Brandin Cummings

Branding Cummmings looked very good tonight in the wpial title game at the Pete. He scored 22, and showed some flashy moves and showed off his really nice handle. He had a great first half picking up for Maleek Thomas who looked human tonight. Brandin had a great game, his only real weakness is he got taken off the dribble a couple times and also was beaten on a couple backdoor cuts. He has shown me alot these last few games, and definitely will be moving up in the recruiting rankings for 2024.
Who do you think has the better first step, out of curiosity.

Thomas. He has elite quickness and speed. That said, Panther fans are going to love Cummings. He took charge for Lincoln Park and dominated the 1st half. One more thing, during warm-ups he dawned a yellow Pitt shirt over top of his Lincoln Park jersey.

BC is a taller, more athletic version of Nelly at the same age. Great job by the staff to get him in the fold.

Think Greg Elliot, but a better all around game.

Really? Pretty hard to compare the game of a guy playing western PA HS hoops to a guy who’s been playing P6 hoops for 4-5 years. For example, does Cummings have a better all around high school game based on his stats than these averages below?

28 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, 1.5 blocks. 52-percent from the floor

Point being, major college basketball is an entirely different and exponentially more difficult game than the highest level of HS hoops. Guys that dominate in an all around way in HS often become one dimensional in college.

Cummings is a shooter, with a pretty shot. That is why I picked Elliot as a reasonable comparison. I can say with certainty that right now, keeping in mind that he has a year of high school to go, that he is a craftier player with a tighter handle than Elliot will ever have. Is he a great defender? Well, no, but he has plenty of time to work on it. As for Cummings rebound total, he is not asked to rebound on defense at LP, he often leaks out early when the opponent shoots, hoping to get down court for some fast break points. Additionally, Cummings has good hops for his size, and can handle contact and still finish.
I am not professing to be a basketball genius, but, if he continues to improve, and I expect he will, he should be counted on for more than just a 3 pt. shot while at Pitt.
