (assuming he is improved as a soph). If Brown gets injured, or even whenever he gets in foul trouble, it will be costly as Ilegomah and Chukwuka are the only backups and it seems (as much as we would hope it to be otherwise) neither has the potential to mature into ACC-level contributors.

I totally agree!

You trust Capel... to stop recruiting a player who canceled his visit?

As was said above, Capel is killing it in recruiting, but he won't win every battle. Why do fans need to be so myopic about it? We missed a kid. The sky is not falling.

I don't care how good his class is, Pitt is not yet in position to be "glad" to miss on anyone.

At the risk of gaslighting-
It is feasible that Pitt wanted him for the 2019 class- and when he announced he’d enroll this class his value to us with a couple other wings already signed this class, dropped?

Doubt it enough 0-19 not to take him (if eligible). Most of his recent quotes seem that he's already made up mind to lsu is why imo.
Gaslighting? Isn't that what narcissists partake in?

As has been previously mentioned, it is well known that Hyatt is rehabbing a knee injury and it appears unlikely he would be able to contribute much this coming season. No doubt he is a talented player who, when (or if) fully recovered, would be good to have at Pitt. However, given his knee situation which likely precluded any serious contribution during the coming season, losing him as a recruit after his reclassification to 2018 doesn't appear to be a loss to be too concerned about.

Speculation: I suspect (but don't know for a fact) that as previously mentioned, we wanted him as a 2019 recruit but would have had taken him in 2018 but only if he were willing to redshirt because we have so many similar wings already on the roster. So, if LSU wouldn't require him to redshirt that could have been the reason why he is apparently headed there.

People are reporting that the move to get him reclassified left him unable to get enrolled ...

Who said any of the above? Way to make a leap and cherry pick my comment.

My comment in full was "I will simply trust Capel at this point instead of getting bent out of shape over a kid that is no longer considering Pitt for whatever reason. I honestly have no idea whether he eliminated Pitt, Pitt stopped recruiting him, or what happened... Frankly, I don't care what the reason(s) is that he is not coming to Pitt.

All I know is he is not. If you say he eliminated Pitt, then so be it. I honestly have no idea what the actual story is so he could very well have eliminated Pitt on his own.

I have zero issues saying Capel missed because like you said he is not going to land everyone.

And no one said or at least I didn't say that Pitt is in a position to be "glad" to miss on a talented kid.

I am simply saying I will trust Capel to get the talent back on this team with his recruiting.

Coach apparently pleased with what he's seeing in the gym. Going after size instead.

Why would we want him for 2019 and not 2018 with an open scholarship? That makes no sense.
