That is where I am right now. This is based upon Stallings past history at Vandy, what I saw with last year’s team, what I saw in regards to the roster transition and recruiting last year, the play on the court this year, and the recruits coming in next year. I do not want to pile on because I hate how the Pittsburgh media treats The University of Pittsburgh, and I want nothing but the best for this program. But I just cannot see how Stallings can turn this around. Realistically, my head is saying NIT in year 3 or 4 is the best case scenario with an empty Pete.

Yeah...I see very little hope of a tournament appearance in the next 5 years.

If your freshman struggle like this against Montana and UCSB, they likely will never be good enough to compete in the ACC.

I also wonder if/ how he can turn around it. Two things will be indicative IMO:
1, This year's recruiting class (2018) has to be a big improvement. The two
signees seem to be ok, but to really compete in the ACC we need better....
much better. When a team like Montana has two guards that we wished
we had, it speaks volumes. We need at least one legitimate big and the
same for a legit guard. By legit, I mean ACC legit.

2. As far as his coaching is concerned, how far he brings this year's team along
will say a lot. I know he can coach offense; in fact we've improved from game one
to game three. What I've seen from Luther the last few games is IMO, what Stallings
must be doing in practice.
Now on the defensive end, I'm not so sure. We'll know more as we watch how
this team handles their individual assignments.
The same goes for rebounding. Both rebounding and defense can be taught.
Jamie earned his reputation here on how tough we were in both. Last night in
the second half I felt the defensive intensity was better. It needs to be MUCH
better; and no more getting beaten off the first step, no more giving up baseline,
and finally learning what weakside help is and when and how to use it.

I base my assessment of him in areas like those, not on the other nonsense that
seems to be so divisive on here.

Possibly but I think Stallings needs to make the NIT next year......or have a great 19 class lined up to save his job. At the end of next season, there has to be legitimate hope of making the NCAAT in 2020

Just think, John Calipari, a local guy, applied for the PITT job and was turned down! THINK ABOUT THAT!

Hiring Calipari right after Willard was fired was right there for Pitt. The program was in shambles and Calipari was depressed after getting fired 20 games into the strike-shortened 1999 season. Of course Nordy wanted nothing to do with Calipari and it was even written in the Post Gazette that the Big East didn’t want John coaching in the conference.

It turned out well for Pitt with Howland/Dixon, but this is Calipari we’re talking about.

How would it have turned out if we hired Cal?

Probably two great recruiting classes, then he'd leave to go coach a blue blood team and we get put on probation. On probation we never get Howland and Dixon and regress to our historical median faster. Oddly we might have gotten that one right.

One year when UCLA won it all, they beat the Griz (coached by Jud Heathcote) by less than 5. And that was on UCLA's home court and their fans were up in arms. It was just a matter of time that the Griz knocked off a power 5, and unfortunately we just happened to be it.
On a more positive note, the Great FallsTribune said that Pitt was all freshmen and were going to be a good team in the future. You kneelers out there won't like this, but, It also said that the Pitt band played the most beautiful version of the National Anthem that they ever heard.

Why didn’t a Blue Blood take Cal away from Memphis early in his tenure? Calipari had one NBA guy at UMass then early on at Memphis he had the Wagner kid then no real NBA sure-thing guys until Rose in 2007. Him working the one-and-done system at UK wasn’t going to happen at Pitt.

Calipari probably would have recruited the kind of four-year kids he did at UMass and most of his Memphis tenure. As far as probation, it likely would have been minor and well worth it. If he left Pitt the same time he did Memphis, Nerdy then could have hired clean-cut Stallings or Fran McCaffrey, the then-Iona coach in 2009.

Cal told me once that he wanted the Pitt job when he was here for a reunion of sorts. He also asked me if I knew anyone at Duquesne. A few years ago we were on the same flight to Montana (me for a fishing trip, he for a clinic at Great Falls High School) and he told me again how he had wanted the job then. but, after Evans was let go, he really didn't want it because of the administration.

Memphis is an easier basketball school to win at. Not sure Cal would have stuck around here that long or would have ever gotten Derrick Rose here. Also Rose might be (no exaggeration) illiterate, so could he have even been pushed through the system here?

Memphis - NCAA finals 1973, four sweet sixteens in the 80s and a Final Four in 85, elite eight in 92, etc. They had that history to build in that we don't.

And Vincent Askew, David Vaughn, Penny Hardaway, Larry Finch, Keith Lee, Lorenzen Wright, Earl Barron all from Memphis/West Memphis high schools. Cal did recruit more nationally especially for their one and dones, but they have a great local talent base that Pittsburgh hasn't had since about 1950. Obviously like I said the result of that was leaving a three or four? year probation and a vacated season behind.

Cal is a salesman.
He tells people what they want to hear for a living.

He wasn’t coming here or even interested, other than leverage for more money. He put his name out for every job using the same method .

Stop.

I hate how the Pittsburgh media treats The University of Pittsburgh, .

The media treats them the way they deserve to be treated, the sports department is and has been garbage for decades, worst among P5 school now. Total garbage, I wish the PG would do a 3 full page detailed examination of how bad they suck for all to read and see! Why? Because I'm a fan and want them called out.

No, you don’t get it. The UNIVERSITY of Pittsburgh. I am not talking strictly about the Footballing Academy of Pittsburgh. CMU and Pitt revitalized the city and should be treated with the same reverence as the Steelers.

Honest mistake, this is a SPORTS message board, I'm not hear to talk about the medical school or IT department. But we do that here because the sports suck so bad.

My greatest regret is having found out the spoiler on The Good Place before seeing it.

I've had an easy life I guess. Also love the Budhole

I believe Bell said recently that she knew the twist before she signed on, but none of the other cast (at least the "humans") knew until they filmed the reveal.

Bell and Danson knew what the end game was, none of the others did.

There is actually a video out there of the table read when the other cast members had it explained to them what was going to happen. Their reactions are priceless. I'll see if I can find it.

Yes and how much are we paying Pedersen to make him disappear? That should come out of Nordy's pocket? And did TCU really pass us what they were supposed to when Dixon bailed for TCU?
