That is where I am right now. This is based upon Stallings past history at Vandy, what I saw with last year’s team, what I saw in regards to the roster transition and recruiting last year, the play on the court this year, and the recruits coming in next year. I do not want to pile on because I hate how the Pittsburgh media treats The University of Pittsburgh, and I want nothing but the best for this program. But I just cannot see how Stallings can turn this around. Realistically, my head is saying NIT in year 3 or 4 is the best case scenario with an empty Pete.
I also wonder if/ how he can turn around it. Two things will be indicative IMO:
1, This year's recruiting class (2018) has to be a big improvement. The two
signees seem to be ok, but to really compete in the ACC we need better....
much better. When a team like Montana has two guards that we wished
we had, it speaks volumes. We need at least one legitimate big and the
same for a legit guard. By legit, I mean ACC legit.
2. As far as his coaching is concerned, how far he brings this year's team along
will say a lot. I know he can coach offense; in fact we've improved from game one
to game three. What I've seen from Luther the last few games is IMO, what Stallings
must be doing in practice.
Now on the defensive end, I'm not so sure. We'll know more as we watch how
this team handles their individual assignments.
The same goes for rebounding. Both rebounding and defense can be taught.
Jamie earned his reputation here on how tough we were in both. Last night in
the second half I felt the defensive intensity was better. It needs to be MUCH
better; and no more getting beaten off the first step, no more giving up baseline,
and finally learning what weakside help is and when and how to use it.
I base my assessment of him in areas like those, not on the other nonsense that
seems to be so divisive on here.
