Banner Update

I spoke with E.J. Borghetti last evening (thanks for the suggestion, pitt-girl). First let me say that he's a really nice guy and great asset to Pitt. He is going to notify media about the banner. We may even be able to get ESPN to shoot some footage of it. My wife will use her contact to try to arrange that as well.

I'm going to try to come up with a tentative location for the banner in advance. It will be somewhere in the parking lot on the GOLD side of stadium.

Here's what I'd like to happen:
  • Get as many people as possible to sign the banner...LOTS and LOTS of people!
  • Hold the banner up as Pitt enters the field and get a "Conner Strong" chant going.
  • Get people to tweet #ConnerStrong near the beginning of the game.
I'll have to take the banner down by around 1:00 or 1:15, so I have time to get past security and into the game. I have permission to bring the banner into the stadium, but I want to allow plenty of time just in case security gives me a hard time.

I'm in section 30B Row 19, seats 1 and 2, which is right next to the end of section 29 (seat 24). It looks like the sections connect. Let me know if your seats are in Section 29 or 30 near that area and can help hold it up and make sure the people in front are sitting or are out of the way, so it can be seen. I won't have poles or anything, so we'll just hold the banner in front of us. Alternatively, if you are in row 1 of 29B or 30B and want to hold up the sign in your area, let me know. There's a walkway right in front of Row 1, so that would be a good spot.

The most important thing is to continue to spread the word about this. Let's show James Conner how much we support him and the entire country what it means to be part of the Panther Nation.

One modification.

"Pitt is Conner Strong" is too wordy of a chant and will be hard to make out.

Simply "Conner Strong" works better.... to the cadence of our normal "Let's Go Pitt".

"Con-ner Strong"

ps. I'm in 30B, Row 18, seats 9 thru 12.

Agreed. Let's go with that. I will edit the original post!

Amy said that I could put the banner at the Alumni Association event. Even though admission to the event is free, if you sign up in advance, I know a lot of fans won't be going to it. I'd rather have the banner in a spot where everyone can sign it. I will try to put it in one of the areas circled in yellow, near gate 6 of the parking lot.

As suggested by zapirk, I will get the location of the banner out using social media the morning of the game.

Are you on twitter? This is a great idea - a group of us had discussed doing something similar, but since you're already 'there' we'll ride your coat tails on this one?

I just want to say great job. Conner Strong we are.

were going with honor conner thats a chant

Conner Strong seems to be popular and is what James himself as well as coach Narduzzi and other Pitt people have as their twitter header picture. I'd rather go with Conner Strong, especially because the chant will start when the Conner Strong banner is raised. If there's a consensus to go a different direction, I'm fine with that, but we all have to be on the same page for this to work.

Conner strong is more universal in the pitt circles im sticking with that. And consultant panther, tweet your idea along with a photo of the banner and we can reach a wider range of people

zapirk, I will do that later today or tomorrow. I'm getting over a nasty virus, so I'm moving slower than normal...I did get the frame for the banner built yesterday. It gets windy in Annapolis and the frame isn't sturdy enough, so I need to get some more PVC pipe to reinforce it.

Feel better soon!

I'm still not 100% sure where we'll display the banner at the game, but would you be willing to hold the banner up when Pitt enters the game, if we decide to go that route?
Of course. First row of 130 upstairs, let me know. Or, if you want some help downstairs or on the field, let us know that, too, glad to help.

Upstairs, the deck is set back from the sideline, it looks like it starts above about something like Row 25 or so, if we hold it upstairs, it may not be as visible as if it were held up on the lower level, just FYI. How tall is this banner?

Good point. We should probably hold it up on the lower level. The banner is 2 1/2' tall x 12' long. It's short enough that it should be pretty easy to hold up.

Feel better soon!

Thanks, I'm getting there.
