Can someone confirm?

Madness 1. At least 5 players have ask for their releases.
Madness 2. Reports about an investigation involving the coaches.
Madness 3. Yacine Diop is one of the player asking for a release, the leading scorer for WBB.
Madness 4. SMS over recruited, not enough scholarships.

How can 1 be true AND 4 be true?

They are already below the scholarship limit and have a SR, so that would mean to over recruit she has at least 7+ recruits coming in, if 5 are asking to be released. From what I can find, it looks like they only have 3 and they are all PGs, which seems odd.

Supposely before the request for the releases, SMS over recruited.

That happens at a lot of places. Football more so than basketball, but it's not all that unusual in basketball.

Part of the problem is that when she recruited last fall she most likely expected that Aysia Bugg was going to play this year. She was originally supposed to be back before conference play started. So theoretically after Bugg didn't play that would be one more player than they would have been planning for.

However I believe that with three recruits signed that still would have put them one over the limit. My guess is that they do not expect Tania Lamb to ever play again. She's now missed essentially two full seasons. So I would guess the plan is that the three recruits would have replaced Bugg, Lamb and the empty spot. As far as I know they do not currently have any spring verbals, although I would have thought they would have still been recruiting, what with the obvious needs on the team.

Sorry Joe, Aysia was not ready (physically) to come back and play during ACC. Not only did she discuss her plans to redshirt and rehab with Ann, it was discussed with the coaching staff, early on, before the commits. To be truthful, their goal was to force Aysia out.

Please inform us of the ongoing investigation of the coaching staff.

I don't know why she would want to force Bugg out, seeing as to how she is one of only two players on the team that is even a decent ball handler. And mind you I'm not saying that she didn't or isn't trying to, I'm saying that doesn't make any sense. Although maybe that would explain recruiting three guards for a team that is desperate for a couple good bigs.

Nothing SMS do makes sense. According to the original poster 5 players have asked for their release. One of them being Yacine Diop. That speaks volumes. SMS seems to be angry all the time and distant from her players. A few players who've transferred made mention she was verbally abusive to all the players and a racist. Just ask Shay Colley her reason for transferring. In order for a team to be successful they need a coach who's willing to have a strong, positive coach-athlete relationship. That will help the players growth and the teams performance. SMS is not that coach.

It's time for Heather to bring in a new coaching staff who's willing to do what it takes to build this program.

FWIW, there is a tweet linked to the PG web site that says that Bugg will graduate this semester and has secured her release to grad transfer elsewhere. I would imagine that's what Diop is doing as well, since she already has four years of school in.

That's the problem with being a conference bottom feeder with decent players who have graduated with eligibility left. I'm sure both of them will find a better program somewhere else that would be happy to have them for one season.

Again, please enlighten us on the ongoing investigation of the coaching staff.

Why don't you save us all the trouble and enlighten us? I do not know any details of any ongoing investigation. You keep implying that you know something, but for whatever reason you refuse to say what it is that you think you know.

I told you what I knew about the two players that received their release. I was asking about the investigation because the original poster made mention. For some reason I thought you would know since you seem to have the inside info.

Well then I apologize because I misunderstood what you were getting at.

I do have some inside sources, but one of the sources that I used to have is no longer close to the situation. I have have not heard anything from the other good source and I don't feel it's my place to ask. If they have something they want to share that's great, but I don't generally ask.

Yet here you are, posting in a thread about it.

I love when people post about no one caring about the topic they have actively clicked on to read and feel compelled to post in.
I don’t think your logic adds up completely. If a person was posting repeatedly about it yes, but one post is just a comment. One that is, in spirit, correct.

While surely some people care, virtually no one cares.

Any more information on Madness 2?
Also the over-recruiting - as I am sure many have noted - is nothing new. Coaches on the men's side do it ALL THE TIME. Jamie was the king of that technique. Women have more scholarships (which is a joke only from the standpoint that its not way that # will ever see floor)

She scowls constantly. I think she is a pefectionist. Problem is that she is far from perfect.

SMS played under Renee Portland at PSU, a coach whose time at that university ended because of her bigotry and anger. I don't know if the accusations leveled in this thread are legitimate but it wouldn't surprise me if she has some of her former mentor in her.

Portland reportedly wouldn't have Lesbians on her teams. Never read about anger issues.

SMS has been successful when she had talent to coach. Possibly she is very angry and frustrated by the performance of her teams because they lack the overall talent to play to her expectations. But, the underlying problem has been an inability to recruit at the ACC level, IMO. I would guess (but I really don't know) all other problems likely stem from that failure.

Her job is to recruit talent and keep it. What little talent she gets, she loses.

The depth of the investigation wasn't really given, but I was told the investigations is because SMS is apparently mistreating some players. I guess what ever it is, it's enough that warrants an investigation (the source is a third party - that knows one of the former player club coach). Just like JTP, I didn't ask, just was told in a conversation. I can only imagine how Heather Lyke feels about the fate of the men and women program.

Well, I hope she's searching for a WBB coach at the same time she has the search firm seeking out a MBB coach.

This is a posting board for posting things they wanna post and it just turned out the poster posted he didn’t care about WBB.

ADHL should have one thing and one thing only on her mind , her plate , in front of EVERYBODY who works for her.

And it ain’t the WBB program

I hope she isn't spending a single second of her time on women's basketball right now. Until a men's coach is signed, sealed, and delivered, there shouldn't be anything else on the docket.

Sure, if you employ undefined vague terms like "virtually," anything you say can be accurate. I got news for you, in the grand scheme of things, virtually no one cares about anything to do with Pitt.

Enough people care that there are regular posts on these board. At their peak, the Pitt women averaged over 4K per game over their 14 game schedule...for a program that had no history of success leading up to that. That's way better than any other Pitt sport other than football or men's basketball.

So LYKE shouldn't worry about the player being mistreated? Really, is this what the world is coming to. Keep the abuser aboard until the MBB's search is completed!!!

Lol you know what happened so save Lyke the time and phone it in..

They can set up a hot line and have some students involved.

Until we have a Basketball program again with coaches and players , which we don’t , I don’t give a flip about the women right now.

You stated that already.

Do we really think that ADHL is, or should be, spending seven hours a day sleeping and the other 17 hours working on the men's basketball hire?

Days are long, and people, at least some of them, do have the ability to work on more than one thing during the course of the day.

Correct. If an investigation is on going then t they should let that happen and deal with it after that.

I agree, but the vast majority of the time should be spent where it really matters. The men's search will involve lots and lots of factors outside of just interviewing. It isn't like she is a one woman operation, but her focus should be on men's basketball and her support staff on the far, far less important issues like the OP.

For fans like you, Pitt MBB going to takes years to get back to the Big East days! #TitleIX

Wat? I'm completely aware of Title IX. It is awful. It has nothing to do with whether Lyke should spend her time on the women's basketball program right now.

I mean, you clearly have an agenda and slanted information and that's your prerogative. It just isn't going to be in line with 95% of the fans. Most Pitt fans couldn't even name the women's coach or a single player. It is what it is. It shouldn't make you mad.

Lol
That poster has to be joking.....

We don’t have a coach and as of now no team....
The women aren't playing aren't practicing so their feeeeeeeelings aren’t being hurt.

Deal with the girlies if we must after real business is finished, that is getting back a Basketball Program.

Clearly, every poster has an agenda, (whether it is to inform, to inquire, or even to negate) or else they wouldn't post! So your point? In the end AD Lyke is going to do what she wants. Regardless of my post or your comment. So again, as it has been mentioned before, if your concern is not the WBB, why spend the time to come out on a post that is Clearly titled as a WBB posting?!
