If all of the ACC bowl slots are taken, can Pitt pass on playing in a non-ACC bowl? If so they should, two weeks of practices with the current coaching staff would do more harm than good.
I believe San Diego state did this several years ago when they were ranked, they got tabbed for one of the lesser bowls in their conference and they passed on it hoping to get a better bowl outside and ended up not going to a bowlIf all of the ACC bowl slots are taken, can Pitt pass on playing in a non-ACC bowl? Yeah TV $$ drive it but it seems like it’s been a constant refrain for years that when we get passed over by other schools for bowls it’s always because we don’t travel as well as those other schools.I'm saying that selling tickets isn't that big a deal. If it was, they would not have signed a deal with the ACC.
When they make their decision, who sells a couple hundred extra tickets really isn't going to matter.

The bowls as filler for ESPN only really pertains to the pre-Xmas & Dec. 26 games, when you get to bowls like the Gator, Alamo, Citrus and whatever they currently call the Outback Bowl, ticket sales and travel package sales are a huge factor. Even at the next level down the Mayo Bowl's want to sell tickets, that's why you always see a Carolina team playing in it, same with the Texas Bowl in Houston always having a Texas team or LSU in it.I really think this will be less of a factor with the playoffs moving forward. Bowls will exist to supply ESPN programming during the holidays, and they always pull decent ratings. Attendance will become more irrelevant.
