Brian kelly gone from Notre Dame

yeah I think PN is a big year away from a job like ND. 16-9 is a good start to college coaching career but ND is going to want someone who has won more.

That's all ND needs to do is hire another whack job.

They are a mess

Yeah I was kind of kidding with that one, Les wouldn't be a great fit there.

The one thing in his favor is he's by far the biggest name available, and I doubt any of the currently employed "star" coaches would be in any rush to go to South Bend right now.

Maybe they take a look at Fleck?

Maybe ND can hire the driver who killed the family in North Versailles on Thanksgiving.

I got it .....lol

How can ND be so bad. They miss on coaching hires like Pitt and they have every advantage , resource and whatever needed to be sustainable

I can't figure it.

I'm thinking about it the other way....if I'm a coach why do I go to ND aside from the money? Its become a coaching graveyard since Holtz left and if a coach of Kelly's stature can fail there, anyone can. I don't think Narduzzi would be interested in that job if he can get a decent raise for himself and his assistants here.

Wait...what was Kelly's "stature"? Central Michigan and Cincinnati? Eh...he was a flavor of the month. And his problems at ND have been self inflicted.

I'm amazed that ND continues to go for that type of coach, instead of really proven big time coaches. You know who also fits that mold? James Franklin. And that's who I'm hearing the ND big wigs want to flirt with.

Kelly was the Tom Herman type hire when he went to ND....seen as just about a sure thing. I agree he's dug his own grave but he was the top hire that year.

I get it. My point is...if you are Notre Freakin Dame, aren't you capable of landing a bigger fish than the latest "hot" name?

What "proven big time coach" is going to leave his big time job to go to ND? This reminds me of the folks who thought that "proven big time coaches" would be tripping all over themselves to come coach the Pitt basketball team. If ND wants a big name, they need to hire a recently fired NFL guy. It worked very well for USC with Carroll, and Bama with Saban. Marvin Lewis will soon be available.

Kelly hasn't been a failure like the string of guys before him, but his personality is so toxic, he's going to have a short shelf life anywhere he goes.
The fact that two power programs like Texas and LSU were fighting over Herman, tells you how hard it is to land an elite coach. Houston's a better program than Cincy, as they've had some very good runs over the last 50 years, but they're hardly elite. ND is not stealing a coach from one of the blue bloods. It ain't 1970 anymore.

excellent post.......

They would be wise to get David Shaw.

He's shown the ability to win at a university with the restrictions similar to Notre Dame.

He has experience recruiting nationally and plays a style that will fit with some advantages notre Dame has.

I think he would be the best hire. Plus you take off a rival.

You didn't just compare Pitt basketball to Notre Dame football, did you? C'mon.

Be honest...Notre Dame carries enough sway to recruit anyone, anywhere in the country. That name opens every door. They have their own freaking television network for goodness sake. AND...elite academics to boot.

IF Notre Dame wants to spend the money, they can sell a unique package to a premier football coach. But, they don't seem to know how to get out of their own way administratively.

he wouldn't leave his current job for nd. for many years in a row, he has had many many job offers thrown his way. declined every one of them. he is very happy at his current spot and for him, its a very good fit. not to mention, he's coaching in his home state.

Who is saying he has been off

Chip Kelly will be available after the NFL season and probably looking to get back into the college game.

forget to mention in my previous post, what job out there that is open is a realistic option for kelly?

Didn't they just play in the National Champ game a few years back with Kelly?

yes and to part with him would be dumb beyond compare. But after that display by their player stepping on someone while down, the academic scandal, etc, it wouldn't totally surprise me if they made a move. But all that noise means crap and it is still all about the W's at ND and Kelly offers them the best chance to keep delivering that.

Baylor couldn't hire him.

North Carolina if fedora leaves?

Oregon probably a good fit

I think an NFL Job possibly.

I suppose it depends on how you define what constitutes a premier coach. James Franklin's seat seemed warm as recently as late September. Penn State having a nice couple months doesn't qualify him as a premier coach. Maybe someday he'll earn that distinction. But, the jury is still out.

With that noted, exactly what proven premier coach at a blueblood program do you realistically believe would consider leaving where they are to go to Notre Dame?

The only one I can even conceive of making that move is Bob Stoops. That would in part depend on how tired he is of unrealistic Oklahoma fans.

Narduzzis number on speed dial.....

Double his salary then. ND is a coaches graveyard. If he succeeds at Pitt, he can stay 20 years. PAY HIM, so he does.

And no, I'm not donating money, and never attending more than 1-2 games per year, just saying whatever the hell I feel like!

I'm just a rabid Pitt TV FAN, just watch for personal entertainment, not an active participant, other than the game or 2 I go to every year, still I'll say ANYTHING I WANT.
