Breaking News - Stiller Game Postponed

None of my jobs were/are in retail. Other than one casino job where you work all holidays the others have been in construction and manufacturing. Maybe it’s different out here but other than people with school or government jobs I don’t know anyone that gets off for MLK day.

I get the day off and I work for a manufacturer!

Of course the only reason we get it off is because the holding company that bought us back about six or seven years ago mandated that all of the companies that they own give their employees the day off. The people running the company on a day to day basis would have never, ever given us the day off if they weren't ordered to.

My comments have nothing to do with MLK day or my employer. Just I have great freedom in working from home, I can basically take the afternoon off without having to take it off.

Do more employers provide MLK Day as a day off as opposed to President's Day? I get MLK Day off (so two holidays in January along with New Years Day), but not Presidents Day so none in February.

Assume you’ve been retired for awhile ?

Its a national holiday
UPMC employees who aren’t mission critical to patient care are off
AHN was the same
Are you really that disconnected from the rest of the world?
Let’s see, hospital workers everyone from doctors to nurses to every other person in a hospital may be working. Veterinarians, technicians and receptionist in most animal clinics will be working. Almost EVERY retail worker in America may be working. A high percentage of non union plumbers, repair technicians, carpenters may be working. Police will be working. That was just off the top of my head. There are many more.
I grew up in the eastern suburbs and had a teacher in high school that one time said to us “Some of you think the sun rises over Irwin and sets over the Edgar Thompson works.” It kind of puts me in mind off Souf.

I work on MLK, but my wife does not. Last job I was off.

Also, many colleges and universities are open and have classes on MLK. My college student has class tomorrow.

THAT is an outstanding line. I grew up on a hill overlooking ET With a view of the Steel Building in the distance. My world was directed westward along the Mon Valley mills. Anything east of Turtle Creek might as well have been in New Jersey.

Now there’s a possibility that this game gets pushed to Tuesday. Once again, the Steelers get screwed over by ‘The Shield…’ the forecast has NOT changed since last week. They knew this was coming and had ample time to move this game to a neutral site as was speculated. It’s not the Bills’ or Buffalo’s fault because you can’t control Mother Nature; this falls on the league.

Buffalo earned their home playoff should not be moved. Flip the script Pittsburgh has a home playoff game and the NFL wants to move it to DC for weather conditions. Heads would explode in Pittsburgh.

Of course heads would explode because it’s not fair, but it is what it is. I’d rather play a neutral site game on a Sunday than a home game on Tuesday, Wednesday, or whenever this game gets pushed back to because if you win, you’re at a significant disadvantage for the next round. The league had several options at this disposal and, IMO, sitting on their hands was the worst one.

This game isn’t being played tomorrow or Tuesday in Buffalo, besides the roads and stadium being snowed in, the field at Bills stadium doesn’t have a heater underneath like most cold weather teams have, so they need it warm up naturally so the players bones don’t shatter when tackled like Mahomes helmet last night.

The NFL needs to say too bad Buffalo and move the game to Tuesday night in Detroit then move the Divisional round game the winner plays in to next Monday night and if need be the AFC Championship Game to the following Monday.

That’s what I’m thinking as well re: scheduling. It’s definitely unfair to Buffalo but now it’s unfair to the Steelers and the Bills.

I think what will happen is if the steelers win they will play in Baltimore on Sunday. (CBS already reported this). If the bills win it wouldn't surprise me if the nfl doesn't play the chiefs bills Monday night since the chiefs will be on 2 days extra rest and the bills would be on a one day shorter week. Obviously I could be wrong but I think the nfl would absolutely love to add a 3rd primetime game for next week.

NY Gov says travel ban still in effect for Orchard Park. They’re getting 4-6in per hour right now…

How can the NY governor say that? The NFL can still move the game if they want. She can say they will lift the travel restrictions. But what happens to the game is up to the NFL.
The NFL should say the same now. The game will not move. It will be played now as scheduled or the Steelers win by forfeit.

Come on. There will be no forfeit.
Of course there won't. But the NY governor is acting outside of their jurisdiction. They can lift or continue with travel restrictions and state of emergency. But when the game happens has other factors. What if the Steelers can't get there? Or the refs? The league ultimately makes that call and the guv's restrictions are a part of that, but not all of it.

Steelers arrived hours ago

Well I had it off at UNC and Duke as well
When I had jobs that weren’t direct patient care
Cheers

The NFL had jurisdiction in matters like this once upon a time. Then it cancelled a Philadelphia Eagle game. And the Governor of Pennsylvania called them wussies. The NFL now defers to local government!

Buffalo Airport has snowmobiles. They are at their hotel now. Getting to the stadium will occur for the players just fine.
They took snowmobiles? That's better than Bubby Brister's truck.
Fans can use sled dogs. Play the damn game today!

The NFL can still cancel games. They cancelled the game when Hamlin was injured. They moved another game to a neutral site a year or two ago. The NFL can do what it wants with its games.

LOL.......so welcome to Buffalo. They are going to play today. Have to. Another Winter Storm is scheduled to drop another 2 feet on the area tomorrow.

Anybody's work tell them they can leave a little early to catch the game today? We've gotten nothing like that here, and I'm pretty heated about it.

I meant that in as sincere a way as possible. It's a nice place to be.

I'm sure I could leave if I asked, and I'm sure I could also just up and leave without saying anything and I'd never hear a word about it. It's just the principle of the matter that pisses me off. Like, on a day when most office workers have off anyway, you can't even tell us we can leave an hour early? If they can't do that, I don't even want to leave. Just completely tone deaf time and time again.

I get it. Can't disagree at all. I don't know where they find these people that live to work but unfortunately they end up as management.
