Brock Osweiler to Browns

Saw somewhere Browns not keeping Osweiler, kind of an NBA version of sign and trade

There should have been red flags on Osweiler when that video surfaced of him leaving a pizza joint in Scottsdale and some crew tried for autographs and photos and some lame punk pushed Osweiler in the back and Brock and his two female friends just took off running to an SUV.

That or Osweiler having no shoulders and looking extremely gangly in a rough-ass sport.

or he could have been drummed out of the league and facing felony charges after knocking him out cold....what is it they say about discretion in regards to valor?

Please, standing up for yourself doesn't equate to having to knock someone out cold. He's soft and gangly, i.e., he stinks.

yep, he could have gone with the punch to the shoulder....he may suck football wise but he made the right call here.

No. Savage will be Romo's new #2. He will not be the new #1 until Romo is hurt in week 2 or 3.

Then Savage gets hurt in week 5 and they start Brandon Weeden for the rest of the season.

If I'm the Texans I sign Romo and draft Peterman. Savage is not starter material and they will need to start grooming Romo's replacement immediately given his fragility. If I'm Peterman I'm hoping for that scenario over backing up Glennon in Chicago.

Savage is not starter material...but apparently, Peterman is? Not sure the Texans strategy at this point is to go with a bevy of borderline Pitt grad transfer QBs to build their franchise upon. Odd business model

The Cowboys announced yesterday they will wrongfully trade Romo instead of releasing him. Houston appears to be the likely destination. It would be crazy if O'Brien wins nine games for a fourth consecutive season with another new batch of quarterbacks.

He could very well be. He's a good bit more suited to be an NFL QB than Savage. I like Savage but he has been very prone to injury, though he was OK when he played last year. Peterman makes sense for a team looking for a starter 2-3 years down the road.

I think best case for Nate is to be a quality number 2. He's good but I don't think he's "franchise QB" good or even second tier starter good. Just my uninformed opinion.

Yeah, the Browns basically bought a draft pick for $16 million dollars.

Makes AB's contact look pretty affordable.

Not only that........but they bought a draft pick that will be picked by........the Browns. You know, the same team that drafted Johnny Manziel, Brady Quinn and Brandon Weeden with the 22nd pick in the first rd. The same team who drafted Justin Gilbert, Barkavious Mingo, Braylen Edwards and Trent Richardson in the top 10. The same team that selected Kellen Winslow ahead of Ben Roethlisberger. I know, new regime. But those picks spanned multiple regimes. So.....count me impressed when the Browns can figure out what they are doing, and you still have to have a QB which they don't have.

This is part of the Analysis of Nate from the official NFL Draft Combine website:
Sources Tell Us
"I like him. He made me a believer when I watched him against Clemson. I do want to see him throw live and get a feel for how the ball comes out. I never saw him in person and you can't get a feel for that stuff on tape." - NFC Director of Personnel

Bottom Line
Peterman's experience in a pro-style passing attack gives him a head start headed into the league. His physical attributes are just average, but his accuracy, composure and anticipation are what sets him apart from some of the more physically gifted quarterbacks in this year's draft. Peterman's tape is sure to catch the eye of at least a few teams in need of a quarterback and he should come off the board by day two with a chance to become a solid starting quarterback in the future.

They would have had to pay out salary dollars anyway and they may be able to eat some of that money and get another late round pick from someone. I wouldn't even be shocked to see him included back to the Patriots in a Garapolo deal with the Browns eating a large portion of that salary.

Great deal by the Browns, IMO.

He's a good bit more suited to be an NFL QB than Savage.........why is that? Being shorter with a weaker arm? I'll admit the hot wives are kind of a wash in the comparison though.

Whatever the Browns should do - they will do the opposite. It's the Browns.

Personally, this is the best trade I've seen in a while. To the people saying they bought a 2nd Round pick for $16 million: they are still $67.5 under and his contract isn't guaranteed after this year so they can just dump him if they can't flip him for a draft pick (and they've already gotten phone calls.)

Watch out, but the Browns are doing something. Really nice trades and have 22 draft picks over the next 2 years. Love the 21st century NFL analytic trades. The DePodesta Moneyball group knows what they're doing.

If I had a nickel for every time I read that...

They're trying to play moneyball with football. Call me skeptical but making moves to bring Kenny Britt in to lowball or eventually jettison TP looks good on paper but doesn't make sense from the football side.
I think moneyball is going to sneak into it eventually the same way it did in baseball and basketball. The old guard on NFL Countdown had no idea what they were talking about, they didn't even know what they really traded for in the beginning. I see it as a low risk, high reward deal. Then again, it's the Browns so we'll see what happens.

I really don't understand why. He's not great, but probably the best qb to actually be on a browns roster since they got the new team in '99. Maybe a couple of the flash in the pan guys like Kelly Holcomb or Derek Anderson, other than that complete garbage at the qb position for more than 15 years.

Mobility has a lot to do with it. Peterman isn't Watson but he has the escapability need to survive in the NFL. I like Savage a lot but he is limited by his ability to stay healthy, largely due to his inability to avoid hits. Hopefully he can avoid repeat concussions and stay in the league for a long time.

As for size and arm strength, Peterman is pretty average for NFL QBs.
