Best Conference is Now the ACC

No one is disputing the ACC's superiority this year that unless they are idiots or absolute homers. No one.

Things are always cyclical, but the ACC is positioned to regularly challenge for conference supremacy in football, hoops, baseball, and a myriad of Olympic sports which means Pitt will be competing regularly at against the best of the best from September to June.

Most AP writers are from Big 10 country based on someone's previous post, so therefore, the Big 10 is still the best conference in the country...even though their top 3 lost their bowl games. Etc..etc..etc... Wishful thinking that they will get rid of the AP poll someday. Though, some traditions should die.

I have not found one national sports media organization that is trying to make that argument at this point.

Most important part is that with the ACC winning a couple of football NC's in recent years (as well as a runner up last year) it puts to rest any idea that the ACC isn't competitive in football with ANY OTHER P5 CONFERENCE.

Now just wait until the ACC Network linear channel kicks in and the revenue stream takes a jump. The ACC sits in the largest population footprint in the country. Football and basketball are both excellent. This should all translate into a tremendous future for the ACC as compared to any other P5 conference.

Agree, for the past two years the it's been a tie between the SEC and ACC but from 1999–2014 it was all SEC. My only objection is that a lot of the NYD 6 are played in heavy SEC and South ACC locations. If there is any chance for North ACC, B1G and PAC12 teams to get a somewhat home field advantage, they should start playing some NC in more locations. The Carolinas, Cold city Indoor stadiums like Ford Field, Lucas Stadium, I mean shit, even the Pros played SB XLVIII in an outdoor stadium in February. I know we want warm weather locations but for the NC it should be spread throughout the country. I've watched too many North ACC, B1G and PAC12 teams travel long distances to play home bowl games in the opponents home region. Flights and Hotels aren't cheap these days especially during the holiday season.

Clemson destroyed OSU in Arizona. That's as neutral a location as you can get.

But for both teams fan base, it was a far journey. That's my point, a real neutral site would have been Indy or Charlotte.
Indy is a 2.5 hour car ride from Columbus and 8.5 hours from Clemson. how is that neutral?

Charlotte is a 2 hour car ride from Clemson and 7 hours from Columbus. how is that neutral?

And it has won the natty with two different programs, with a third providing a Heisman; and FSU should be right back in the mix for a national title next season. What could really launch the ACC is if Miami can get back to some resemblance of its championship caliber program because the Canes capture the attention of the media and general sports fans like few other programs. And people seldom consider it, but throw in the 5-game-a-year deal with ND and the ACC is providing some serious football content (and those games will end up on the ACC Network which will fully cover ND). It would really be helped if VT, Pitt, or Syracuse could provide some significant northern exposure.

The ACC is shaking off is reputation in a way the Big East never seemed to be able to do. The real question is is whether Pitt will be able to ride the wave or get smothered by it.

Yep. But I'd sure rather see Pitt resurrect their program and have it return to national prominence than the U!

Son, and how far is Glendale, Arizona from both? I'm just saying maybe these Playoff games should be played in other locations and not in or as bowl game. Have them separate from the bowls in better fit areas. Traveling fan base in key to winning on the road but not if you have to pay a fortune for travel and hotels.

Not a big fan of the bowls but the good ole boys will fight this tooth and nail.

No doubt, but I'd argue that a strong U is more important to the conference than a strong Pitt. In an ideal world, we'd be the Clemson and FSU of the Coastal.

I really think we'd be headed towards ACC bottom feeder status right now if not for Narduzzi. Its obvious the ACC is rising (even though its already #1), perhaps more quickly than we had imagined when all of the coaching hires were made last year. Pitt needs to make moves to keep up as I don't think the status quo is going to do it anymore. Its probably obvious but I see these as three three areas of focus:

Coaching - We need to focus on retaining Narduzzi (extend and give him more $$) and putting a stellar staff around him. Along with the offense, I hope they look to upgrade the defensive staff as well. Don't need to spend a million on the OC but should spread that money around. Target a guy like Scott Shafer for DC who can shoulder the load and become a true AHC.

Recruiting - Goes with coaching but we need to make sure we are adding top-flight recruiters to the staff. I'm not as concerned about the WPIAL as others provided we are getting top talent from elsewhere.

Facilities/Atmosphere - Not going to beat a dead horse but the program needs to find a way to get butts in the seats more regularly and improve the atmosphere at Heinz. It has an impact, no matter what anyone says. This doesn't matter as much to a team like Miami as their program practically recruits itself given the football hotbed that is South Florida. We don't have that luxury.

The stadium in Arizona was COMPLETELY full. The travelling fanbases for OSU and Clemson certainly had no problem getting there and filling the place up. Each team had 40,000+ there.

The ACC hasn't even come close to reaching its ceiling either. The key will be paying up and keeping all these good coaches in the conference
