Bowls: Just read an article in the morning Trib that I don't like....

Pederson must have sucked at 'wheeling and dealing' unless he was under the impression Birmingham was a magical place.

I don't get the fuss over bowl destinations. We have the playoffs & Tier nobody gives a damn. Enjoy the extra game.
Just like when I post about Pitt producing better Quality Players for the NFL and can back it up with Links and Facts!

I am also realistic Pitt just like Duke, Wake, NW, Miami, UCLA, Temple, do not have the Fan Student or otherwise to travel to Bowl Games and this is the reason why Pitt often gets Tier Two Bowls than any other.

I have friends at Penn State and WVU that invites me to go to their Bowls for about $1,000 by Bus, no matter where and for 4 Days that includes Rooms, some Meals like Breakfast, Buffets, Tourists sights and Tickets! It is very easy to go and much fun to come together.

Pitt is lucky to have 5,000 go to any Bowl Games, and usually has a Corporate Sponsors but up their Ticket Allotment required by the Bowls.

I don't know but perhaps Barnes is trying to create this kind of start at Pitt making Bowls Drive-able within one day? Penn State Paterno built his Program on Recruiting with one day drives to Penn State, since ut often took 3 to 4 Stop Over to fly to State College?

Yet, until Pitt develops a bigger Fan Base Home and Away Games and Bowl Games and that comes from winning, it is usually going to be given the Tier Two Bowls, and PSU & WVU will usually get the Higher Bowls because they have 15,000+ Fans going in most years.

I don't blame Pitt Fans either, Pitt like Temple, Miami, NW and Smaller Urban Private or Semi-Private Schools only has around 18,700 Students and by no means do they go to the Games let alone the Bowls?

The Bigger Public Universities with 20-40,000+ Students have way more abilities to send more fans to Bowls.

Until Winning changes at Pitt 10+ Games and Pitt develops a Fan Base from multiple years in winning that is fact all Athletic Directors have to deal with just like at Duke, Wake, Miami and others.

It really is
Not according to the way the rules are.

The only way Pitt can drop to a Tier 2 bowl is if Barnes agrees to it. Pitt MUST get a Tier 1 bowl (Pinstripe, Belk, Music City, or Sun) based on ACC standings.... according to ACC's agreements with the bowls.... unless PItt volunteers to accept a Tier 2 designation.

If we go to Annapolis or Detroit, that was all Barnes' doing.

I did not know this, and I appreciate you sharing it on the Lair! I agree, Barnes is rolling some Dice doing this and it reflects weakness not strengths if Pitt ends up with 5-7 or 6-6 Team? Thank You For the Info!

It will not increase Fan Support but bring about same old Pitt undercutting the Football Program like Pederson used to do, and then sit back and wonder why no one is supporting Pitt with he Bad Decisions.

Barnes bragged about setting up a Inner Pitt Fan Advisory Committee, and listening to Pit Coaches unlike Ego Pederson Poison?

If we learn he did not consult either when he should have consulted both, Gallagher needs to pull his shirt back, and said, I did no to Pitt games cheering with Pitt Students and Fans to hear them complain about Decisions you made on your own???? I am not Nordy and you ain't here to piss off fans?

Now if Gallagher, Narduzzi and Fan Committee all went with it, well, if Pitt plays Navy 9-2 I am happy, but if Pitt gets 5-7 and 6-6, they all made a mistake like UPitt 89 pointed out!

St penn still shouldn't be going anywhere, disgusting.
Well, he did win 7 games against losing Programs except SDSU at Home! But when 5-7 Teams are needed to fill up Bowls, unfortunately there is no Toilet Bowl?;):mad::oops:o_O:eek:

American Standard makers of Commodes are located in Piscataway, New Jersey, doubt anyone wants to go there for a Bowl?

Absolutely do not want to ply Navy this year. They are a better option team than Georgia Tec and will likely beat us.. I want 9 wins even if the ninth win comes against the Amherst Lord Jeffs. Just negotiate the best bowl to get the weakest opponent for that ninth win.

can't you idiots get it thru your thick heads?

Pitt does not choose it's bowl destination -- the bowls choose us

Barnes can LOBBY - he cannot choose or dictate

regarding Duke brand -- it is WAY stronger than Pitt brand overall - brands do sell on TV

yes, historically Pitt has better football brand, but in recent years even Duke football it is still stronger than Pitt - Cutcliffe has built Duke into a respectable football school - not even a question about that

How many attended the Fiesta Bowl? Were there many Pitt fans there?

If you remember Utah wanted more tickets than they got in their allotment and Pitt gave something like half of their allotment to Utah to sell because there was no chance at all that Pitt was going to sell them.

Anyone who was there knows there was a woeful turnout of Pitt fans that night.

I was there. Sat next to an older couple who did nothing but whine all night.
Is that a prerequisite for being a Pitt fan?
