Lets say from 2000 on, which WPIAL players have had the best NFL careers

Donald
Revis
Boyd
Hamlin
Miles Sanders
Winovich

Drawing a blank, especially on guys who left the state. When you leave the state, you have almost no chance to make the NFL

Whitehead.

Steve Breaston had as good a career as a few guys you listed above, same with Malik Hooker.
Breaston and Major Harris are my two "if only Pitt would have signed these guys, things would have been so different"..

good call, BReaston had a real nice career in the nfl.

Hasn't Jackson's career been better than Hamlin's? At least until very recently.

Lavar Arrington was post 2000.

I think Posluszny had a decent career.

Isn't Jaquan Brisker playing well?

Breaston had some good years, but I don't think he stuck around long.

Can't recall if Brandon Short had a good NFL career.

I think there are a lot of guys missing from this list if Hamlin is on it.

Breaston played 6 years, i thought it was longer. did have one thousand yard season.. Finished 3 more seasons with 700+.

i thought his numbers were better. decent career i guess.

Lavar and Brandon SHort were in wpial in mid-later 90's.

Sanders actually is turning into a nice back for the iggles, i didnt see that coming..

I know there was a linebacker making plays for the Seahawks a few years ago who was from McKeesport or something.

Wasn't some dude from Slippery rock starting on the OL for the Vikings?

Can't recall what Justin King's career was like. I don't think Montae Nicholson did much in the NFL.

Pat McAfee.

Gronkkkkkkkk!

Conner and Givens are kind of WPIALers.

Gradkowski for a hot minute.

Shawntae Spencer - 2nd Round pick who played in the NFL from 2004-2012

I was gonna mention him, but I thought he was earlier for some reason.

Steelers were keeping it real with the local DBs for a while there. Ryan Mundy, Mike Logan, Russel Stuvaints, Hank Poteat (Pitt by way of Harrisburg). Probably would have had the big one, too, if the Jets didn't hop in and poach him.

This isnt a good list. Most guys from early 2000s. Guys line Shawntae Spencer and Justin King who were barely in the league. A punter, a mercenary (Gronk). A backup QB. Surprised Palko and Baldwin werent mentioned.

In terms of NFL success, Gronk is right there with Revis behind AD for top former WPIAL players since 2000.

Luke Getsy is 38 and has (for now) an OC job. That’s a solid NFL career so far.

What would a ranking look like:

1. Donald
2. Revis
3. Sanders
????
Not counting Gronk but you can if you want

That's not a terrible 1-2. Don't know how many places could boast a better one.

I mean, this is all going to change soon. These cool lists we're used to seeing of how many HOFers Pitt has produced, etc.... eventually, the hall of fame is going to get such a ridiculous infusion of guys from Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, etc. that Pitt's NFL prowess will be next to irrelevant.

Same with a lot of these cities at the high school level. Everyone who is anyone will just relocate to these recruiting powerhouses such as IMG, the mighty Bishop Sycamore, etc.

All that in addition to the fact that football is already becoming so much more southern-centric. The landscape is just changing so much.

Meh. I think it's more the Eagles dominant OL than Sanders. Someone will likely give him a big contract that he doesn't really deserve. I doubt it'll be Philly.

Quinton Jefferson started out with the Seahawks and bounced around is currently back with the Seahawks. He's a 300lb DL though from Woody High.
That must be the guy who raised my eyebrows during player introductions on a Sunday night game a couple of years ago when he said he was from the "Swissvale Golden Flashes". (Anybody who played for them would be in my age bracket.)

Always loved him as a player. Wish he would have come to Pitt. "His arms are too short," was all you heard and then he went ahead and had a nice college and NFL career anyway.

agree, part of what led to Walt's demise. He wasn't able to put the knockout punch on PSU in recruiting when he had them on the ropes. Instead their local recruiting got stronger after several bad seasons by landing guys like Shipley, Lee, King & Pozlusny. Shipley played basketball in high school and could move. Would have really helped on Wanny's teams.
